I'm just drinking my first cuppa, in my kitchen spot, with girl kitten loafed at my feet. She's not as snuggly as boy kitten so this is as good as it gets & she's purring away happily. He's sulking after his trip to the vet yesterday to be neutered & has vanished upstairs after breakfast.

I'm off up to get sorted for my nail appointment shortly. No idea what I want yet - maybe just red 🤔. After that I'm off to finish off my Christmas shopping, alone! I'm really looking forward to it 🎅

Dd2's off to do some shopping with her dad, for my gifts. They'll probably stop off for lunch somewhere. And dd1's spending the day getting ready for a friend's 18th birthday party.

Later on, I'll ice my dad's Christmas cake while cooking tea. That'll probably be frozen pizzas chucked in the oven. Then relax in front of the tv for a while, before I have an early night 💤

What about all of you? 🎄

Morning 😊

We've got DS2s last swimming lesson of the term then are braving ASDA with DM to do the big Christmas food shop. My parents ate making the main course and I am making a starter and pudding.

General tidying and entertaining the DC for the rest of the day and then I need to so some baking in the evening.

Crunchymum · 21/12/2024 08:54

Morning lucysmam happy almost Christmas to you!!

We had a busy day yesterday (Sky Garden, Tower of London, walk around the Christmas Market on South Bank, late lunch / early dinner in The Real Greek) so today is a day of rest and chores.

We all have a list and we'll be working through it. Although the older kids are watching Disenchantment and eating pan au chocolat's at the moment.

Have a massive Sainsburys shop coming soon (also have another one on Tuesday which is just the Christmas food!) so I'll batch cook a few things later. I've had a request for lasagne for dinner and we are going to make our own sausage rolls.

We plan to make our gingerbread bread this afternoon and we'll probably take a canal walk at some point. It's quite wet and chilly here so we'll see if the weather improves.

First wash on, second cuppa brewed and I'm going to bung some croissants in the oven for my breakfast soon.

IDontLikePinaColadas · 21/12/2024 08:54

Morning! I’m currently having a cuppa in bed before heading to the dump and then off to the supermarket to grabs a few bits to get ahead for Christmas Day - I’m on canapé duty this year….

georgepigg · 21/12/2024 08:55

Got tickets booked for local Christmas musical which looks reeeeeally good but the boys (7&9) have said they’re not going which has instantly pissed me off. They will go because we’re taking DD and plus they always end up enjoying these things. But I feel depressed that the magical Christmasses with young kids are coming to an end - they got wind from school that Santa doesn’t exist - and I feel like I never managed to make magical Christmas memories and traditions with them, and now it’s all over 😭 it goes so fast - they don’t really get it until age 2/3, and then that’s only 5 years until they’re wise, and along with Covid and then living on a building site, 2 of those 5 christmasses were not magical, so waaaaaah! 😭

So, today I’m dealing with those emotions mainly 😅

Need to pop for sainos for consumables for their frigging massive stockings (not my choice). Going to have to lose them for next year and get smaller ones I think as they’re impossible to fill!!

RabbitsRock · 21/12/2024 08:55

Good morning @lucysmam & everyone - had a cuppa in bed & now waiting for DH to finish in the bathroom so I can have a shower & wash my hair. DD16 needs to parcel up some clothes we’ve sold on Vinted. Only put them on yesterday so I’m really impressed (Vinted virgin!) Not going to make a fortune but some of the stuff has been taking up space for ages so I’ll be glad to get rid. Working at 12 which I’m not particularly looking forward to as it’s likely to be mental! Easy tea planned of Greggs festive bakes, double cream mash & petitpois. I’ll peel the spuds this morning if I can be bothered. There’s a load of washing to go on & the dishwasher needs doing as per. I really need to clear the kitchen table but not sure whether it will be today. Have a lovely pre - Christmas Saturday everyone 🎄🎄🎄

PermanentTemporary · 21/12/2024 08:58

Good morning all! I woke early and had a cuddle with dp (not a euphemism) followed by an hour's work and am now in the hairdresser as I decided I'd rather not look like a lopsided haystack all through Christmas. Then will walk to see my mum in her nursing home, my hairdresser's is really close by, and what I hope will be my last Christmas shopping. A neighbours party later and maybe a musical in the evening on telly.

Eggsley · 21/12/2024 09:02

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone else!

