Brussel Sprouts - tell me how you’re cooking them!

I’m looking for some inspiration. I recall roasting them with chestnuts many moons ago but otherwise they remain fried in butter or boiled to their eventual death. How are you cooking yours?

I do a bacon and sprout gratin. With cream, lemon juice and breadcrumbs mixed with parmesan crust. It's the only way to eat sprouts, basically disguise them.

Unescorted · 24/12/2024 14:11

Roasted with onion and orange chutney.

YogaLite · 24/12/2024 14:11

With garlic, cream, nutmeg and sprinkling of cheese and ground pepper on top, on the hob

I cut them in half and roast them with olive oil, salt and pepper.

Usually saute with bacon and lots of garlic and butter, generous sprinkling of black pepper, delicious.

But this year I've gone rogue and have bought a brussel sprout and leek gratin from M&S as it's easy just to sling in the oven. We shall if it lives up to expectations!

Never, ever boil brussel sprouts, it's basically a crime against humanity.

LeftoverTurkeyPie · 24/12/2024 14:13

Part cooked then stir fried with lardons and chestnuts.

CandiedPrincess · 24/12/2024 14:13

I always make a gratin.

Svalberg · 24/12/2024 14:15

Quartered then stir fried with chilli

Edited

This will be my fourth year of having the M&S sprout gratin - it's so nice and I hate sprouts!

Ooh the gratin ideas sound delicious. I’ve just prepped a cauliflower cheese with double cream so it might be overkill but I’ll give that a go on New Years I think.

I’m in a bit of a bind with a house guest who doesn’t like garlic or any spice whatsoever, but sautéd or roasted with bacon sounds like an easier winner.

Halving, then parboiling, then fried off in butter and marmite.

comfyshoes2022 · 24/12/2024 14:22

Shaved in a salad. Otherwise simply roasted in olive oil, salt, and pepper is my go to

Roasted sprouts are elite.

mitogoshigg · 24/12/2024 14:25

Steam in the microwave, perfect every time - cooked but still a bite

visitbreakfast · 24/12/2024 14:25

I just steam mine, as plain as it gets!

IdgieThreadgoodeIsMyHeroine · 24/12/2024 14:39

Roasted with olive oil and honey.

Same. We all love them, so no need to fart about making them taste of something else! These recipes sound delicious, but not for Christmas dinner for us.

Bellaboot · 24/12/2024 14:43

I do plain boiled and honey soy roasted with butternut and then crumbled feta cheese.

TotteringonGently · 24/12/2024 14:45

In the food processor until minced basically, then fried with bacon. They taste quite different and totally delicious.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 24/12/2024 14:47

Mine aren't posh but we all like them. Sprouts into a takeaway tub with lid, knob of butter and some dried sage. 3 minutes in the microwave and they're green and delicious, perfect texture. Even my children like them.

I will read everyone else's recipes now and you'll put me to shame! Grin

RumNotRun · 24/12/2024 14:48

I mix them with olive oil and salt & pepper, then chuck them in the air fryer for 10-15 minutes. I usually add a garlic bulb halved horizontally as well.

Moier · 24/12/2024 14:54

Just steamed.. my favourite veg.. don't want them spoilt with other stuff so l can't taste them properly.

FrostyMorn · 24/12/2024 18:40

I really like them with miso and have just had some in a stir-fry with tofu. This is a good recipe too: minimalistbaker.com/miso-glazed-roasted-brussels-sprouts/

Same here, just steamed. I'm the only one in the house who likes them, so I don't feel the need to do anything fancy.
