Do you get paid early at Xmas?

I'm 6 months into a new job so wasn't at this employer last year. In most of my previous jobs I've been paid early for Xmas. I get paid at the end of the month. I'm in 2 minds it would be useful to get more Xmas things but will make January very long. Or if we don't it'll make January a normal month money wise.
We manage on my salary just but can't save and it's tight.
Hopefully as I'm owed about £500 in expenses I'll get them before Xmas and that can pay for presents.
When do you get paid?

I do the payroll and I always do a vote round the staff. Most say they don't mind so I usually do it last working day before Xmas as we close down for the whole period and I would panic incase it didn't go through for any strange reason!

Tulip8 · 23/11/2024 19:40

Nope! I'm a childminder, if anything it's usually late! Parents forget 🙄

Yes….nhs

I usually get paid the last working day of each month. In December I always get paid early - I think around the 23rd.

FoFanta · 23/11/2024 19:43

We get paid fortnightly (midwife in the HSE in Ireland) and it is brilliant. Payday falls in St Stephens Day this year so we'll probably get it early cos of the Bank Holiday, but our next pay is due on the 9th of January so it's not too long of a gap.

MissAmbrosia · 23/11/2024 19:44

No, We get paid last working day of the month and it doesn't change for Xmas. It doesn't make a difference to me now, but I remember in my youth it was lovely to get paid early but then Jan was VERY long.

UpUpUpU · 23/11/2024 19:44

Yes. NHS and payday is normally 26th but in December it’s 20th

kittyycatt · 23/11/2024 19:45

DH gets paid on 25th of every month but usually gets paid a week early on Christmas.

Completelyjo · 23/11/2024 19:45

We get paid 4 days early. I actually find it annoying.

Mum2jenny · 23/11/2024 19:46

Yes, NHS, I think they are paying on 20th of December. However that does make January a very long month.

TheBitterBoy · 23/11/2024 19:46

No, but our pay day is 15th of the month, which is very sensible in my opinion. Avoids all these issues.

RosesAndHellebores · 23/11/2024 19:46

Payroll comes under me. We usually close the day before or a day or two before Xmas Eve and don't open again until the New Year. Therefore we pay a few days before we close in case there are problems to iron out. If someone didn't get paid for Xmas I'd never forgive myself. Our pay day is usually 25th.

Ilovemyshed · 23/11/2024 19:47

Yes and then I push it into savings and pay it back on the actual pay day date. January is long enough!

Gymmum82 · 23/11/2024 19:47

Last year I think we got paid on the 14th December. January was absolutely awful

orangewasp · 23/11/2024 19:48

Normally at the end of the month but in December a week before Christmas. I transfer all of it to my savings account and then pay myself on New Years Eve. It's the only way I can manage it. I also save my account round ups, odd bits of money and all my Tesco and Nectar cards to use in January as it goes on forever!

TheDandyLion · 23/11/2024 19:48

We've brought forward the December pay from the Friday after to now the Friday before. But we've also brought the Jan pay from what would normally be Tue 28th to the Friday before on the 24th so it's not so long month.

niclw · 23/11/2024 19:50

Paid the last day of the month and that stays the same in December. I actually prefer it as I used to run out of money in January when I was paid early in a previous job.

Hellohah · 23/11/2024 19:51

We normally get paid on the penultimate working day of the month.
We get paid on the 19th in December.
I move the money in my savings and move it back into my current account on the 30th just because I'd forget I'm not being paid again, think I'm rich for 11 days and spend it all 😭

Merrymess · 23/11/2024 19:52

Yes, public sector.

CandlesOrangesRedribbon · 23/11/2024 19:53

Yes paid early.
Every month every penny gets allocated somewhere including to Christmas so I'm going to only take what's Christmas money and try and leave the rest.

NoWordForFluffy · 23/11/2024 19:53

No. Pay day is 23rd, and they stick to this date.

PlantDoctor · 23/11/2024 19:54

Yes, DH and I both get paid on 19/20th this year.

Stressedgiraffe · 23/11/2024 19:55

Thanks a bit of a mix then. I'm not really bothered I'm more concerned about getting my expenses back before Xmas to pay for presents.

PullTheBricksDown · 23/11/2024 19:56

Nope, used to but then it went to end of the month as normal. So you have to plan Nov and Dec spending carefully but it does take the pain out of January.

PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister · 23/11/2024 19:56

No; I always get paid on the 19th
