As the title says. When do you know you're old? I use hand cream now, daily. How old am I?

Washing your hands with Hibiscrub results in a lot of hand cream. I must have been old at 18.

I really need to start using hand cream! What is the best non greasy one for very dry hands?

Neutrogena for me!

GogAndMagog · 15/01/2025 09:13

I only apply to the backs of my hands anyway.

My 10 year old uses hand cream. She is slightly prone to eczema and very arty so she frequently gets paint and glue on her hands and washes them a lot. The hand cream stops them getting dry and sore.

I'm 50 and keep hand cream on my desk but forget to use it most days, but then again my hands are less dry and sore than my daughter's. In fact I have lots of unopened hand cream from gift sets - I use everything else but forget about the hand cream! So I don't think it's really an age thing necessarily...

Neutrogena for me!

This is also my husband's favourite from when his hands are suffering from cold weather or too much gardening!

I should use it regularly but I don't. I f I come across it and apply it I always find about 5 minutes later I need the toilet then it gets washed off. I need some routine like clean teeth, have a pee, wash hands then go to bed. Easy isn't it but my brain doesn't work like that.

I do it just before I turn the light off
Foot cream, hand cream, lip balm, sleep

Hand cream is not a sign of old age.

My teen dd was a barista and used hand cream as the steam was tough on her hands. There’s lots of other occupations that require hand cream too. When I worked as a shelf stacker 30 hours a week, I definitely needed some cream.

MurdoMunro · 15/01/2025 11:50

Weird. I’ve just started wearing a beret, how old am I?

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 15/01/2025 11:56

I’ve used it since my teens. I’ve never thought of it as an ‘old lady’ thing.

DragonFly98 · 15/01/2025 11:59

My ten year old uses hand cream so who knows.

MurdoMunro · 15/01/2025 12:03

If it’s making you think you’re an old lady OP (I don’t know, over 45 or something, the horror) don’t worry about it. You can be wrinkled, dowdy and piss yourself with the rest of us.

I've used it since my late teens because my hands were dry and damaged because of my job which required lots of hand washing. I'm also prone to dry skin. I'm 37 and my hands look much older so I still use it regularly.

WashYourDamnRice · 15/01/2025 12:08

I've been obsessive about using hand cream since I was about 11 because I've got a weird thing about how my hands feel. If they're too rough or too soft it gives me the heebie jeebies.

My addition is I've started listening to classic FM. It's all over for me and I'm fine with that.

SilenceInside · 15/01/2025 12:09

Another one who has used handcream several times a day since childhood due to very dry skin that is prone to eczema. At a minimum I use handcream after every time I wash my hands.

I had no idea that some people think that using handcream is something that only old women do.

Davros · 15/01/2025 12:10

I started using hand cream regularly fairly recently. I'm 64

jellybe · 15/01/2025 12:10

I work in health care so wash my hands a billion times a day so I always use hand cream doesn't mean I'm old 🤷‍♀️

FeelingSad2024 · 15/01/2025 12:10

I've used hand cream daily for 17 years. I'm 38. I wash up and garden without gloves, my job is fairly physical (police) and I use my hands a lot, I'm often outside in the elements, washing my hands often also.

Hand cream is not an 'old person' thing

Neutrogena for me!

Aveeno. I have bad excema and it's all I can use. Stay far away from emollient cream.

I also use eucerin with urea when the pads of my fingers crack, but this is greasy and sticky so not for every day use.

jellybe · 15/01/2025 12:11

My 9 year old also uses it as his hands crack in winter. Nothing wrong with using something that makes your skin feel good whatever age you are.

WashYourDamnRice · 15/01/2025 12:12

MurdoMunro · 15/01/2025 11:50

Weird. I’ve just started wearing a beret, how old am I?

Late 60s. My mum (same age) tried one on in m&s last year and I had to cross my legs so I didn't piss my pants at the sight.

I'm sure you look lovely though. My ma on the other hand..

Neutrogena for me!

Neutrogena concentrated (unscented) is best. Only need a small amount, it goes a long way, sinks in easily and is non-greasy. I've been using it for years and years. People know I use hand cream and I hate it when people buy me scented hand creams or other brands, none of them are as good.

How old am I?

Somewhere between 14 and 99?!

It's not an age thing, it's a dry hand thing 😂

NoWordForFluffy · 15/01/2025 12:23

I mean, if you don't know how old you are, I can't help.

Well done on the hand cream. Your hands will thank you for it.
