Here it is folks, let’s carry on keeping it dry.

Are we there yet?
Nearly… there is a little pinprick of light at the end of the tunnel.

We can do this! 💪💪

Feeling very low after aforementioned bad day at work. Desperate for a drink but refuse to cave now.

Hold on for the boost in the morning. We’re so nearly there- you have done amazingly 💪

HollyGolightly4 · 31/01/2025 20:49

Addictforanex · 31/01/2025 20:06

Did you not get one of these?

No, I didn't!! Maybe I'll get it tomorrow morning, because it didn't believe I'd do the full Friday sober! 🤣

Addictforanex · 31/01/2025 21:08

@HollyGolightly4 hmmm did you sign up for the Dry Jan challenge on the app? Maybe you can do so now if not.

Hold on for the boost in the morning. We’re so nearly there- you have done amazingly 💪

Thanks @AlertCat. I’m now safely tucked up in bed and have ticked off Jan 31st in my app, so I’ve officially completed DJ! Thanks to everyone on this thread for keeping me going through the month - it’s been a real struggle at times and I could not have done it without you. And a big well done to everyone for getting to the end. Am proud of all of us! Here’s to damp Feb!

MabelsBeats · 31/01/2025 21:21

Congratulations everyone, we did it!

So happy to be at the end of January, it’s been a tough month. Really pleased to have got to the 31st AF.

pollyannaperspective · 31/01/2025 21:22

End of the last day of January - well done all for the dry days, the hard days and the insights.
Thanks OP for running the DJ thread. See you next year I hope.

lurknolinger · 31/01/2025 21:28

Really please to have completed this, well done everyone!!
Even those that had minor blips along the way will have still drunk a lot less than normal.

Thanks to everyone on the thread, it really helped me stay on track.

I'll be looking out for the damp February thread too, as I want to make sure I don't naturally gravitate back to my old habits.

Addictforanex · 31/01/2025 21:33

Well done everyone! Was a real help to have the thread

So pleased I did it, so pleased it is over! See some of you on a Damp Feb thread.

MistletoeAndWine123 · 31/01/2025 21:37

Congrats and thank you to everyone! We've all done so well 👏

Still haven't decided what I will do now in terms of drinking. I'm also like some PPs and a little apprehensive about having a drink, I'm adamant I will not be falling back into the same unhealthy patterns.

Please do post a link to a Damp Feb thread here if someone does start one, don't want to miss it as I've really benefitted from the support and sharing of experiences on here x

Nite nite all and well done again x

lacksomjam · 31/01/2025 22:13

Well done all 😎

I’m not sure what I will do alcohol wise Feb and onwards, but I do know I’ve felt more benefit from this dry jan than previous ones and I need far more AF days in 2025 than i had in 2024 (or pretty much any of the previous 30 years).

I may see some of you on a damp feb thread.

TheYeaSayer · 31/01/2025 22:40

Phew, can’t hardly believe it!
Well done to all of you, especially those of you who were particularly heavy drinkers. It’s not easy.
Please check in in the morning to claim your gold medal and tell us your closing DJ2025 thoughts!

I was planning to stay dry until the end of the month, but DH has already put a nice bottle of Crémant d’Alsace in the fridge for tomorrow. Bastard!

For tonight, though, it only remains for me, and my alter ego @HPLikecraft to announce that at the end of today, we will be…

100%

of the way through DJ2025!!

You're amazing!

Well done everyone who has completed Dry January, and also to those who have cut right down even with a blip or two! Hope you all feel more positive about being in control of your drinking ☺️ As I didn't start until 6 January, I am going to stick with it until I stumble over my personal finishing line next Friday. However, I'm so pleased to have got to 25 days... tonight I barely gave a thought to having an end of week drink - unheard of in recent years for me and the husband not to. Maybe my neurones are resetting. My big eye opener has definitely been seeing for myself that 99% of my drinking is complete habit and that it hasn't been so bad to just.... not.

Fordian · 31/01/2025 23:38

Do we want a Damp Feb thread?

I'll start one if at least 3 other people say they do! I don't want to be Billy No Mates on it!

If I get three responses tomorrow, I'll start one, and link, but you must promise to post on it! 😳😬🤣

If a far more 'known name' does, I'm 100% happy to abandon mine in favour of them! It's not an ego trip for me, just an ongoing forum about where we're at!

