What do you do?

Presents before school or after school?

Seems bit mean to make him wait all day but mornings are a scramble!

Definitely after

Gettoachiro · 04/12/2024 14:42

Afterwards every single time.

Comedycook · 04/12/2024 14:43

We've always done presents in the morning. My dc have been more than happy to wake up slightly earlier to facilitate that 😂

Ohhh we do before 100% I would never make them wait until after 😂

After

CircleofWillis · 04/12/2024 14:43

One morning present and the rest after school with cake and candles.

Sherrystrull · 04/12/2024 14:44

We get up a bit earlier, open a couple and leave the rest until after school. Works for us. Apart from one dc who always has their birthday in the holidays!

MigAndMog · 04/12/2024 14:44

Ask him what he would like to do. Mine were up early enough to do presents before breakfast. If there is something he would really not want to be torn away from once opened, then suggest a couple of things before school and main presents after.

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 04/12/2024 14:44

We normally do 1 present before school and the rest after.

SquigglePigs · 04/12/2024 14:44

It's DD's 6th birthday today. We did presents before school. It seemed mean to make her wait all day.

She was up and dressed quickly though so we had time. If it had been too tight I'd have let her open some, and do the rest tonight.

Also she's got friends coming for tea tonight so morning worked better all round.

Tallyho15 · 04/12/2024 14:45

Everyone up half an hour earlier than normal for presents before school. Cake etc after

Dracarys1 · 04/12/2024 14:47

We get up slightly earlier, breakfast in bed for birthday child, presents from mummy and daddy in morning, presents from extended family after school with family tea party and cake x

Spirallingdownwards · 04/12/2024 14:47

Before.

DazedAndConfused321 · 04/12/2024 14:47

Half in the morning, half after school. Nice breakfast before and cake after. Gives them something to think about all day.

Feeltoooldtostudybutdoingitanyway · 04/12/2024 14:50

Mine always got up early on birthdays, present from parents & siblings in the morning, then ones that arrive in the post from relatives after school.

MonsieurBlobby · 04/12/2024 14:50

We do a couple first thing, then more if there's time once we're all completely ready, then the rest with a birthday tea after school. They actually love it being a school day on their bday! Weird! If they're young-ish get them a birthday badge to wear at school that day 🙂

Ellerby83 · 04/12/2024 15:06

Before.

Latenightreader · 04/12/2024 15:09

We had this for the first time this year. Presents were opened before school, but it ended up being over in a rush so next time we'll do some before and I'll save some for later too.

Brighteyedtriangle · 04/12/2024 15:10

Absolutely before. My child needs to be dragged out of bed on the daily but she's up in a shot on her birthday

sunshineandshowers40 · 04/12/2024 15:12

We always did them in the morning. Although DC2's birthday is always in the summer holidays and DC1's is sometimes in half term.

Mill3nnial · 04/12/2024 15:14

I'd do before as well

If you've got a few (more than about 4) you could just give him some in the morning and then save some for after school, that way he gets to open some, doesn't have to know he's waiting for others and still has something to open when he gets back

mindutopia · 04/12/2024 15:15

We always decorate the kitchen so they come down to balloons and a banner and a badge and I’ll make them a special breakfast if they want it.

Then it’s a special dinner of their choosing and presents and cake after. Obviously they’d have to wait til late afternoon/evening even if their birthday was on a weekend too, because that’s when they’d have a party and we wouldn’t do presents til we got home towards dinner/after anyway.

Seems a bit anti-climactic for all presents to be done by 8am, especially if that’s the big thing to look forward to that day.

ICarriedTheWatermelon · 04/12/2024 15:16

Presents in the morning here. Then presents off other families members when they get home.

Nothing motivates a child to get ready fast like knowing they have presents to open if they hurry up. Might as well take advantage of that perk once a year!

Elphamouche · 04/12/2024 15:17

Presents in the morning!!!

scrivette · 04/12/2024 15:18

Presents in the morning - with a few left for after school.
