As the title says. When do you know you're old? I use hand cream now, daily. How old am I?

It’s winter. Everyone’s hands get dry no matter what age you are. What a pointless thread. DD is 20 - she works outdoors so needs to use it far more than me at 60!

FuckMeUpFlorida · 15/01/2025 03:27

No shame in that! Makes your hands look nourished and not dry and flaky, same for your nails.

If you're old, then so am I, happily.

Caffeineneedednow · 15/01/2025 03:34

Since childhood, I have always had very dry skin

I'm in my late 30s now and have a little hand Moisturiser at Mt desk.

My mum is in her 70s and rarely uses Moisturiser. I think it's less age and more a skin type issue

I've been using hand cream since I was a teenager. I didn't know this was an age thing? Lol

Not sure how old you are but I'm guessing you're not black?

Joyfulspringflowers · 15/01/2025 03:58

I've never ever thought of using hand cream as an age related thing!

I've used handcream since I was a child.

I love buying handcreams because there are some beautiful ones available and trying new ones is a bit of a treat for me.

Overtheatlantic · 15/01/2025 04:19

You must be very young if you think this is a thing. Nothing worse than dry, scaly hands.

mondaytosunday · 15/01/2025 05:35

My teenage DD uses hand cream, as does my son since he was 16 and worked KP in a cafe - his hands were so red raw even after doubling up the washing up gloves. He still has very dry hands.
So you could be any age from 16 to 100!

Brooomhilda · 15/01/2025 05:48

I've used hand cream since I was about 10. So my guess is 10.

PrioritisePleasure24 · 15/01/2025 05:56

i’ve been using hand cream since my first nursery nurse job back at 16!
If you have a job when you was your hands A LOT you will use it frequently from any age…..

OTannenbaumOTannenbaum · 15/01/2025 05:59

This gave me a morning chuckle. Since when is having hand cream an old thing? 😆 When I moved to Germany in my early 20s, I had to start using hand cream as the air is so dry here. My hands would get in a state.

ScarlettSunset · 15/01/2025 06:03

Another person here who's had to use hand cream since I was a child. I don't remember not having to use it. Never occurred to me that anyone would think it was ages related.
But as you've asked, I'll guess you're in you late twenties or early thirties and have been lucky enough to have not needed to use it before.

RedRiverShore5 · 15/01/2025 06:06

I have used it since being a child so about 10

PurrrSaidTheLiger · 15/01/2025 06:17

It's not an age thing but you're probably approaching a milestone birthday and feel self-conscious?

maddiemookins16mum · 15/01/2025 06:18

I'm 60 and have hardly ever used hand cream.

fairyup · 15/01/2025 08:19

I had no idea hand cream was relevant to age. I've used hand cream daily for as long as I can remember x

IdLikeMyMomentInTheSunshine · 15/01/2025 08:20

I started early 20’s so… 🤷🏼‍♀️

Lemonade2011 · 15/01/2025 08:26

The majority of nurses I worked with on the ward use hand cream, we are washing hands constantly. So they can get really dry and sore. These are nurses 20/30/40/50 so all ages really partner gets v dry hands so also creams hands. It’s not related to age

CharlotteSometimes1 · 15/01/2025 08:29

good God be careful, you don’t want anyone thinking you’re old!

you do realise this is ageist ffs.

HerbertVonDoodlebug · 15/01/2025 08:29

I really need to start using hand cream! What is the best non greasy one for very dry hands?

Mumof1andacat · 15/01/2025 08:29

My brother has used handcream since a teenager. He's a car mechanic. So lots of hand washing and glove wearing which plays havoc with your skin.

Iliketulips · 15/01/2025 08:37

I'm 57, I think I started using it daily when I was in mid 30s, but often used it in winter before that due to really dry, chapped hands. DD started using it around the age of 16.

Bonjovispyjamas · 15/01/2025 08:54

I never used hand cream until covid, now use it all the time. All the extra hand washing and gelling seemed to have an effect 🤔 They don't look dry, just feel it.

ExtraDisorganised · 15/01/2025 08:58

I've used it since I was a teenager, my teen DD does too.

TroysMammy · 15/01/2025 09:02

I should use it regularly but I don't. I f I come across it and apply it I always find about 5 minutes later I need the toilet then it gets washed off. I need some routine like clean teeth, have a pee, wash hands then go to bed. Easy isn't it but my brain doesn't work like that.

ErrolTheDragon · 15/01/2025 09:09

I'm 64 and very rarely use any. DH does, he's prone to eczema on his hands and using nice cream in the evenings helps keep it at bay so I can just nick a bit of his if I feel the need.

However I do flexitol my feet pretty often so my hands get a good dose when I'm doing that. And I usually wear gloves in winter, and gardening gloves all year.