HollyGolightly4 · 01/02/2025 01:16

Yes please @Fordian ! Will help keep me accountable.

I had signed up @Addictforanex, it says completed! I did find a badge though when I went digging 🤣

Congratulations, everyone!

Eatinpeachesonthebeaches · 01/02/2025 02:40

Count me in too.

IGuessIllbetheFirst · 01/02/2025 06:44

Really happy to have made it and also a bit suprised that I actually did - this thread and reading everyone’s updates was hugely helpful during the difficult times when I would usually reach out for a glass of wine.

One big change is that I’m sleeping so much better and enjoying waking up early without that groggy red wine headache and enjoying a coffee as the sun rises. New days with plenty of possibilities.

Thanks everyone for sharing!

I am up for a Damp Feb thread @Fordian, so you have your minimum 3 already!

AlertCat · 01/02/2025 07:12

@Fordian yes please!

@TheYeaSayer thanks for the guidance and encouragement all through the month!

I’m pleased not to have missed wine- I think it’s wine which pushes up my alcohol consumption because as previously mentioned, once the bottle is opened you’re kind of committed to drinking the whole thing, whether it’s over one, two, or three nights (I am the only wine drinker in our home). I’m still not sure if I’ll have a whisky later- maybe right before bedtime I will. Busy day to think about it first though!

well done everyone and see you in Damp February! Xx

Nothungrycat · 01/02/2025 07:51

Well done everyone! Enjoying a Saturday morning without that fuzzy headed feeling is something I really want to retain. Many thanks to @TheYeaSayer and yes, please, @Fordian - I'd like to join the damp February thread. I'm out to dinner tonight, so will have a drink or two, but I'm planning to match my consumption to one of the people there who can't drink much because of the medication he's on, and also drink a hell of a lot of water!

SparklyNewMe · 01/02/2025 08:26

Yes please to Damp Feb!

newme2025 · 01/02/2025 08:55

I would also join a damp Feb thread @Fordian ! Thank you.

1st Feb everyone - HURRAH!

Castlerigg · 01/02/2025 09:07

@SandrenaIsMyBloodType That sounds like an absolutely lovely day!

I almost weakened last night, but ended up being busy with one thing and another, and by the time I sat down I wasn't bothered. Maybe there's something in that... keep busy !

Elderflower cordial made up with tonic water has been a game changer though. Hit the spot better than the Nozecco or the CBD drinks - although I still haven't tried the Kylie AF one that's in the cupboard.

I'm in for Damp Feb!

LindorDoubleChoc · 01/02/2025 09:15

Yep, sign me up for damp February please @Fordian Grin.

Well done to everyone who has completed Dry Jan or nearly completed it, especially those of us who found it a bit of a struggle at times.

I would humbly suggest (BUT PLEASE FEEL FREE TO IGNORE I AM NOT FOISTING MY VIEWS ON ANYONE) that anyone going for damp Feb has one easy "say out loud" rule to stick to - ime in the field of ambitions and goals, being a bit vague doesn't really help, you need to be able to say what you want in few words but be specific. So "I will drink a lot less in February" is not as helpful as "I will not drink Monday to Thursday in February" (or whatever) because that rule for yourself is just as clear as "I will not drink at all in January". It's why I quite like the idea of the Melvyn Bragg method.

^^ like I said, just an opinion but it may be of use to some.

Fordian · 01/02/2025 09:20

Damp Feb thread:

Damp Feb! For DJ survivors and Feb drink moderation fans! www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/5265391-damp-feb-for-dj-survivors-and-feb-drink-moderation-fans

Hope this link works! See you there!

SwiftyFifty · 01/02/2025 09:20

Well done to all who did the whole month. You must be so proud of yourselves!!
I started strong but failed dry Jan however I have logged my dry days (23) which is still a win but I don't have that sense of satisfaction that I would have if I did the month.
Onwards and upwards Damp Feb it is and my goal is to have as many or more dry days. As Feb is a shorter month this will mean I ll have done better than January.
Need to lose weight actually put ion weight last month so I'm hoping to be good this month.
Looking forward to hearing from you all re this months challenge

BurntBroccoli · 01/02/2025 11:34

Still another 4 days for me before I've done a whole month but I'm thinking of continuing a dry February too or perhaps 'damp' @Fordian (so will check out your thread 😊).

Well done everyone!