Currently on the sofa under the dog, who has come up for a cuddle. He's quite big but thinks he's a tiny pup.

Football called off here so DH, DS2 and I are heading to the nearest city shopping centre to pick up the last few presents. DS1 is sleeping in.

I've got some wrapping to do this afternoon and we are doing a couple of escape rooms tonight for a friend's birthday. DSs are staying overnight at my parents so not sure what's for dinner yet as they might eat there.

It's wet and windy here so I'm glad football has been cancelled! Just need to get up and head out before I doze off! Hope everyone has a lovely day.

lucysmam · 21/12/2024 09:02

@PermanentTemporary lopsided haystack closely describes the mop on top of my head at the moment 🤣 I've had a single cut since chemo, and hated it, so now I just leave it to its own devices & channel my inner mad scientist 🙈

@Crunchymum Merry nearly Christmas to you too! Gingerbread day is tomorrow for us but I've bought an ikea kit this year.

@RabbitsRock we've not made a fortune on Vinted either - £300 ish over the year. But it paid for 3x Taylor merch, in summer. And the travel/food at the Christmas market. So enough for some treats 😊

Crunchymum · 21/12/2024 09:04

@lucysmam we splashed out on an M&S kit so we'll have to compare 😂

I'll post a picture later.

Dr13Hadley · 21/12/2024 09:04

Morning all!

I've been to Aldi at 7am to get my Xmas desserts and now back home in the warm and dry enjoying a coffee.
DH and our two DSs are going to a footy tournament later if it's not cancelled due to the weather. I'm hoping it's on so I can get a bit of peace and quiet 🤣
I'm just going to potter around the house and do some token tidying while trying not to eat the Christmas goodies.
Dcat is finding ever more ingenious hiding places as the DCs keep threatening to put her Xmas jumper on her.

babbi · 21/12/2024 09:05

Just thinking about getting up after a heavy night out partying 🙈
I am hosting tonight for a crowd and almost regretting how sociable I am … my next free day is 4th Jan 🙄
I always sign up for everything sociable and wonder why I’m exhausted 😩

I have decided to start dry January today though so that will help with my energy levels!!!

Have a great day all .

twistyizzy · 21/12/2024 09:07

Getting new carpets fitted in front room + our bedroom after 3 months of building work. I now stand a chance of getting the house in a semi decent condition by Xmas although we have no chairs/seating 😆

JMAngel1 · 21/12/2024 09:17

Morning everyoneBack I’m bed with a cappuccino reading Christmas Chronicles - I’m very behind on it as had a very hectic work week.

Plan for today is to wrap presents for DH and maybe make a start on DD1 wrapping (hard to do when she’s around).

Then I want to clean out the porch as it’s full of dead leaves and put up some branches either side of the door with fairy lights on.

Then going to go to a nice village nearby to get a coffee and feel
Xmas vibes with DDs. Then visit my Dad.

Back home for pizza and a Xmas film.

Have a lovely day everyone - enjoy your nails @lucysmam

brbg2g · 21/12/2024 09:17

Good morning all.

Kids finished up school yesterday and we all need a rest after a busy few weeks. There was something on every other day at least, every day this week and we are all exhausted. It's also raining sideways outside and windy so we will be staying in and having a cosy relaxing day.

We'll make some biscuits later on and I am going to make some soup for lunch after picking up some 8p veg yesterday from Asda.

We have some Christmassy craft kits I will pull out later for the younger two and if the weather settles we may go a walk later but the forecast looks stormy for the whole day so we will see.

Christmas movies will be on too. We've still to watch Christmas Chronicles and Polar Express this year.

HM pizza for tea. Have a great day everyone.

itsallbowlsbaby · 21/12/2024 09:27

We're all going to a local swimming pool for a festive swim with Christmas music and floats, then DH is out with a friend this afternoon so DS and I will walk the dog and get DH his Christmas beers. Then it has been decided it's pizza for tea and watching Uncle Buck 😂

Giggorata · 21/12/2024 09:34

Good morning, lucysmam and all!
I am contemplating getting up for tea, after which I have some laundry waiting and general housework.
I am driving again now post surgery (freeeeeedom!) and plan to nip out later and drop a few things off at the charity shop. DH is delivering the village Christmas cards this afternoon, and will probably end up in the pub.
He made vegetable soup yesterday, so we're having that with some nice bread for brunch.
I will knock up a cheese and onion quiche to take to the coven, where we are celebrating the Solstice tonight.
Wassail, everyone! 🌞🍻

SauvignonBlonk · 21/12/2024 09:35

Morning all. Broke up for Christmas yesterday and I’m really tired so will spend lots of today flopped on the sofa.
Need to take Ddog out in the rain this morning, got Tesco coming this afternoon - logged in yesterday and was shocked to see new delivery slots available, was dreading having to go into the store.
Am out tonight to hear my godmother singing in her choir - nicely festive.

