@bombastix you are right about the influx. A good reason not to engage with them. They will vanish again soon until the next opportunity for them to air their hate arises.

bombastix · 07/01/2025 15:16

My favourite is the listing Nostradamus who claims a number of unspecified geopolitical issues will cause a UK government with a massive majority to implode.

Or a massive civil war.

Awful, fear mongering bullshit

Zonder · 07/01/2025 15:40

Rummly · 07/01/2025 14:13

That’s all fine. Posts and posters can be ignored as one wishes.

It does say something, though, about the quality of discussion on this thread, and the absence of any serious thought, if perfectly civil and accurate comment gets ignored, just because it doesn’t suit you.

To be fair these threads don't tend to be so much about discussion / debate as much as information sharing and discussion of that rather than trying to find holes that quite possibly don't exist and causing an argument.

cardibach · 07/01/2025 15:54

bombastix · 07/01/2025 13:18

@cardibach - probably not. Group sex offending will create a significant degree of trauma in a victim, likely CPTSD. The cases of these girls are quite harrowing because the group aspect meant children kept in houses for days, with multiple men coming to rape them. They would have absolutely known they could not leave nor a chance of escape.

Children do recover sometimes from sexual abuse. But the chances of recovery from repeat trauma are far less, and multiple offenders will typically make for far greater trauma.

Offender profiles do matter. It seems that the intelligence and MO of such gangs and the prosecution of men are common across the UK.

Fair point. The circumstances of these types of abuse can lead to greater trauma.

DuncinToffee · 07/01/2025 16:30

Here you go @Rummly , it's from the Guardian, hope you don't mind that

Bangladeshi anti-corruption officials have demanded the bank account details of Tulip Siddiq, the City minister, and six of her family members.

Officials have told the Guardian they have asked all Bangladeshi banks to share account information and transactions.

FFS. Conservative voters complaining that left wing voters arent being sufficiently critical for their taste.

It's a MN thread, not the BBC.
You dont get to decide whether we live up to your criteria and/or complain we aren't covering what you want in the way that you want it.
We arent subject to IPSO.
These threads dont have to please you.
We are not performing a public service.
Nobody on here is pretending to be apolitical - apart from you.
And experience tells me losing an election doesnt automatically make you non partisan.

Dont like Guardian articles or articles by specific journalists, dont fucking read them then. But you dont get to hold yourseld out as having the authoritative voice on it nor do you get to chuck around insults like preteens rather than look at the substance.

In my non-Labour-voting opinion I think these threads have been far more critical of Labour than any Conservative voter could have hoped for or would have ever volunteered themselves. It certainly wouldn't have cut both ways. I don't see Conservative voters pulling Jenrick or Badenoch's comments or policies apart or even acknowledging them. But I have a whole other rant about centre/left wing self flagellation I dont have time to get in to. It's why One Nationers were always going to get their arse kicked.

BestIsWest · 07/01/2025 16:49

Ignoring myself!

rockstarshoes · 07/01/2025 16:53

Is anyone watching the Trump Press Conference?

cardibach · 07/01/2025 16:59

No @rockstarshoes
Whats he talking about?

PandoraSox · 07/01/2025 17:00

Please share details @rockstarshoes.

BustingBaoBun · 07/01/2025 17:01

Yes. I have watched some of it. It's like going back 4 years to something horrible.

Yes please. I really appreciate you taking one for the team.

Where did you watch it, please?

BustingBaoBun · 07/01/2025 17:02

All these world leaders have been ringing him up and saying 'thank you'.
Apparently

BustingBaoBun · 07/01/2025 17:02

It's live on Sky News

cardibach · 07/01/2025 17:04

I can’t bear to look at him or hear his voice. I pretty much completely stopped watching the news last time he was in.

It's bad. Very bad.

Nobody’s suggested any of those things.

But no posters dictate who can and can’t post on threads or that they have to agree with a thread’s subject or point of view. Or that they can’t point out inconsistencies and hypocrisy. Posters on this thread have been saying how they’ve going onto pro-Musk/Farage threads and making opposing comments, after all.*

If praise or support for the government is going to mean anything it should at least acknowledge both the good and the bad.

I don’t chuck around insults.

*I’ve left all those well alone. They’re not very, er, thoughtful.

rockstarshoes · 07/01/2025 17:06

It was just a wave of conciousness really - the BBC were obviously trying to pull some sort of sense from it - the headline flashed up with Trump says no more Windmills!

That was the point that he was talking about them driving whales crazy & not being able to bury the sails!

We had dishwashers, faucets with no water, the Panama Canal & electric heaters making you itch!

BBC have left him to it!

Evenstar · 07/01/2025 17:06

Saw a summary on Bluesky, also can’t bear to watch

Glad I wasn't imagining it because I was starting to wonder! 🤔

Notonthestairs · 07/01/2025 17:19

"If praise or support for the government is going to mean anything it should at least acknowledge both the good and the bad."

These threads don't have to mean anything. They are no reporting restrictions or standards relevant here. No Vox Pops needed. Its not Newsnight.
And we dont need to comply to your thread standards.

If we were pretending to be politically neutral your criticism would hold. But I dont think anyone on here has pretended to be anything they are not.

Of course you are free to complain about as you wish.

It’s no so much this thread’s bias or preference. That’s clear enough. It’s that anyone is entitled to question the praise for the government and the attacks on other politicians and points of view, and to point out government failures and hypocrisy. This thread isn’t a private publication.

If you want a special fenced-off area ask MN for one.

Well, if we're hypocrites then so is everyone attacking the government here on Mumsnet...

Aaron Rupar on bluesky (and probably still on x) is a good account to follow re the orange one, he has video clips as well
