Why don’t electric toothbrushes sell their toothbrush with an adapter?

I don’t know of any house that has a two prong plug in the UK to charge up their toothbrush. Means we have to go out and buy an adapter. No they aren’t expensive but it’s a PITA to get one especially if you’ve just got home and realises you need one

My old house (built 1994, remodelled 2003) had a 2 prong adaptor in one bathroom.
But agree with you broadly, why hasn't Braun developed a UK-specific plug product.

ExtraDisorganised · 15/01/2025 11:22

We had a shaver socket put in when we re-did the bathroom about 20 years ago and will definitely do so again when we re-do it hopefully this year. So an adaptor would be a waste for us. Even if we did need one I'd rather buy one separately then keep it when we replace the brushes rather than getting another one every time.

I have a double shaver socket in the bathroom so it's not an issue for me, but every electric toothbrush I've ever bought came with a UK plug to put the two-pin thing into.

Most bathrooms do as it’s the shaver outlet.

I have a shaver outlet in my bathroom but my toothbrush plug doesn’t fit in it

I agree, I’ve never lived in a house that has had a shaver outlet in the bathroom, and have had multiple (Oral B) electric toothbrushes that have never come with a UK plug adapter. I think I bought adapters from Argos. On the plus side I bought a pack of 2 adapters once and they have outlived the toothbrushes so I haven’t had to re-buy them.

None of the electric toothb rushes any of us have ever owned have come with a UK pug. They are all two pronged and need an adapter. We don't have shaving sockets in either of our bathrooms.

PlantDoctor · 15/01/2025 11:34

I prefer it. I do have a shaving adaptor now. It's better for everyone to save the money and plastic waste of them always sending adaptors and just pay once for a cheap adaptor if you need it

Noodlesnotstrudels · 15/01/2025 11:37

I agree it's super annoying. When we redid our bathroom we had a mirror installed that has a shaver / toothbrush port on the inside. Really handy. But that means we always forget to take an adapter with us if we go and stay anywhere in the UK 🙈

Flossflower · 15/01/2025 11:38

We have a shaver adaptor in both our bathrooms. Nomal plugs sockets are not allowed in bathrooms. Most hotels have shaver adaptors.

DreamW3aver · 15/01/2025 11:42

I've never lived in a house that didnt have shaver plug sockets in the bathroom, I'm quite surprised to hear that's not universal

Coronilla · 15/01/2025 11:42

I recently bought a charger with a USB plug from Amazon, cost about a tenner I think. So much better.

CrispyCrumpets · 15/01/2025 11:46

Agree with OP. I have only ever seen shaver sockets in hotels, never in a domestic bathroom.

FrenchandSaunders · 15/01/2025 11:48

my electric toothbrush came with a usb charger.

Chersfrozenface · 15/01/2025 11:50

I just bought an Oral B toothbrush, 10 days ago, from Boots. There was a 3 pin plug adapter in the box.

bestbefore · 15/01/2025 11:52

Are you sure it doesn't fit your shaver socket?!

EmmaMaria · 15/01/2025 11:53

I agree with you. Perversely, my dogs toothbrush (made in Germany) does! It has a strange "overcoat" contraption that you fold over the two pins and it converts it to a UK plug.

We haven't got a bathroom socket so have to use an adapter

which one did you get? I also bought a new oral b toothbrush from boots last week which didn’t include an adapter and now I’m wondering if I was short changed! I got the pro 3 in pink with the travel case

FoolishHips · 15/01/2025 12:05

Is this a sneaky advert for Phillips? They have USB chargers.

I doubt it, OP has been here years and it is annoying to have to buy an adapter before using the new toothbrush

Are you advertising since you mentioned it

Mine too, we used to have a shaver socket in the bathroom but we don’t now. I don’t think they are as common as they used to be.
