What's the sweetest thing someone has done for you recently?

I'll go first.

Currently on mat leave with DC2. I ran out of my usual perfume recently, I only tend to wear this particular one. I decided I wasn't going to replace it, as it's a bit of an extravagant purchase whilst money is tight.
I didn't say anything to DH and was just wearing one I'd been gifted. DH randomly brought me my usual one. I told him he shouldn't have, we're meant to be cutting back. He said I didn't smell like 'me'.

What are yours?

On the phone to me daughter asked her 5 year old where he wanted to be babysat - home or nannas - he shouted 'NANNAS'

I’ve thought of another - DS is 13 and we’re getting to the grunting, moody stage but he leaves the house before me during the week and has sent me an update on how icy the pavements / roads are. I fell on the ice last year and broke my arm which has made me very nervous in this weather.

For Christmas my son bought me a bottle of CK One, that he knows I love but stopped wearing because people including my partner laugh at it for being very 90's.

Moral of the tale. Be yourself 😊

A couple of months ago now. DM was in hospital, dementia so very confused and disorientated. The other patients were amazing with her, no judgement and really reassured her when she was calling for me. Anyway I had to go with my DS to another hospital to see a consultant (we'd been waiting ages, it was a 5 hour round trip and I had to be there with him) which meant I'd miss visiting and DM wouldn't have anyone, nor would she understand why.

I was telling one of the ladies on her ward how awful I felt about it , just in general chit chat and despite her being discharged the following day she offered to come back to sit with DM on the day I couldn't be there. It's hands down the most wonderful, thoughtful thing anyone has ever done for me. I'll never ever forget her.

What an incredibly kind thing to do. Loves your story and hope your DM is doing ok.

@Newtrix Thankyou, sadly my DM caught pneumonia in hospital and died the day before DS had his appointment, so the lady didn't have to sit with her in the end.
Her warmth brought such comfort to a really dark time. I'll forever look back and smile that even in her last days, when mentally things were going very badly indeed, DM still had the ability to make friends that she'd had all her life.

My grown daughter sent me this before Christmas , still makes me teary , totally out of the blue and unexpected.

‘Becoming an adult is realizing your mom was the holiday magic the Christmas decorations, baking holiday cookies, creating traditions, staying up late to watch Christmas movies. It was always her ❤️’

Loading my weekly shopping into the car in a packed supermarket car park. I had one child next to me and toddler in the trolley. A man was hovering around and I wondered why. Once I put all the shopping in the car he handed me a pound and said he’d take the trolley back for me so I could just get the kids in the car. So lovely.

@Trainors
ah I know it was a fb / TikTok thing and not her own words
but the sentiment was there ❤️

I’ve been telling my friend lately how I’m in the mood for a good steak. I haven’t had one in ages.
Yesterday, she came over and ordered me to stay out of the kitchen.
Awhile later, she presented me with a beautiful steak and jacket potato and sautéed mushrooms.
Such a sweet thing to do and such a surprise. ❤️
But the mushrooms had a weird skin on them and were kind of unpleasant.
”Those aren’t mushrooms - they’re Brussels sprouts,” she told me.
They were much better after I learned that.
😂😂😂

DH has had to travel for work for a few days, he made sure he brought inside all the fuel I'd need for the fireplace (from the shed outside) so I didn't need to go out and get it. Sounds boring, but I am so grateful for that little act of kindness.

Oh, and I stubbed my toe and my 2.5yr old DD rushed over, asked "mummy, you ok? I kiss it better?" So cute (I didn't let her kiss my toes 🤣)

CorduroySituation · 13/01/2025 22:24

Out walking the dog with DH today. We are in north Scotland so still very cold, lots of snow and ice built up over the past 2 weeks.

We got to a part of the country walk where there was no option but to try to cross a very slippy totally icy, like proper sheet of solid ice, bit of path.

DH told me to wait, went back along the track to a bin, filled several dog poo bags with sand/salt/grit, came back and laid a trail for us to cross. Then held my arm tightly as we scooted over.

It made me feel so looked after.

Oh I'm so sorry @Haveyoubrushedyourteeth Some people are a beacon without even realising. It's a testament to you and your Mum that someone was willing to do something so kind for you.