WhatWouldHopperDo · 21/12/2024 09:41

Morning @lucysmam

Ive had a fraught 24 hours thinking my Mum was more unwell than she is. We’ve just had reasonably good news about test results so I feel I can relax a bit and enjoy my day.

DH is dropping me into town. I love a final mooch round before Christmas. No pressure as there isn’t anything essential I need just a few stocking fillers for adult DCs and whatever else I find. I’ll get the bus home as DH is on a mission with some decluttering and I don’t want to distract him!

Dad is coming over for tea and mince pies this afternoon.

I think it will be some sort of pasta for dinner and a Christmas film.

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 21/12/2024 09:41

Good morning Lucysmam and others. I'm heading out shortly for second breakfast with a friend. Then home to wrap the rest of the presents. Meatballs for dinner later.

Jellycatspyjamas · 21/12/2024 09:41

I’ve had a coffee and taken the dog out in the stormy rain - then chased him round the house trying to get him dry. I’m doing my pre-Christmas deep clean today so bracing myself. Got a big Tesco order coming this afternoon so want to sort the kitchen cupboards and give the fridge a good clean before it arrives.

mamaduckbone · 21/12/2024 10:01

Good morning @lucysmam and mumsnet!
I'm drinking coffee after my morning run. Finished work yesterday so finally feeling quite cheery and festive.
I'm baking today - mince pies, gingerbread, rocky road and I need to ice the Christmas cake.

Ds2 has just headed out to do an hour volunteering then he's meeting his gf. I'll head into town later with him to get some ingredients for his annual chocolate making for the grandparents, and one or two last minute presents.

Dh is at work so when he gets home we'll light the fire and either watch a film or the new Strike, depending on whether ds2 is downstairs with us or up in his room gaming. Ds1 has been away with his gf and will be back at some point but is out with his mates tonight as everyone is back from uni so this is the big night out for them.

RestYeMerryGentlewomen · 21/12/2024 10:04

I did my final Christmas shop at 7.45 today. I live a mile from the centre of my town. The queue was past the end of my road to get in to town by the time I turned in to my road at 9 having whizzed round.

DS and I are popping out later and then watching a film. DH returns with MIL tomorrow so DS and I are also doing a final clean. He broke up with his GF a week ago. His first real relationship, he is 23. He seems ok now though we had tears last week. We returned her gifts last night. So I’m £100 better off. His mates have been brilliant and it’s good to see a man that can talk about feelings and admit his mistakes whilst also pointing hers out.

daffodilandtulip · 21/12/2024 10:29

Day one of 16 days off work, I was last off in Sept but we were away, so I am absolutely relishing the prospect of no plans for a couple of weeks.

DD is back from uni, DS is GCSE year - so they also want two weeks of no plans. Perfect.

We've done all the lights, NT, shows etc over the years, which I've loved, but I am really looking forward to not doing it! Films, books, dog walks, fire, nice food. Yes please.

Decafflatteplease · 21/12/2024 10:32

Good morning @lucysmam hope you are well!

It's one of my favourite days of the year the first day of the holidays and it stretches out before us. I was up early as always on the solstice to watch the solstice at Stonehenge on BBC news id love to go one day!

We are meeting family this afternoon at a cafe for cakes and then a walk.

Pizza for dinner then a bottle glass of Bailey's!

iloveeverykindofcat · 21/12/2024 10:38

Visiting a friend for an Xmas get together whilst monitoring updates from my mum whose dog had emergency surgery last night.....because he ate a rock. I'm serious. We knew he wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed, but damn.

Anyway the rock has been successfully removed, and he's awake, vet just needs to see him successfully eat something before he can come home. He hasn't eaten yet but is still rather drugged, so hopefully once the heavy meds wear off he will.
