What's the sweetest thing someone has done for you recently?

I'll go first.

Currently on mat leave with DC2. I ran out of my usual perfume recently, I only tend to wear this particular one. I decided I wasn't going to replace it, as it's a bit of an extravagant purchase whilst money is tight.
I didn't say anything to DH and was just wearing one I'd been gifted. DH randomly brought me my usual one. I told him he shouldn't have, we're meant to be cutting back. He said I didn't smell like 'me'.

What are yours?

Just my little shy kid turned around and told me I was 'the best Mum ever'. Completely out of the blue. It was a real treasured moment.

fanaticalfairy · 12/01/2025 09:33

My daughter (5) saved me one her mini marshmallows, because "I know you like them mama".

My son, 17, on Christmas Day, saying how appreciative he was about the upbringing he had had. Honestly, I will hold that in my heart forever.

Awww these are lovely. Kids can say or do the smallest thing that means so much.

My DH brought me breakfast in bed (that's not the sweetest thing, he does it most days). I had asked for dairylea on one piece and jam on the other, he made a dam with a piece of kitchen paper so that the jam didn't contaminate the dairylea.

My middle grandson gave me a hug and told me I smelled of my house. He then said he loved the smell of my house. That was really sweet. It's just our washing stuff I think!

Elephant Converse GIF

DH has de iced and warmed up my car every morning before I’ve left for work.

RudolfsLeftToe · 12/01/2025 14:13

I don’t know how or why that elephant is there!

27th Dec, our elderly neighbours invited us around for a drink. We've lived here 3yrs, but been renovating and never been to their house. DH's mother had a fall, so we were at the hospital instead. I told the neighbours we couldn't come.

A few days later, she came around with a bottle of champagne and said 'This is what we would have been drinking if you'd been able to come over'. So unexpected.

I wondered that too! 😆

My grown daughter sent me this before Christmas , still makes me teary , totally out of the blue and unexpected.

‘Becoming an adult is realizing your mom was the holiday magic the Christmas decorations, baking holiday cookies, creating traditions, staying up late to watch Christmas movies. It was always her ❤️’

AmethystRuby · 12/01/2025 14:25

my 4yo called me her hero. it actually brought a tear to my eye. My DH does sweet things from time to time but nothing beats the feeling your kids give you

All I want is a coffee in bed in peace in the mornings. If DH sticks the telly on for the kids and brings me a coffee in the morning that's my day made!

It doesn't matter, it's hilarious!

RosesAndHellebores · 12/01/2025 14:29

When I sat on the bed last night tontake my pills, I realised I hadn't brought up a new bottle of water as the old one had finished. Just before I reached for my dressing gown, I noticed that DH had brought one up. Not asked, not expected, just thoughtfully having my back.

My friend got up at dawn on a Saturday to got for a run with me in sub zero weather because she knew I was trying really hard to commit to exercise 🥰

@nigellalawsonsmicrowave
such a lovely thread

I had surgery recently. My friend came to my house unannounced with some flowers and a multipack of Wispa bars.

PauliesWalnuts · 12/01/2025 14:34

I had an utterly shit year last year, and am still really struggling. A friend posted me a book that she said would help me find myself again, and I’m starting to. It’ll take a long, long time, but I will find that person I used to be.

Our 30 year old son just talked out of the blue about how mine and DH's outlook on life and encouragement has inspired him to make such a success of his life and career. We've always encouraged him but we had no idea just how deep his appreciation is.

marriednotdead · 12/01/2025 14:40

Random chat around the dinner table with DP and adult DS. We were talking about favourite things in life and DS announced that I was his favourite human.
Given that we generally have a very playful relationship, he is on the autistic spectrum and that he has a long term girlfriend, I was taken aback and gave a jokey response.
DP admonished me for being flippant when DS was being genuinely nice, and DS repeated what he said. He rarely hugs me so I am still quite emotional thinking about it.

PurpleStripedCat · 12/01/2025 14:42

My son is disabled and attends a respite centre every few weeks. The day before Christmas Eve the manager knocked at our door with a big hamper full of Christmasy goodies, everything for a Christmas dinner and a voucher for a Turkey. It was so lovely and unexpected.
