As the title says. When do you know you're old? I use hand cream now, daily. How old am I?

How bizarre. I've used hand cream since I was a kid.

Karatema · 15/01/2025 12:52

I received lots of mini handcreams from my DS and DDiL, for Christmas! I must admit to being disappointed because I rarely use the stuff! My DH was also disappointed because he does use it but they are all flowery scented so he won't use them either 🤣
My other DSiL has said she'd love some, so it won't be wasted.

I would say if you've just started using it when you never needed to before then you're probably 45 - 50 as I'm that age and have found my skin to now be much drier than before.

It’s winter. Everyone’s hands get dry no matter what age you are. What a pointless thread. DD is 20 - she works outdoors so needs to use it far more than me at 60!

How bloody rude. You don't get to decide what is or is not a pointless thread.

Op this is something that bothers me as I didn't start using hand cream until maybe a year ago and I think my hands look 'old' (even in summer) I always religiously moisturise my face, neck n chest though twice a day. I wonder if I may have left it too late as I am mid to late 40's now.

ClassicalQueen · 15/01/2025 13:25

I've used it most days since my teens! I wash my hands frequently which dries them out.

22nws · 15/01/2025 13:25

Perhaps over 50?

I'm getting on for 50 and only use handcream if my hands are cracked in the winter. And only the rescue stuff. I couldn't be arsed using it for no particular reason. The soap in my house is baby soap so it's gentle enough that I can wash my hands frequently without them getting damaged.

I would make sure that the stuff you wash your hands in is as mild as possible as some soap/handwash dries your hands really quickly but other stuff doesn't.

Me tooooo, how funny! I used to be given loads and never used it. In fact, I'm using up old handcreams I've had for ages. I'm 51 but still not in menopause (possibly peri but still v regular).

Middlemarch123 · 15/01/2025 13:30

I use Clarins hand and nail cream, it’s amazing.

mummysontheginalready · 15/01/2025 13:44

Lavender14 · 15/01/2025 13:45

I'm going to guess 35 but I would have used hand cream from my teens...

Redcrayons · 15/01/2025 13:49

I’ve personally decided that it is in fact pointless, as have the vast majority of other posters on this thread. Hand cream has no age restrictions if you weren’t already aware. Hope this helps!

stayathomer · 15/01/2025 14:21

40s? (I don’t get dry hands but mine are starting to look older if you know what I mean so starting now)

DustyMaiden · 15/01/2025 14:28

I started this week im 62.

BeachCityVibes21 · 15/01/2025 20:31

I can't believe y'all have been using hand cream since childhood. It never occurred to me!

Redcrayons · 15/01/2025 20:45

Do people use it to make their hands look younger? I’d never thought about that.

Mine always feel dry and tight if I don’t use it.

I even have a special bedtime one which smells of lavender.

pavillion1 · 15/01/2025 21:46

protectthesmallones · 16/01/2025 10:22

I've needed hand cream since I was 16. So any age really.
