Sentences that end with xxxx, right? xxxx, no? xxxx, yes? It not only looks wrong (maybe I should be on Pedant's Corner!) but it tells you you cannot disagree.

When someone moves the racks/shelves in my oven. They are fine the way they are. No need to shift them about for doing your pizza .

(hard stare at my eldest child but keeping silent as encouraging independence and they made me a gorgeus pasta dish this week and washed/cleared up).

My dad moves the cutlery holder in my dishwasher every time he visits....
Doesn't load the bloody thing... just moves it.

That's just rude! 😀

Putting the letter D before every sodding relationship when talking on here. Just write the sodding word out it's not hard! When people start doing with PETS, it's mental.

Is your DP a pilot? ‘Say again’ is the correct aviation terminology on the radio. As in, “Say again all after…”

I must admit I still tend to say that now as well (I used to work for an airline, and use the radio to talk to pilots and ATC).

He’s not but he used to work as a vehicle dispatcher and I reckon it’s probably the same.
I’ll ask him (twice!) when he gets in.

When people on social media upload a photo of themselves at a wedding, with a caption “Celebrating” Mr&Mrs x

Why is it annoying?

Being the only one that knows how to change the loo roll when it’s empty. Grrrrrr…..

This winds me up to no end. My partner does this to the extent where she leaves the last couple of squares on the toilet roll, so she feels that she doesn’t have to change the whole toilet roll 🙄

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 17/01/2025 13:47

Dh completely forgetting that I exist, as soon as he can’t see me - for example, offering to get me a drink, then wandering off, getting distracted, and forgetting to bring the drink.

OMG this makes me cringe!!!

Also, I have friends on social media who post about places they have been like they're people. For example:

"Well, what a weekend! Thank you Blackpool for sharing with us your beauty, your sunsets and views were a wonder! We've had such an amazing time and great memories were made..." 🤮

I adore my friends in RL but not so much on social media. I find them really irritating 😂.

Yes, I'm a horrible person and yes I need to come off FB. Although I only check it really for local news and businesses and sell stuff.

Ahhh yes. Thanking destinations for a good time. This kills me

Yes, and the posturing, headshaking, pointing and hand movements. So irritating!

And the 'let's get into it'🤢

DancingMirren · 17/01/2025 14:09

Hearing people pronounce book as berk, or perfect as pahfect, or think as thenk, just sounds very affected, especially with vocal fry

“It’s giving…”

To mean “it’s reminiscent of”

Mexicansky · 17/01/2025 14:17

Current irritation is the use of "yourself" on traitors

"I am voting for yourself Linda"

No no no just no
Most have started doing it!!!

People who misuse “yourself”, “myself” etc are basically announcing themselves as a bit thick. Can be handy.

TwigletsAndRadishes · 17/01/2025 14:40

Social media reels that start POV: and then go on to say something that isn't a point of view.

People (all of a certain ilk) who are incapable of answering any question without starting with the word 'so...'

I've noticed this is creeping in with politicians as well.

Speaking of politicians, the ones who are incapable of answering a difficult question without starting with: 'Look,....' and then waffling on in a way that completely avoids answering the question but does mention 22 billion black holes and 14 years of Tory failure.

the gradual creep of American English into the UK. When was the last time you heard someone say the word flavoursome? It's all about flavourful now.

I know. They think they are speaking 'properly' and professionally. But it's just painful. It's usually estate agents that are the main culprits but this week I've had a waitress ask 'is everything alright for yourself?'

Cornwallinverness · 17/01/2025 14:45

Patients coming into my place of work with a painful condition, they say the pain's 10/10 but havent taken any painkillers........we don't have a magic wand you know!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 17/01/2025 15:21

Maybe they are worried that, if they have taken painkillers, you won’t be able to see their real condition during the appointment, @Cornwallinverness? Or that, if they have taken painkillers, and you prescribe something better, they will have to wait to start taking it?

Someone wrote DSepsis at one point.

I can't fucking remember when it happened but I hurt myself laughing.

Driving around a busy car park looking for a space. Finally seeing one in the distance, then on approach finding someone had taken with their tiny car.

Such a a range of emotions in a small space of time.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 17/01/2025 17:42

Since I’ve just seen it elsewhere on here, people saying ‘anyways’ instead of ‘anyway’.

Where TF did that come from? I never saw it even just a few years ago.

There is a relentless tide of semi-literate thickery. Even more depressing is the number of people who think it doesn’t matter.

The annoying noise supermarket delivery vans make when they reverse.
