What trivial things get on your nerves?

Sentences that end with xxxx, right? xxxx, no? xxxx, yes? It not only looks wrong (maybe I should be on Pedant's Corner!) but it tells you you cannot disagree.

People who post on social media ‘the one who…’. A girl I work with always posts on birthday/anniversaries etc the one who made me a mum, the one who made me a wife, the one who made me a boy mum. Why??? Infuriates me 🤣

Yes! And children's birthdays - "three whole years of you" and "this one though" aarrgghh!! What does that last one even mean?!

Any of the insipid, valid self obsessed twattery on social media. Can you tell my pet peeve😂

Andtheworldwentwhite · 17/01/2025 09:49

I’m 49 and menopausal….. so most thing. Today was my husband breathing

FarFarFarAwayOneDay · 17/01/2025 09:54

People starting every sentence with ‘so’. Of course, sometimes it is appropriate, and used properly as a conjunction, but a lot of people just use it ALL THE TIME!

People saying ‘like’ multiple times, in every sentence, (mostly young people I’ve found).

My husband coughing all the time! He did have a cough a few weeks ago, but now it seems to have turned into a habit and he does a little cough constantly. It’s seriously getting on my nerves now…

marshmallowfinder · 17/01/2025 09:56

Inanimate objects falling off something or falling over. Instant RAGE.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 17/01/2025 09:58

I know it’s everywhere now, but anyone pronouncing research/researching as REsearch, REsearching. I want to yell at the telly every time the ad for cancer REsearch comes on.

ImWearingPantaloons · 17/01/2025 09:59

Overly loud performative sneezing

Grannyinnwaiting · 17/01/2025 10:03

People saying obviously as sentence fillers when the statement contains no element of obviousness

DaisyChain505 · 17/01/2025 10:03

People who stand right next to the baggage carousel at the airport. WHYYYY?!

If everyone took a few steps back, everyone would be able to see the carousel and then could step forward when needed rather than those selfish people who stand right next to it meaning everyone else can’t see.

hamstersarse · 17/01/2025 10:05

Packaging. All of it. All the stupid layers. The stupid hard plastic stuff you can barely cut. Unnecessary zip ties. Ott taping. Multiple unnecessary layers. Giant boxes for tiny things.

GenerousGardener · 17/01/2025 10:08

Being the only one that knows how to change the loo roll when it’s empty. Grrrrrr…..

LeavesOnTrees · 17/01/2025 10:08

Totally agree with the baggage carousel, your bag will come when it comes.

Also when the plane arrives at terminal and you have to wait for the stairs or corridor to be attached and the doors to open before anyone can get off, so a good 5 mins and people start getting up getting their bags down.
This doesn't bother me, but it's when you have an aisle seat and the two next to you start trying to get you out of their way to get their bag but you are literally stuck.

BitOutOfPractice · 17/01/2025 10:09

I came on to say “coathangers” but now realise it’s not that sort of thread.

SisterMaryImmaculate · 17/01/2025 10:09

My DP has bunged up ears after a cold and he’s started saying ‘say again’ rather than ‘pardon’. It’s driving me round the bend.

Whylurkwhenicanjoinin · 17/01/2025 10:10

Car drivers in front of me who stop at a junction and leave a car's length between them and the double white lines, just move up!!!

People who stop right at the top/bottom of stairs, or right by a door, in a train station/airport etc to fiddle with the suitcase handle.

Yes, yes, yes, yes, YES! I say this all the time and feel like a lone voice. It's pronounced bloody reSEARCH in the UK. Even supposedly educated people on Radio 4 say it incorrectly. I just switch the fuckers off.

My in-laws doing performance grandparenting.

Pumpkincozynights · 17/01/2025 10:21

Another social media one. People who post cryptic messages such as: Well another person I can’t trust. Or life is so hard. Then don’t elaborate despite endless replies of ‘You ok hun?’

Is your DP a pilot? ‘Say again’ is the correct aviation terminology on the radio. As in, “Say again all after…”

I must admit I still tend to say that now as well (I used to work for an airline, and use the radio to talk to pilots and ATC).

theriseandfallofFranklinSaint · 17/01/2025 10:26

Catching your sleeve on a door handle as you walk past 😖

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 17/01/2025 10:26

Gotten

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 17/01/2025 10:29

Anyone ending a post with ‘…., no?’

Or starting it with ‘Myself and (whoever)…’ or ‘Me and (whoever…).

But it’s a relentless tide I know will never stop. 🙁
