Maybe he can be whacked by a windmill sail instead?

What I especially enjoy, and love, about these threads - having discovered them only fairly recently - is that despite different political affiliations, we discuss things with each other while respecting our differences.

Yet you, @Rummly, don't do this. There's no respect in the way that you post. Just sneer.

"If praise or support for the government is going to mean anything it should at least acknowledge both the good and the bad."

These threads don't have to mean anything. They are no reporting restrictions or standards relevant here. No Vox Pops needed. Its not Newsnight.
And we dont need to comply to your thread standards.

If we were pretending to be politically neutral your criticism would hold. But I dont think anyone on here has pretended to be anything they are not.

Of course you are free to complain about as you wish.

Agree.

No one here has ever claimed to be politely neutral. We are here because we all have a shared interest in politics.

I'm not even even sure we have a complete shared interest in parties, PMs or policies. Well we share an interest in discussing them but we don't all agree on everything.

That's why I love this thread - fair and adult discussion and I've changed my stance in things from reading others links and information.

I'm fairly centric politically.

Sneering about the cat/dog/flower photos on this thread is also a sign that this particular poster simply doesn't get what these threads are about.

You may not be alone...

Is there room for me on that little bench too?

BIossomtoes · 07/01/2025 20:11

Poor woman. She looks ill. It’s clearly taking its toll.

bombastix · 07/01/2025 20:14

I like the flowers and the dogs and the cats. And the politics.

It's a weird British thing like Radio 4, ie

"Twenty thousand people have been left without electricity after Storm Musk passes through East Anglia. Kemi Badenoch has declared she is thinking carefully about something. This was the World at One. ..

And now, Melvyn Bragg explores the dying industry of flower pressing, in "Ya Press Aye", a personal memory"

I think I may be the only (puts head above parapet and outs myself) Brexiteer on this thread. More of the Tony Benn variety though. I was in despair when Corbyn stayed quiet.

I also found the Brexit board very hostile and entrenched in the view that every brexit voter was a hard line far right racist so avoided it after a while, finding common ground here has been really good.

Thing is, I can respect people who voted Leave for rational reasons. There's always been much to dislike about the EU. But those rational Leave voters can at least agree with the rest of us that Brexit as it has been done has been an utter disaster, and that the way the referendum was handled was completely flawed.

littledrummergirls · 07/01/2025 20:27

We do absolutely agree on this Pointythings.

The biggest mistake Corbyn ever made IMHO was not declaring how he voted in the referendum. I am certain he voted for Brexit, a few of my more left wing friends did.

If he had he may well have won in 2019 and we would have perhaps had a very different form of Brexit.

My DH thinks the above opinion is a load of shite, btw. We have had many arguments about it!

Yes. I feel for her. She was only just holding it together, I think.

I was torn until the last hour.

I had reasons that leaving EU seemed like a good idea.

It was my brother who was in the forces at the time who persuaded me that leave overall was a bad idea.

He's an out and out Tory currently - not far right from what he says. Interestingly I have no idea what party he voted for back then.

He's currently working private sector and it's interesting to watch how peoples opinions change with life events.

bombastix · 07/01/2025 20:54

Lots of economic Tories still out there.

What they think of their new Powellite party who knows?

itsgettingweird · 07/01/2025 20:58

Just watched the Jess Phillips interview.

She looks so upset and not her usual self.

Good interview though and lots of great comments afterwards.

I hope she's protected properly

The one I live with is struggling. He comes out with the odd negative comment about the government but his heart’s not in it. He’s been particularly glum since Jenrick’s latest outburst.

You're doing good work, but unfortunately you're outnumbered by the usual squad of people we are not allowed to describe as racist and thick.

" There's no respect in the way that you post. Just sneer."

No-one ever sneers or is disrespectful on this thread, of course.

Not at other people on this thread, no. Some people on other threads leave one with the impression that disrespect is the best they deserve.

bombastix · 07/01/2025 22:41

She only does it to annoy
Because she knows it teases

littledrummergirls · 07/01/2025 22:54

Nadine Doris just said that the Jay report was never discussed around the cabinet table.
She also said that death threats is part of politics, the subtext being Jess Phillips needs to put up with it.
Apparently the processes in government mean you can't deliver anything.

Edited as Nadine autocorrected to Native

PandoraSox · 07/01/2025 22:55

We are a bit disrespectful to certain politicians I suppose!

It is nice that we have a couple of new names on the thread this evening. Hopefully they will stick around and join in the discussions.

She's delivered a bit of ammo there for Starmer tomorrow if it is true the report was never discussed in cabinet.
