What do you do?

Presents before school or after school?

Seems bit mean to make him wait all day but mornings are a scramble!

One morning present and the rest after school with cake and candles.

Yes, this. One of his really-wanted prezzies in the morning. Then party or family, cake and candles after.

We’ve always done them in the morning before we start getting ready

Redcrayons · 04/12/2024 18:40

Before, but only once they’re ready for school.

Before. Everyone up an hour earlier to enjoy.

My kids would drive their poor teacher to her last nerve if I made them wait.

Anonym00se · 04/12/2024 19:02

Before. My DCs would have them unwrapped in two minutes! Mind you, they usually only got a ‘main’ present and some sweets or something, and a little gift from their siblings, not the Christmas-sized mountain of gifts that children seem to get these days. Presents from the wider family would usually be after school.

Before. Has to be!!

We do before, sometimes it is a rush but they usually get up early anyway because they're excited

mynameiscalypso · 04/12/2024 19:11

Before. I never want to wait to open presents on my birthday so I don't see why I would make DS wait!

mamajong · 04/12/2024 19:14

Small siblings gifts at breakfast the rest after school in our house

Iliketulips · 04/12/2024 19:21

We did them in the morning. It's one day DD would get up in plenty of time, so we did the same. Also, even if she was having a party on another day, she'd usually have a friend around and we wanted to enjoy her opening her presents.

sanityisamyth · 04/12/2024 19:23

Depends what the child is like. Are they more likely to kick off if you tell them to leave their brand new toys to go to school in the morning, or kick off if you tell them to wait until they get back from school to open them. Or compromise and they can open one before school?

Sleepyquest · 04/12/2024 19:26

After! We had our first school birthday last month and so glad we waited as the mornings are chaos anyway!

GameOfJones · 04/12/2024 19:26

Definitely before. DDs are more than happy to wake up a bit earlier on their birthdays to open presents.

Cake and a special dinner after school.

crumpet · 04/12/2024 19:27

Before. I always got up earlier to make sure breakfast was ready to go, so more time could be spent on presents

Lulu1919 · 04/12/2024 19:29

Always after
Special breakfast ...a few cards
Pressies once daddy got home from work ...I was a SAHM
Always did it that way.
