Oh - looks like it was only me who suddenly remembered this morning then!

No massive turkey to defrost this year but thanks for the warning!

good luck with it 🦃

K0OLA1D · 23/12/2024 10:41

Yes it is! First time I've done it. It's a big 8-10 people crown. Does it need out today?

Xag · 23/12/2024 10:43

How to defrost a turkey | Thawing times | Waitrose & Partners

You probably need to defrost about a day earlier than you first think of - especially as a thawed turkey is perfectly safe in the fridge for a day or two before cooking.

eklaljdj · 23/12/2024 10:49

I decided to go for fresh this year after seeing them on the shelves last Christmas for the same price as my smaller frozen one, but I'm now paranoid I'm going to have one of the grey gone off ones 🙈

ShortyShorts · 23/12/2024 10:50

No, fresh turkey crown here.

I could do with a reminder to take the pigs in blankets out of the freezer tomorrow though 😁🐖

teablanket · 23/12/2024 10:55

Thank you so much for the reminder! Just averted a Christmas crisis 😂

Notyetthere · 23/12/2024 10:55

I got mine out of the freezer last night. Still frozen solid in the fridge. I think I will take it out altogether and leave it on the side to Defrost. Pigs in blankets are still in the freezer. I will take those out tomorrow.

K0OLA1D · 23/12/2024 11:06

I always cook my pigs in blankets from frozen

I'm going to get it out now and then put in the fridge later! Thanks op

Yes. They take a surprisingly long time to thaw.

Pigs in blankets can be cooked straight from frozen if you put them in at the same time as the spuds.

Grin

No frozen turkey here but we did just find last year's leftover soup.

PoorUncleBarry · 23/12/2024 11:08

I set my alarm for 7.30am this morning 😎 Not my turkey though, it's mums. She would kill me if I tried cooking Christmas dinner.

slightlydistrac · 23/12/2024 11:09

@BarbaraHoward 😂😂

ExquisiteDecorations · 23/12/2024 11:12

Took it out last night. I must remember to get the gravy and pigs in blankets out though.

K0OLA1D · 23/12/2024 11:14

Its out!

I'm going to leave it on the side, transfer to the fridge tonight and then see where we are in the morning

K0OLA1D · 23/12/2024 11:15

Me and my youngest don't eat meat so our quorn roast is just throw in the air fryer 40 mins before I need it!

AdoraBell · 23/12/2024 11:15

Not the turkey, I don’t have space for a frozen turkey, but pigs in blankets and the stuffing I made are still in there.

SensibleSigma · 23/12/2024 11:16

I thought speed defrosting the turkey was part of the tradition?

I’m also hoping for a fresh off the shelf one, @eklaljdj, and also getting twitchy about it! I’ve been eying up the cook from frozen Iceland joints, in case I fail at shopping!

I leave the cooking to DH but he normally defrosts them and cooks them in the air fryer.

Peridot1 · 23/12/2024 11:19

We have just taken the ham out to defrost before cooking it tomorrow.

picked up our fresh turkey crown from Waitrose and it’s a lot smaller than I was expecting. Might end up buying another one.

DH is supposed to be making pigs in blankets over last few days to freeze but he hasn’t gotten around to it yet.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 23/12/2024 11:20

I get a turkey crown with stuffing delivered from the butcher, it's coming today (at least it should come today). I've done the same for the last couple of years and it's much easier than having to go and pick it up from the butcher.

I cook them from frozen in the air fryer too!

Oh, you mean the Turkey in the Bath at 8am on Christmas Morning scenario?!

LeftTheWashingOut · 23/12/2024 11:28

Yes came out this morning. 8-10 person crown here too but I remember following the instructions on the label (36hrs) last year and it was still very much frozen on Christmas morning 😅
