I have attended many Christmas markets over the years. They are so crowded especially at the moment as German children finished school for the Christmas holidays. Frightening, my prayers are with all the victim's šŸ™

Because Germany is a predominantly Christian country. Just as people describe people from Middle Eastern countries as Muslims, so people from Germany can be described as Christians, surely? 'Muslim' is not a race. Nor is Christianity. But this Christmas market was party of the run up to the Christian Festival of Christmas. That's why feelings are heightened. It would be like a person of European heritage driving into a crowd in Turkey during Eid. What would people think?

Was 9/11 an attack on Christians?

Or are you saying that the fact it took place at a Christmas market the reason it was an attack on Christians?

I wonder how many Christians think it was an attack on Christians?
Or they think it was an attack on Germans.

1dayatatime · 21/12/2024 19:51

@cakeorwine

"Why do you not think it was a deliberate attack on a crowded place full of Germans guaranteed to target Germany?"

Yes I would absolutely agree with this statement - it was an attack on a crowd of predominantly Germans just as it was an attack on predominantly Christians. The two statements can be equally correct.

Whether his motive was against Germans, Christians or Gluhwein drinkers or all three will never be known, but the majority of his victims were.

BelleHathor · 21/12/2024 19:55

The perpetrator was Anti Muslim and Anti Christian too, hence why he attacked a Christmas market in a largely secular country.

His twitter account even contained the wish that Angela Merkel was sentenced to the death penalty for allowing mass immigration.

He followed/praised Geert Wilders, Marie Le Pen, Tommy Robinson etc.

Luckily whilst the usual sorts were trying to exploit the tragedy to whip up hatred, others were archiving his posts.

The below is a post (from his alleged twitter account) that repeats the extremely offensive and Anti Christian idea that Jesus was the result of Mary having an affair.

Precisely.

CinnamonClovesBrownVelvet · 21/12/2024 19:58

In my early years I was aware of the IRA I can't remember how many attacks but I remember one at harrods?

Since then I was going aware of any threat until 9/11 and Al queda and isis?

CinnamonClovesBrownVelvet · 21/12/2024 19:59

He should never have been allowed to take residence in Germany he's clearly not stable

YourAmplePlumPoster · 21/12/2024 19:59

This is why i am not buying far right, anti Islamist attack. Why an iconic Christmas festival in a very Christian town? Do they think we're stupid?

selffellatingouroborosofhate · 21/12/2024 19:59

dcbgr · 21/12/2024 15:03

Can I correct that to mentally-ill immigrant terrorism? Maybe we should try and address the problem of mentally-ill immigrants?

What proportion of these atrocities are committed by women?

We need to address the problem of men being violent.

CinnamonClovesBrownVelvet · 21/12/2024 20:02

@selffellatingouroborosofhate very very true.

And the women are left behind in supposedly awful countries.

Yep a nutter. And offensive and dumb.

Hope he has a nice time in prison or better still gets sent back to Saudi Arabia to face justice. He deserves the death penalty.

YourAmplePlumPoster · 21/12/2024 20:03

He could have driven into some other celebration but chose this one. Too uncomplicated.

Havalona · 21/12/2024 20:07

Was the attack designed to increase afd support ahead of the upcoming German election?

Immigrant attacks public and kills and injures many. Public response - immigrants are bad news. Afd support increases.

The MH reason is handy right now.

coldcallerbaiter · 21/12/2024 20:08

Well the first 6 letters are the same for Christmas and Christianity. But whilst the deniers keep your conversations debating it, they have diverted your attention away.

BloodandGlitter · 21/12/2024 20:10

Some of you look really dumb falling all over yourself to make this a evil islamic brown man vs good white christians issue.

To be fair the AFD have gained massive support in Germany . They would never do this, no EU political group would right or left...

Edited

Look at the perp's twitter bio. He was angry about how Saudi women were treated in and by Germany.

But then killed German women and children. Because, y'know, that will somehow help Saudi women.

Oh fgs, you're the only person who has brought in the labels of good/bad and brown/white.

I wasnt suggesting that Afd orchestrated this atrocity, but that the perpetrator did, with the intentions I mentioned as a Lone Wolf.

You are far too trusting and very forgetful. Sinn Fein are a political party who until very recently had the IRA as their paramilitary wing. The loyalist parties in NI likewise had paramilitaries.

jasjas3008 · 21/12/2024 20:26

Not read all the thread but isn't it perfectly plausible he was always an Islamist and the tweets and posts etc were a cover?

Either way, its an awful incident and my heart goes out to the victims and their families.

YourAmplePlumPoster · 21/12/2024 20:31

Just wondering why posters are denying attacks on secular and Christian or perceived Christian targets which are happening all the time. Samuel Paty: beheaded in France for showing images of the Prophet Mohammed. Batley school teacher in hiding to this day for showing images of the Prophet Mohammed in class. Most importantly in this case, a market celebrating the birth of Christ attacked which is not the first market attacked. It's not like it's a one off that's absolutely jaw dropping.

YourAmplePlumPoster · 21/12/2024 21:06

In addition, WTF should European countries who provide asylum to refugees be treated to such barbarity in return for their generosity? And have people sniping at them about their perceived "racism."

mollyfolk · 21/12/2024 21:11

@Nousernamesleftatall

In Dublin , Ireland The Christmas lights are alive and well . They refer to the Christmas lights that are put up all around the city, I don't recall their ever being a ceremony - just a switch on

The winter lights is a different initiative whereby they put light projections on 18 iconic buildings.

www.irishtimes.com/ireland/dublin/2024/11/14/dublin-christmas-lights-switch-on-as-traders-nervously-optimistic-about-business/

Are you even Irish or did you read this misinformation somewhere?

Treetops11 · 21/12/2024 21:14

@yourampleplumposter I'm wondering why Saudis are allowed refugee status? I don't think there is any major war going on in Saudi & hadn't been for many years..

In fact loads of British move to Saudi for work & called themselves expats... yet how can a doctor move to Europe from Saudi & call himself a refugee? Somethings not quite adding up.
