What do you do?

Presents before school or after school?

Seems bit mean to make him wait all day but mornings are a scramble!

A couple with breakfast - plus icecream for birthday breakfast. And the rest afterwards.

Groovee · 04/12/2024 15:25

Always done them in the morning with a birthday breakfast.

Cake for breakfast gifts after school

RosieBurdock · 04/12/2024 15:27

We did morning. It's nice for them to be able to answer if anyone asks what they got.

LadyLolaRuben · 04/12/2024 15:30

Its a bit of a dull start to a special day not to be allowed to open cards and presents

allthemiddlechildrenoftheworld · 04/12/2024 15:30

@@DingDoong just get up an hour earlier!!!!

ThereIsALifeOutThere · 04/12/2024 15:32

We did mornings.
It doesn’t take that long to open presents!

MrDarlingtonsPie · 04/12/2024 15:34

Be super organised the night before and then get up a bit earlier to do presents so they get a bit of time before school. I would take annual leave on their birthdays when they were young if possible so I could run around and make the day a bit more special for them, usually do a meal and cake with friends / relatives after school so they get other bits then.

Sanch1 · 04/12/2024 15:34

Before! Not surprisingly my kids always seem to be able to get up on time on their birthdays!

BearBuggy · 04/12/2024 15:43

Always morning. Seems mean to wait

GroovyChick87 · 04/12/2024 15:47

Before school. We just get up a bit earlier.

One morning present and the rest after school with cake and candles.

Same.

SoupDragon · 04/12/2024 15:48

We did cards before school, presents after dinner followed by cake.

TBH, they get used to whatever you make the Norm.

NobleWashedLinen · 04/12/2024 15:50

We always do birthdays before breakfast. No one minds waking up a bit early. We're a small family and there's never more than 6 gifts to unwrap so it never takes long.

poppymango · 04/12/2024 15:56

After.

Birthday card and a special breakfast in the morning (bacon & eggs or french toast or pop tarts or whatever they want - possibly with a candle in it!)

When they come home from school, tea and cake, lots of presents, call granny etc.

Party with school friends on the weekend.

Pascha · 04/12/2024 16:06

Cake for breakfast, presents after school.

brbg2g · 04/12/2024 16:08

Before but I hold a couple back as a surprise for after to keep the excitement going.

Talipesmum · 04/12/2024 16:10

One or two before, and some cards, then the rest after school and birthday tea and cake. It would be too rushed for us to do them all before school, and it’s nice to have some to look forward to after school too. Good to give them something before school that they can say “I got x for my birthday!” to friends if asked.

Sassybooklover · 04/12/2024 16:10

I wake my son up a little earlier, and he opens his presents in the morning, whilst my husband makes him a special breakfast!

Thetheorysection · 04/12/2024 16:13

A nice breakfast is always the priority - whatever they want. We once had marshmallow fluff on toast! Almost always fresh pineapple or mango (ready chopped for ease). Then one present before school, and the rest after school.

WanderingLonelyCloud · 04/12/2024 16:15

We fit in presents and eating cake before school!

Superworm24 · 04/12/2024 16:16

Maybe one in the morning with a special breakfast and the rest for later?

Openwardrobe · 04/12/2024 16:19

We always did them before - laid the table nicely for breakfast - with the presents in the middle - and got the children up a bit earlier than usual. It was quite an effort (for me!), but I couldn’t imagine making them wait all day!
