I think I’m getting into building LEGO 😮

I bought an expensive (somewhere over £100) Lego Campervan set several years ago. I thought is was such an attractive thing, but never made it. Got it out over Christmas and have been building it together with my husband. It’s so satisfying 🙂 When we have finished, husband will fit it with lights, so we can use it as a lamp 😀

I had a look on the Lego website and it appears I have very expensive taste. The Orient Express is gorgeous, but £260! The Titanic is amazing and who couldn’t want it, but we couldn't justify £590 on a Lego set unless we had a large Premium Bond win.

Thankfully, I do quite like some of the botanicals and they now look really cheap! I’d love to hear from other Lego enthusiasts. . . . . . .

The Lego ideas site allows you to vote on possible new designs. Once they get over 10,000 votes Lego officially consider the idea for production.

I love these jellyfish so please vote for them as I would love to build them at some point. https://ideas.lego.com/projects/ee097824-bd3e-4d20-a6de-9a3e6e2dcc17

Oh they're cute! I don't even like jellyfish 🤣

I tried them but didn’t really get on with it. The sets aren’t new (obviously) so the pieces are all jumbled together rather than being in bags, and I got bored trying to sort through about 1000 pieces to find what I needed.

I get that. Plus, it strikes me that the cheapest membership being £14.50 a month, plus £5 PP is £240 ish a year. That is a good amount of Lego, some of which could raise money for other sets if sold on eBay.

Done! Some of the others look really good too. So I also voted on them.

What can I say. It's addictive . I was introduced after someone bought me the daffodils at Easter about 2 years ago . I must have sent about £2k on Lego by now .

I find the addictive element alarming due to the prices 😮

the Chrysanthemum, the Plum Blossom and the new Orchid is a lovely set, and the little pots they stand in have really interesting building techniques.

The Bonsai tree has 101 little pink frogs (if you build the cherry blossom version)

a lot of the new botanicals are lovely too

My favourite set, and most fun to build was the lighthouse.

I love the look of the lighthouse, but the cost is hard to justify 😮

I signed up for this and only hired 1 set. Obviously it's been used before so all the bits are together rather than in numbered bags. You have to take it all apart again at the end which left me frustrated and with no nails. The worst bit was picking people's hairs out of the pile of blocks 🤮 the idea is good thougj

Peoples hairs? Well if I wasn’t already thinking no, this is the clincher 🤮

i usually get Lego for Christmas - last year it was the Lighthouse. This year other smaller sets.

But i often buy my own, i remember when the van Gough Starry Night set came out i was in town with DH and a friend and i was all "ohhh i really want that one" and he made his fatal error "you are a grown woman who earns her own money"

And my fate was sealed (I like some of the art sets, so i have the Starry Night, the Milky Way and the Great Wave)

I just finished my orchid! Really pleased with it, did get given the lights kit for it as well so will try that and see if I like it

Morning all!
I think I'm a bit late to this party but I know fellow Lego people won't mind.
I recently joined Mumsnet and, obviously, my first search was "Lego"! I love Lego, build Lego and work in a toyshop that sells predominantly Lego.
May I join in please?

hattie43 · 09/03/2025 10:06

Oh definitely join in . The more the better .
