What do you have in your Christmas dinner?

Growing up we had turkey, rice, peas, corn and carrots, mashed and roast potatoes, Brussel sprouts and asparagus. Living abroad I've had lamb, soup, and a hog roast.

Now I'm much more traditional and will do turkey, roast potatoes, Brussel sprouts, red cabbage, carrots, parsnips,Yorkshire puddings and pigs in blankets. Never tried bread sauce or cauliflower cheese even though they are a staple in most homes on Christmas. What is your ideal Christmas dinner?

Chicken, red cabbage, roasted carrots, parsnips, roast potatoes, yorkshires maybe a carrot and swede mash / green beans or broccoli - lots of gravy & of course stuffing!

Simple but lovely.

Katy232425 · 23/12/2024 20:46

We’re having roast chicken with sage and onion stuffing, sausages in bacon, roast potatoes, parsnips, carrots, sprouts, corn and gravy. DH will add cranberry sauce to his.

The kids will eat a mouthful of chicken, half a potato, a spoonful of corn and call themselves full before immediately asking for more chocolate.

Turkey, pigs in blankets, roast potatoes, homemade cauliflower cheese, stuffing, honey roasted parnsnips, carrots. I would have liked red cabbage but couldn't get any and I would also like a Yorkshire pudding but Dh said they don't belong on a Christmas dinner.

Followed by Yule log and a cheeseboard.

Oh and sprouts, how could I forget.

sprigatito · 23/12/2024 20:51

Turkey, venison, pigs in blankets, roast potatoes, carrot and swede mash, parsnips, sprouts, stuffing balls, gravy, cranberry sauce for the turkey and redcurrant jelly for the venison. We have never done Yorkshire puddings or cauliflower cheese, we don't like bread sauce and DH doesn't like red cabbage so we don't bother with it. Pudding is Christmas pud with brandy butter and double cream, then coffee and mints (and assorted Turkish delight which is a family tradition). I can hardly wait!

whirlyhead · 23/12/2024 20:51

Fish fingers, chips, eggs and peas. My perfect Christmas lunch!

though I do love sprouts but sadly they don’t go with the above.

Fairly simple (less faff for the cook). Turkey, loads of roast potatoes, roast parsnips, lots of pigs in blankets, stuffing, carrots and sprouts, cranberry sauce, plenty of proper gravy, made in the roasting tin.

Starters are cheese fondue with slow proved bread that's already in the fridge.

Jobs a good in unless I panic TM and go mad and buy more of everything 🤣

Maybe this is sad but a traditional cheistmas dinner doesn’t appeal to me so I’m having one of the foods I would usually eat, mac and cheese cheese

That's not sad, when I've been alone I just make my favourite food.

One year I had really posh sandwiches!
