Read my mind.

Great minds Grin

I did wonder when all this praise of Starmer would get a reaction Wink

Presumably the pie charts that are in the data article earlier in the thread. The one that shows 7% of CSA suspects are Asian and 83% are white.
For reference the respective %s of the UK population are 8.9% and 82%.

Disproportionate - yes but not 'starkly' so

Yes, that doesn’t surprise me because of the proportion of the population. However, what did was a prevalence of British Pakistani men in the grooming gangs and cases across the UK. Something like 90 percent of those convicted. The organization of these crimes was extensive.

It has been highlighted by Andy Burnham commissioning his own inquiries in Manchester.

countrygirl99 · 07/01/2025 09:48

I've a PC friend who works in this area and she tells me that the sale of CSA varies between communities. Grooming gangs predominate in Asian groups but internet based abuse suspects are primarily white. I suppose it depends if people think it's worse to actually do the rape rather than pay to watch it. I find both utterly repugnant.

bombastix · 07/01/2025 09:48

DuncinToffee · 07/01/2025 09:25

When you look at the conviction profile then it’s very stark.

What conviction profile?

@DuncinToffee I think the figure is something like near 90 percent of British Pakistani origin for these grooming cases.

That isn’t to say that child abuse doesn’t occur in other contexts of course with different offender profiles. For example, we would see also that British white sex offenders generally abuse alone. Gang abuse has a different racial pattern in the UK, based on the convictions since 2012.

Rummly · 07/01/2025 09:32

I could, sure. But since this thread, like all its predecessors and no doubt successors, is in chat, and is devoted to politics and current affairs (and cats), I thought I’d comment here.

Thing is, Tulip Siddiq referred herself to the standards committee promptly. The contrast with the previous administration is stark. Therefore not much discussion on here is needed - she's done what was needed and there won't be a story unless she's found to have behaved with impropriety. In which case you may be sure she will be condemned on these threads.

bombastix · 07/01/2025 09:52

Btw I don’t think these differences should not be discussed. It leaves a void that is filled by something extreme. Or ignoring a pattern of offending that may be critical in detecting a wider criminal network. That was in part something of a problem because connections were not made, with incidents treated singly whereas the actual evidence was organised rape.

Lots of people commenting on the
So called grooming gang issue in following some “intervention” from the USA

They might want to consider that Starmer left office as DPP with the highest conviction rate for child sexual abuse since records began.

Well that hasn’t been sustained has it? Bloody system is nearly broken for lack of funding and the Tories deciding that prosecuting lawyers should be paid peanuts.

RafaistheKingofClay · 07/01/2025 10:05

Where does the ‘grooming gangs are 90% British Pakistani’ figure come from? The figure I could find that fact checked Braverman’s claim of something similar from 2022 was closer to 20%.

That figure comes from who ended up in court! We aren’t talking about a figure of overall child sex offending in the UK

but Isn’t it just as bad to abuse by other methods?

‘We stand by Jess’: Telford survivors criticise Musk’s attack on Phillips

Exclusive: Victims of male violence sign letter praising minister for devoting life to ‘fighting for women and girls’

Absolutely no one is interested in the victims here. Who gives a shit what they say ? Not when there's column inches to be made pretending to care.

Oh goody Hmm

Huge changes across Facebook's platforms coming soon.

We're going to get rid of fact-checkers and replace them with community notes, similar to X, starting in the U.S," Mark Zuckerberg announces He asserts that "the fact-checkers have just been too politically biased, and have destroyed more trust than they've created, especially in the U.S."

enshittification in action

‘Enshittification’ is coming for absolutely everything

‘Enshittification’ is coming for absolutely everything

The term describes the slow decay of online platforms such as Facebook. But what if we’ve entered the ‘enshittocene’?

bombastix · 07/01/2025 13:18

@cardibach - probably not. Group sex offending will create a significant degree of trauma in a victim, likely CPTSD. The cases of these girls are quite harrowing because the group aspect meant children kept in houses for days, with multiple men coming to rape them. They would have absolutely known they could not leave nor a chance of escape.

Children do recover sometimes from sexual abuse. But the chances of recovery from repeat trauma are far less, and multiple offenders will typically make for far greater trauma.

Offender profiles do matter. It seems that the intelligence and MO of such gangs and the prosecution of men are common across the UK.

Something strange is happening on these boards at the moment. For long time there have been posters who I don't perceive to be genuine, posting to stir up trouble for Labour and have been in support of Putin.

Since the influx of Musk supporters, genuine or otherwise, a number of those original posters appear to be going into battle with the Musk ones. It's an interesting development watching familiar names seemingly change tack.

There are some very prolific far right posters with no posting history apart from the last couple of days.

That’s all fine. Posts and posters can be ignored as one wishes.

It does say something, though, about the quality of discussion on this thread, and the absence of any serious thought, if perfectly civil and accurate comment gets ignored, just because it doesn’t suit you.

littledrummergirls · 07/01/2025 14:28

Rummly · 07/01/2025 09:30

Again, that’s jolly good. But it’s got nothing to do with the complete absence on this thread of any acknowledgment of the story or its possible implications.

There is nothing currently to react to. She has done the right thing and referred herself. If she is found to have done anything wrong, then I'm pretty sure she will resign or have the whip withdrawn.

Had she not referred herself, then there would probably be something to react to.

ilovesooty · 07/01/2025 13:57

Yep. And some trying to hide what they really are with faux "can this really be true" posts containing horrible smears.

bombastix · 07/01/2025 14:30

He's done well. But then generally he's quite sure footed about criminal law which you would expect. If he wasn't, I'd actually be worried.

As for suddenly right wing posters there is an influx. A lot of them posting similar material to when the riots occurred. Right down to their bonkers lists and total ignorance of the UK and its politics.

bombastix · 07/01/2025 14:32

@PandoraSox it's called the concern troll. Someone who doesn't have opinion but "can it be true?"

Pull the other one. Nigel Farage is jingling on it

PandoraSox · 07/01/2025 14:33

Re: Siddiq, let's see want is uncovered. In the meantime, this made me laugh.

The Mail on Sunday said Siddiq had previously told its reporters that the flat had been bought by her parents and given to her as a gift, prompting accusations she had misled the newspaper.

She misled the Mail? Bang her up!
