I think I’m getting into building LEGO 😮

I bought an expensive (somewhere over £100) Lego Campervan set several years ago. I thought is was such an attractive thing, but never made it. Got it out over Christmas and have been building it together with my husband. It’s so satisfying 🙂 When we have finished, husband will fit it with lights, so we can use it as a lamp 😀

I had a look on the Lego website and it appears I have very expensive taste. The Orient Express is gorgeous, but £260! The Titanic is amazing and who couldn’t want it, but we couldn't justify £590 on a Lego set unless we had a large Premium Bond win.

Thankfully, I do quite like some of the botanicals and they now look really cheap! I’d love to hear from other Lego enthusiasts. . . . . . .

Embrace the dark side and accept you're AFOL (Adult Fon Of Lego). All the best people are. 🥰

I've got the Orient Express sat waiting to be built. I got it on the last double points weekend and also got two gifts for spending over a certain amount.

I'm waiting to get the new modular and the new flower bouquet that come out on the 1st. I have about £150 worth of Lego points to spend which will soften the blow!

Not Lego but BlueBrixx...

We are in our 50s with no DC, not even grown up ones. DH randomly bought me a BlueBrixx advent calendar. Lego/BlueBrixx is not something we have ever been into, but we have absolutely loved making all the little models in the run up to Christmas.

I know nothing of the points, or gifts from Lego 😮 Could you explain and perhaps advise on the best times/way to buy from the Lego site?

I love the botanicals! I've got 5 sets already built, and between my birthday and Christmas this year I've got another 5 waiting! I love that they are attractive enough to display, and they are an easy gift for people to give me, especially as they keep releasing new ones 🥰

BobbyBiscuits · 27/12/2024 12:16

I saw this show about Aussies making big Lego structures. Next thing I know I'm fantasizing about a whole Lego garden. 🤣

JT69 · 27/12/2024 12:17

I got the Lego tuxedo cat from DS. Most satisfying as a project (there’s 20 bags of Lego and I’ve only completed bag 1!) It ll keep me off my phone which is a good thing .

Lego Insiders, is free to join and you get points for each set that you buy from Lego. The listing's on the website show how many points for each set. If you buy elsewhere you can scan the code on the set and get 20 points.

Points can be redeemed for money off or for various rewards. Lego do double points weekends fairly regularly throughout the year and as it says, you then get double points, or sometimes more if they have an offer on a specific set. They also do a gift with purchase so spend x amount and get a free gift. I got a Christmas train and retro record player when I got the Orient Express as I spent enough to get both gifts.

The website always announces double points weekends, always one in mid/late November (coincides with my birthday!).

@JT69 I saw the cat on an advert. He's lovely. But I really wish they'd do different cat colours. I guess tuxedo is the most common, apart from black. Mine are a chubby tabby and a skinny white with black 'wig' and tail. And a pink nose.

Can you show us when it's finished?
They need to make loads! 🥰

BobbyBiscuits · 27/12/2024 19:59

@RenegadeKeeblerElf these are the ones I want. The plant ones.
There's some cacti, and a bonsai tree I'm keen on.
But I'm getting the full size orchid first. Have you got that one? They are so cute, and I'm a keen gardener with several orchids so it kind of justifies itself. I think? 🤣

I've got the orchid, it's lovely. Also (built) the two bouquets, the succulents and the dried flower centrepiece. Still to build I have the Plum Blossom, Chrysanthemum, Tiny plants, Poinsettia, and Bonsai.

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 27/12/2024 20:06

And yes, definitely justified!

Wrongsideofpennines · 27/12/2024 20:09

My husband hired me the Titanic set a few years ago. So I had the enjoyment of building it but not the extortionate cost or the huge space needed to display it.

BobbyBiscuits · 27/12/2024 20:11

@RenegadeKeeblerElf Right, you've just written my next Christmas list. Lol.
I'm going to get the orchid next pay day. I can't wait! There are lights you can get for them I think too? Would you care to share a couple pics of yours? X🥰

wsdr · 27/12/2024 20:12

I love the botanicals range.

I received the Wreath as a Christmas gift - nearly 1200 pieces to keep me busy over the next few days

I would but they're packed away at the moment to make way for Christmas decorations, sorry!

FeegleFrenzy · 27/12/2024 20:13

I’ve got the cacti and the bonsai tree. Also a bunch of flowers botanical set. A big Harry Potter castle. Quite a few old Christmas type theme sets.

Needmorelego · 27/12/2024 20:14

Welcome to the world of Lego.
Remember you don't have to spend £100s.
The Creator 3 in 1 sets that start from around £10 are just as good as the big £100+ sets.
New releases will be out in a few days on January 1st.
I also like City sets. There's a new much smaller Camper Van set that's on my want list.

I think I’m getting into building LEGO 😮
BobbyBiscuits · 27/12/2024 20:14

@RenegadeKeeblerElf Ahh, I'll let you off. Lol. I'm planning on keeping it out all year! 🤣 X

What an amazing looking subscription! Wow, I don't currently do any lego because I can't justify the cost or the space. But this is pretty tempting.

It was actually these guys I think. But postage is expensive and we are fairly local so could collect and return easily.

Luckily we only have tuxedo cats so it was perfect and she looks like my Jess who passed away last year . I will post up but it might be a while. I’m in awe that someone has already completed it !

JamesWebbSpaceTelescope · 27/12/2024 20:32

You don’t always need to get genuine Lego. I have this Non Lego flowers and they were as well made with good instructions, just cost less.

I love the space Lego and have nearly all of it now. I’m eying up the botanical gardens - now that is not cheap!

PlumpHobbit · 27/12/2024 20:35

We love them, we get the smaller sets for practicality as some are a bit too big, and its nice to have them on display after

We generally do the lego speed champions range, they're bringing out an f1 range in March, can't wait 😁

I got off amazon for DH birthday a Liverpool bus, it's like lego but not their brand. That bastarding thing took all of Xmas eve afternoon and early evening to build, the instructions were very vague (basically a picture of where the next layer of bricks went on the plan) and the pieces half the size of lego, plus they were just in random bags all together. I ended up on sorting duty, he built it, usually we share the stages

It does look really good, he just now needs to put it somewhere it won't get "catted"! There's a Manchester United one (my team) but wondering if I fancy the complexity all over again!
