What do I want for supper from Lidl?

To make a change from the โ€œwhat shall I get from Waitrose?โ€ threads ๐Ÿ˜

DS has a friend over tomorrow and DH is away. What easy supper should I get for myself from Lidl?

They do some cheese in a ceramic dish that you bake and it comes out all gooey and it's amazing, plus you get a useful dish ๐Ÿ˜„ have it with crusty bread and a bag of salad.

Overthebow · 06/02/2025 09:41

If I have supper I usually have a cheese and cracker plate. Lidl have some good cheeses some of those, a nice cracker selection and some chutney. Have something light for dinner first so you arenโ€™t too full for it.

wholettheturnipsburn · 06/02/2025 10:02

How can you sleep properly after so much cheese

I'm not sure they do that all the time as I haven't spotted it in our local one recently.

I think it may have been one of their Christmas specials...

I can't remember if it is LIDL or Aldi that do a nice chilled paella that cooks in the microwave. You can bulk it out a bit by adding in a separate bag of microwave rice, and accompany with slices of baguette.

P00hsticks · 06/02/2025 10:17

sorry - the paella suggestion might be a bit much for one - I mis-read your post as that you were going to be feeding son & friend as well...

MinnieMountain · 06/02/2025 10:52

Ohh, I love the sound of the melted cheese thing if theyโ€™re still doing it. My sleep is crap anyway ๐Ÿ˜

DS and his friend are making pizza for their supper.

And this is where regional differences in what we call things show- I call my main evening meal supper.

We picked up one of these cheese things yesterday, with a part baked roll and some red pepper, cucumber and mini salamis for dipping. They are DH and I Friday night treat - we have acquired 6 of the dishes since Xmas hah, they make perfect individual cheesecake pots!

Sushi!

Comedycook · 06/02/2025 11:11

There's a salmon en croute in the freezer section which is nice...I'd serve with me potatoes and a green veg

Comedycook · 06/02/2025 11:13

Oh I misread...I thought you were having friends over. Salmon en croute is pretty big for one!

Just for me I'd buy loads of charcuterie, cheeses and bread from the bakery

P00hsticks · 06/02/2025 11:13

Yes, just looked and they have the cheese bakes in as part of the Valentines day range

I didn't like that at all, it's made from reformed salmon and it's a weird texture

ssd · 06/02/2025 11:19

Its weird you all want a bit of cheese and bread for your dinners Grin

MinnieMountain · 06/02/2025 11:25

Not if youโ€™re the one whoโ€™d normally be doing the cooking on a Friday @ssd .

If I want a quick dinner for myself I like their filled pasta and the tubs of sauce they do. They've got a few types so I change it up each time depending on how I feel.

I do agree with just getting cheeses though. DH and I absolutely demolished a garlic and herb goats cheese I picked up in there last week.

I stand corrected

(My go to is scrambled eggs and toast Smile)

chelseahealyslips · 06/02/2025 11:33

I would pick cheese over my own children so I agree with the little cheese bake dishes and naice bread from the bakery section.

I would not actually pick cheese over my own children before anyone starts.

SueGraysHat · 06/02/2025 11:36

Filled pasta, one of the fresh ones.

Or scour the freezer section for one off international food things. They had some nice Greek meatballs and pastry bits in last time I was there.

SueGraysHat · 06/02/2025 11:38

Or if you're feeling that way inclined: bockwurst or bratwurst, baguette from the bakery, all the salads, pickles and sauces...

Sorry I thought you meant a small meal after your main dinner! I still think cheese though, thatโ€™s what Iโ€™d get if I had free choice of dinner just for me, along with some nice charcuterie meats to go with it.

berksandbeyond · 06/02/2025 11:42

Fresh baguette from the bakery and pate would be my go to. With some good crisps and a nice tart sliced apple on the side for health

Hoppinggreen · 06/02/2025 11:45

By Supper do you mean your main meal?
Supper here is a snack before bed

Ellopal · 06/02/2025 11:45

They do nice small pizzas in their deluxe range too! (but Iโ€™m also actually voting for cheese bake and some nice bread from the bakery)

Gloaminggnome · 06/02/2025 11:55

The deluxe mac and cheese with pancetta is lush, says serves 2 but I could definitely finish one alone...

RitaFromTheRanch · 06/02/2025 12:02

DH bought home a whole frozen octopus recently. That was pretty tasty.
