Super king bed

Hi! So we’re finding our double too small and I’m looking and kings and super kings.

Beyond the measurements, are there any considerations you think I should be taking on board before purchasing?

Also - what are your views on fabric headboards? I’ve only ever had wood and I’m worried it may stain and get smelly over time, does that happen?!

Thanks

@Is2025theyearofthedog how deep is your mattress? These John Lewis ones are described as deep and not extra deep but they’ve been the best value we have found, and haven’t shrunk on washing.

I recently needed to buy deep sheets (JL) after adding a not very thick mattress topper to a KS. Ditto for a sofa bed mostly used only by Gdcs - I pad it with a quilted cover (for comfort) with a quilted waterproof cover on top, since Gds is not reliably dry at night.

The previous standard fitted sheet did still just about fit, but was an absolute bugger to get on! I invariably needed dh’s extra muscle.

@GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER our old sheets were hopeless, and used to ping off if we even turned over. I actually bought some “sheet suspenders” to hold them under the mattress which worked pretty well, but deeper sheets are definitely the way forwards! Not sure why fitted sheets seem to shrink more than any other type of bedding? We have the same issue with DD’s toddler bed fitted sheets. I assume the elastic.

Superking with a single duvet each is the way.
Still lovely and cosy, but easier to change the bedding and less chance of waking the other in the night.

This is what we have on our superking. I would hate to go back to sharing a duvet

got a superking with fabric headboard from LOAF 2 years ago. Game charger. Just prop a pillow against the fabric before you sit back if you are worried about stains.

also we got two mattresses (zip link) which means we don’t wake each other up when we roll over as the mattress doesn’t move. Couldn’t do without our bed now love it!!

Love my super king - very spacious. We have a duvet each. Fabric headboard which has a removeable cover that I wash regularly.
