Ahh man! 🤦‍♀️

(Slinks off to the freezer to take the turkey out!! 😬)

allthemiddlechildrenoftheworld · 23/12/2024 11:34

@slightlydistrac the only thing organised is the christmas meat!! all cooked, sliced in a roasting pan and gravy already in it, all in the freezer, to come out tomorrow afternoon!!

Fedupandstressed · 23/12/2024 11:55

I forgot about mine. DH has gone to a funeral and I'm in Rotterdam with ds. Back at around 10 tonight, so hopefully a few hours won't make much of a difference.

I meant to ask DH to pop in the fridge but just saw him leaving on the Ring. D'oh.

@slightlydistrac we started a new game one year, when mum had a health emergency and was unexpectedly carted off to hospital. Dad and I played ‘hunt the turkey’. We knew it had been collected, but it wasn’t in the bath, the garage or the fridge…

Was it in the oven?

Mine is massive - said to defrost in fridge for 106 hours!
Luckily my MIL has an empty fridge so it went to stay there on Friday night!! Going to claim it back later today to see how it's doing 😁

slightlydistrac · 23/12/2024 12:08

@Seeline It helps if you turn it upside-down for a few hours, and to take out the giblets the instant you can get the frozen lump out of the cavity.

Thank you OP 🙏 Merry Christmas!

AllTheChaos · 23/12/2024 12:11

Go for goose instead! Much nicer and more traditional!

NotThisOldChestnutAgain · 23/12/2024 12:14

Fresh turkey all the way then no need to worry! Bought a Chesham Bronze from Aldi on Friday, good till 26th, easy as pie, no need to pre order.

PrettyFlyforaMaiTai · 23/12/2024 12:17

Thank you! You just saved Christmas in the Mai Tai household 🤣🤦🏼‍♀️

LadyWiddiothethird · 23/12/2024 12:21

I am 76 and have never had a frozen Turkey before........ever.I was horrified to read it takes 60hours to defrost in the fridge,I moved it freezer to fridge last night.
Google has convinced me I am going to give everyone food poisoning,it says you can’t just leave them to defrost on a work surface, beginning to wish I had kept the 2 fresh ones I ordered with my online order,I sent them back!

Enterthedragonqueen · 23/12/2024 12:25

I've reminded my sil to take hers out of the freezer. Thanks OP

slightlydistrac · 23/12/2024 10:40

Oh - looks like it was only me who suddenly remembered this morning then!

I dug it out and read the defrost instructions after putting the lamb in the slow cooker. Tomorrow it needs to come out. So suspect it's best coming out tonight

MainStreetOrHighStreet · 23/12/2024 12:38

We're out and defrosting in our house.

I’m picking up my fresh one tomorrow, but may I just say that this PSA was a heartwarming read. Merry Christmas! 🎄

RedToothBrush · 23/12/2024 12:42

Public service announcement if you read this tomorrow.

Don't do turkey next year. It's a pain in the arse.

😂I wasn't going to do turkey this year, but the family looked aghast at the news so I relented. Breaking with tradition on Boxing Day though, we're having salmon, couscous & salad etc instead of another roast.

Thank god for cook, they send a text saying don't forget and I'd said to my husband it's 24 hours... it's not it's 48!!

Phew 😅 I've just told him out on the side today then fridge tomorrow to make sure it's fully defrosted.. assuming that's better information.

Hortonhearsawhat · 23/12/2024 13:16

Turkey is defrosting, but the sausage meat for the Christmas eve sausage rolls was still in the freezer. Thanks OP it's now in the fridge.

@Hortonhearsawhat thank you - my sausagemeat is now out of the freezer too. I mix in chopped apricots and chestnuts....

<skulks off to get chestnuts out of freezer and hopes no-one will notice> Blush

Last year I had a huge Iceland turkey in the freezer & mistakenly thought it only needed 24 hours to defrost. It was 48! So DH had a last minute dash to Asda & got the very last, VERY expensive Norfolk Bronze Turkey crown! It was absolutely delicious. We ended up having the original bird at Easter!

slightlydistrac · 23/12/2024 13:53

I have a large turkey-shaped space in my freezer drawer, and I'm wondering what to fill it with.
