It’s no so much this thread’s bias or preference. That’s clear enough. It’s that anyone is entitled to question the praise for the government and the attacks on other politicians and points of view, and to point out government failures and hypocrisy. This thread isn’t a private publication.

If you want a special fenced-off area ask MN for one.

Does anyone remember wanting a special fenced off area or thinking our threads were private publications?

I remember people not wanting us to keep these threads in Chat

That's why there's a Brexit board.

Where did they want them to be?

Notonthestairs · 07/01/2025 17:56

Nobody on here has to justify anything the Government does or doesnt do.
We aren't official Government spokespeople.

I don't go on book/gardening/prepping/tv watching threads and tell them they need to include more contrasting coverage of Attwood/fuchsias/tins/Vera to be considered valid or worthy.

I will however look out for the keenly observed criticisms of the Conservative party by Tory voters given their determination to be even handed.

And that - probably to the relief of all - will be my last word on the subject.

Piggywaspushed · 07/01/2025 18:01

We had a problem with The Staffroom during Covid which kept getting visitors. It was really nasty. HQ took it out f active which helped a lot. But basically it's a dead area now - hardly posted on because we don't want to be critcised and savaged.

I have often raised issues on here - but it's hard to discuss FWR type issues sometimes because that can start a row so I tend to keep my counsel unless poked because I don't want to invite argument. Likewise, I am a Corbynite really and have plenty to say about various issues regarding the right wingedness of Starmer, Israel etc but - meh- I prefer some harmony and accept I am a minority even on here amongst these Commies. I have started separate threads on things like inequalities and institutional racism on MN and it's been crickets.

I have not commented on Siddiqi because I don't feel I can begin to understand Bangladeshi politics.

BIossomtoes · 07/01/2025 17:55

Where did they want them to be?

Politics or news iirc, it was the same with the Westministender threads

As Serendepity says that's why there is a Brexit board

As a microcosm of UK society, the vast number of MN posters have little interest in politics. I wager more know their star sign than their MP.

This is why it's trivial to spot threads and posters that are planted to give an impression. I am sure I don't need to be specific for posters here to know what I mean.

I think we might occupy the same political space.

You may not be alone...

PandoraSox · 07/01/2025 18:18

Same. Though I came to despair of Corbyn, but not (most of) his policies.

PandoraSox · 07/01/2025 18:22

Just read this 🫣

Donald Trump refused to say that he would not use military or economic measures to bring the Panama Canal and the island of Greenland under US control.

“No, I can’t assure you on either of those two,” Trump responded, when a reporter at his Mar-a-Lago press conference asked if he would rule out “military or economic coercion” to put the US in charge of the two areas.

“But, I can say this, we need them for economic security. The Panama Canal was built for our military. I’m not going to commit to that now … it might be that you’ll have to do something,” Trump continued.

Piggywaspushed · 07/01/2025 18:24

The man is quite mad. I find it genuinely terrifying.

Is he trying to say "Lebensraum" ?

Me too. And they said Biden was senile, he made more sense than the monologue I’ve just heard excerpts of.

DuncinToffee · 07/01/2025 18:29

He said this out loud

Q. Do you think Zuckerberg is responding to the threats you've made to him in the past?

TRUMP: Probably. Yeah. Probably.

OP posts:
bombastix · 07/01/2025 18:33

That's the thing about Trump. He is realpolitik. He's not bothered about it. So it is no bother to him to confirm it to a reporter

BornFreeButinChains · 07/01/2025 18:37

@Rummly so this is the hot bed of resistance on the musk threads?

Where the obsession has come from and repetition over and and over again re the reports.

bombastix · 07/01/2025 18:41

Oh god come on Rummly is like bloody Duchess in Alice in Wonderland!

It would help you all to consider the following;

(S)he only does it too annoy
Because she knows it teases

I'll say what I always say; no one has to respond to anyone else. But do take some responsibility for interacting with her. It makes the thread a massive chiz

littledrummergirls · 07/01/2025 18:43

I would say he's jumped the shark, but that happened a long time ago, it's just become more overt.

BIossomtoes · 07/01/2025 18:46

The voice of common sense @bombastix. I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed your uncharacteristic rants @Notonthestairs, you were on fire!

Same. Though I came to despair of Corbyn, but not (most of) his policies.

Same I thought he had some quite sensible policies.
as for Tulip she has referred herself, which is what she should do I’m another one who has no idea about Bangladesh politics, I’m also on the fence a fair bit with FWR issues so don’t comment, my main motivation for being on these threads & the previous incarnations is for the community the many many strands of information that I probably wouldn’t otherwise come across & I find the posters really very interesting.

Don't wish that on the poor shark!
