For me it was silver balls on cupcakes. Such a simple thing but we didn't have them very often, so whenever I saw some on a cake I'd bubble with excitement. I bought a cake today with some on and I swear, I was five years old again!

Those pink plastic Princess 'slippers' but high heeled.
They were sparkly, and held onto your feet with a strip of elastic band across the top of your foot. They made a great clacking sound as you walked in them.

The immense sorrow when the elastic broke was unbelievable, I must have been about 5 or 6 when I got my first pair, and I am 70 now, the memory is still strong how happy they made me.

I think this is where my love of high heels began.

Tutti fruiti sweets - eating the whole packet at once.
Free stuff from cereals - fabulous.
Entering blue peter competitions.
Entering my 'art' into Take Hart for the gallery.
The Disney compilation shows they used to show on Bank Holidays .

I forgot about cereal toys. Memory unlocked. I remember collecting little figures from Kelloggs corn flakes I think it was. Footballers and aliens. Then it was cards then it all stopped abruptly. Around about the same time they stopped putting the sweets inside the Easter eggs.

When they got the glue out in school and I could put it all over my hand then peel it off.

Finding the first letter of my name in a smartie lid.

Those little water game things where you would have to get the hoops on peg

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 16/01/2025 20:23

When the grass was cut for the first time in the school playing field as I knew we’d be allowed to go up there. When the new edition of Beano was in the shops and we’d walk up to buy it.

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 16/01/2025 20:24

Going swimming and the smell of chlorine would hit my nose and we’d walk through those troughs of water before we saw the pool.

Polly Pocket!

Same. And I never thought of it. Until someone bought some for my girls at Christmas. I take great pleasure in playing and popping them all back home at bedtime and it makes me feel so safe and warm

Polly Pocket!

YES
I still have them in my Mum’s attic and my daughter can play with them at hers when she is old enough

When it was the day of the week/month my magazine or comic was released - usually the Animals of Farthing Wood or the Beano - and even better if there was a free gift on the front!!

HalfaCider · 16/01/2025 20:28

Stickers on a roll, 10p pick a mix and clip on animals that I clipped to my headboard!

SweedieLie · 16/01/2025 20:29

A packet of crisps with the little salt sachet inside.

Only my nan bought them so it was once a fortnight when we visited and getting to sprinkle your own salt over your crisps was just THE BEST thing ever.

rosemole · 16/01/2025 20:29

Going to the stationery shop and sniffing the scented rubbers. Can smell them now!

Phineyj · 16/01/2025 20:29

My Bic 4 colour biro!

I'm still very partial to one 😀
