Brussel Sprouts - tell me how you’re cooking them!

I’m looking for some inspiration. I recall roasting them with chestnuts many moons ago but otherwise they remain fried in butter or boiled to their eventual death. How are you cooking yours?

Jamie's Brussels in a hustle from his xmas book. So easy and delicious. Shredded with onion and Worcestershire sauce. Recipe is easily available

AnnaMagnani · 24/12/2024 18:55

For the first year ever I'm not cooking them at all.

Always had some token sprouts before but this year, I've just scrapped them.

Sophie Grigson’s sprout gratin. Can’t wait.

MoonlightMemories · 24/12/2024 18:58

Just plain steamed as well for me and covered in lots of gravy!

Doggymummar · 24/12/2024 19:01

Steam them in the microwave

UpToMyElbowsInDiapers · 24/12/2024 19:02

Halved, tossed in maple syrup and sea salt (thinned out with a bit of water and mild-tasting olive oil), then baked until sticky and crispy.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 24/12/2024 19:02

Steamed until they're luminous green, then coated in butter and sea salt.

Wolfpa · 24/12/2024 19:05

Shredded with bacon cooked in port

mathanxiety · 24/12/2024 19:09

Parboiled, then tossed onto a hot pan with butter, honey, and balsamic vinegar.

CordeliaNaismithVorkosigan · 24/12/2024 19:11

Parboiled and then cooked in butter with chestnuts. Can also add bacon or garlic but neither is essential.

RosesAndHellebores · 24/12/2024 19:18

Bearing in mind the following tastes and flavours are on the plate:

Turkey
Stuffing
Pigs
Cranberry
Bread sauce
Rich poultry gravy
Roast potatoes
Roast parsnips
Poultry gravy

I think the sprouts need no more than a gentle steam and a knob of butter. Alongside runner beans (the last picking of the summer from the freezer), simple oven baked thickly sliced Carrots (in a baking dish with one tbs water, salt and a squeeze of honey).

With bacon, shallotts, wholegrain mustard and creme fraiche. I like them and have them steamed at other times but this is a lovely recipe that's an essential part of Christmas Dinner for us (well, me and ds1 - ds2 only eats the Yorkshire pudding, peas, carrots, roasties, stuffing and pigs in blankets ).

Skethylita · 24/12/2024 19:25

Halved, parboiled for 2-3min until vivid green, then fried in butter with onion, bacon and garlic, then topped off with breadcrumbs, also fried in butter. It's a hit every time.

Rainbows89 · 24/12/2024 19:26

Lightly steamed here! Love them!

Scottishskifun · 24/12/2024 19:27

I put them in the air fryer then add chestnuts towards the end. No boiling in sight and they go really nutty.

NunyaBeeswax · 24/12/2024 19:27

Very simple.
Open them up,
Give a rinse
Put an x in the tops about 1/4th the way down.
Sprinkle a little sea salt on them
Pop them in the bin for about 4ever
Eat something nicer.

Easy

teatoast8 · 24/12/2024 19:30

With bacon and garlic

BurglarAndSwag · 24/12/2024 19:32

Cook 'em?
Eat 'em raw, like what I do.
Blows out the cobwebs and make no mistake.
And best leave yer windas open,
for the fresh air.
and moi, myself (chuckle, chuckle)

troppibambini6 · 24/12/2024 19:43

I've shredded mine, parboiled them then pan fried them with olive oil, chestnuts and pancetta. Lots of salt and black pepper.

One of my favourite bits of Xmas dinner!

Maddy70 · 24/12/2024 19:51

Just boiled. I do like them on boxing day fried with bacon

Ihatelittlefriendsusan · 24/12/2024 19:52

Steaming them.

I bloody love them as they are.

I appreciate I am in a minority of about 1%

BoobyDazzler · 24/12/2024 19:56

I’ll just be boiling mine for a few minutes so they are still crunchy. I do like them roasted and as a grattan but they’re my favourite vegetable by a mile so tomorrow they’ll just be as they are because I haven’t got the time to be faffing.

The kids just push them round their plates whatever I do 😂

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 24/12/2024 19:58

Lightly steam, then turn in bacon fat and roast briefly with bacon and chestnuts

BashfulClam · 24/12/2024 20:11

They are disgusting so I won’t eat them but I will make them for DM as she likes them and has dementia so she’s having anything she likes while she still knows a little bit of what’s going on. As per her liking I’ll boil satan bogies for around 8 hours till they are mush.
