Good Morning Everyone! What's everyone up to today?

I'm just drinking my first cuppa & watching the rain Storm Bert has brought, from my kitchen spot. Very grey & miserable out there.

I'm supposed to be taking dd2 to the local shopping outlet today, for the make up shop and stocking fillers for my dad, but think I'm going to see if town will do instead. There's a shop I think will have the things she wants. That's obviously assuming the buses continue to run alright.

Dd1 had plans for a loooong sleep, last night, then organising her college folders today, ready for starting new content in English Lit this coming week. She's also been given more of a share of things to do around the house, since she's almost 18, so has that to do.

Tonight it's leftover Chinese takeaway 😋, accompanied by a glass or two of wine for me. Then showers all round & a couple of hours crocheting the church for my village for me. I'll stick Food Network or similar on in the background. I want to get it done fairly quickly so I can crochet a stocking for my dad (only if there's time though!).

What about all of you?🙂

Good morning Lucysmam and All,

Just had a cuppa, DD12 has surfaced and we’ll have some breakfast in a mo,

Really need to give my kitchen a deep clean so will get on with that this morning and then will pop out to nearby town with DD to get DD’s laptop hopefully repaired and have a potter about.

This evening will be left over spaghetti Bol for me and just the pasta and cheese for DD as she doesn’t do sauces!!! Then Strictly and some sort of chocolate treats to go with it.

Hope everyone has a great weekend and Storm Bert doesn’t impact us all too much. It’s just grey and drizzle for us at the moment in the SE!

AllTangledUpInTinselAndTiaras · 23/11/2024 08:55

Watching the snow coming down! ❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️

Such a wonderful thing.

FayKnights · 23/11/2024 08:55

Morning @lucysmam
Hope you are doing well.
I have a crazy cockapoo called Bert, to see a storm with the same name is very apt!

I’m still in bed with a cuppa, but will leap into the shower shortly to get ready to meet a friend for our weekly coffee. I need to do a bit of shopping afterwards and then back home to take Bert and his big brother to the woods for a run.

I need to start planning Christmas, works been manic so not really had the headspace, but it’s calming down a bit now, so can shift my focus back to my favourite time of year!!

Have a good day!

CoastalCalm · 23/11/2024 09:02

Well I’ve had a nightmare week or so , had my extensive hysterectomy and good news on cancer front but got a terrible infection and had to spend a week in hospital where they had to open wound up so though I’m home again I am effectively housebound til Christmas now while things hopefully heal with help of daily nurse visits.

Today a friend is going to bring me over some treats from my favourite cafe and have a cuppa. DH is going to go to M&S and get all the things I fancy and apart from that just waiting for nurse to come - but in reality with the weather so bloody awful it’s a day for the sofa / bed anyway

lucysmam · 23/11/2024 09:02

@AllTangledUpInTinselAndTiaras I'm only slightly envious of you watching snow instead of rain ❄️ it makes even my back garden look magical.

@FayKnights my favourite time of year too! Dd1 told me off repeatedly at The Range last night for getting giddy over alllll the Christmas things 🤣

Morning all, storm Bert is raging here so my plans for an swim have been rearranged as don't want branches blowing at us whilst we're out! Under the electric blanket at the moment but need to get up in a minute to go to my Hiit class this morning, then at lunchtime DD is off for some time with her Granny. As we have childfree day DH and I are off to see Gladiator 2 this afternoon, probably followed an afternoon nap for me after as was woken early by the wind. Then out for dinner and a cocktail in town tonight with DH. We haven't had any time just the two of us in absolutely ages so should be lovely.

Notmydaughteryoubitch · 23/11/2024 09:04

@CoastalCalm - what do you like watching, maybe we can recommend some TV to aid your sofa day.

If you haven't done Rivals yet - it is ridiculous but such good fun and Danny Dyer is a revelation, perfect watch on a blustery Saturday!

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 23/11/2024 09:04

Good morning Lucysmam and others. We had heavy rain earlier which turned to heavy snow which is lying. I'm going nowhere today. I did the food shopping yesterday. I had a really bad night's sleep so cancelled plans for breakfast with a friend. Looking at the snow, I'm glad I did. Enjoy your day

ListenLinda · 23/11/2024 09:05

Woke up to heavy snow & DDs dance class cancelled.
Just done a load of washing & fed the kids. Our niece stayed for the night last night, so all kids just having time on their ipads while we figure out what to do this morning.
Planned to take them all for a McDonalds lunch & soft play after, but will depend how much it rains & melts some of the snow!

LittleRedRidingHoody · 23/11/2024 09:05

Morning @lucysmam and everyone 😊

DS is at his swimming lesson and I'm sat in the little cafe here with a Chai 😋 - We used to do Thursday afternoons but DS is desperate to go to Football club then, so we've switched to 8:30 on a Saturday. Pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to get out and how quickly I'm in a comfy chair with a yummy hot drink and a book (which I haven't touched yet because MN comes first!)

Heading for the station after DS is dried and dressed, via a McDonalds drive through for a breakfast hash brown to go with the fruit pot and babybel I've packed for him - very nutritious 😂

We're going into London for a day of Christmassy things 🎄 Skating at Battersea, followed by a little mooch in the shops there - DM has expressed interest in another Lego set for christmas so need to pick that up. Then on to Hyde Park for Winter Wonderland! Very much looking forward to seeing all the lights and eating overpriced churros. If DS still has energy by 5ish we'll go and take the bus from Oxford Street which goes along the major Christmas lights routes ✨

Then back home for the evening. I'm away for work next week so will need to pack tonight, probably with Orange Is The New Black on in the background - I'm late to the party but really enjoying it!

FrenchFancie · 23/11/2024 09:05

well I’m about to leave home to go to the knitting and stitching show in Harrogate, but just checked the traffic and half of the roads seem blocked, so will probably be late now!

then a day wandering around all the stalls and exhibits and spending, but I’ve been saving all year and looking forward to it.

Then a drink / snack in town before home with sore feet!!!

luckily I live quite close to Harrogate but I feel sorry for those trying to travel from further afield in this weather…

DilemmaDelilah · 23/11/2024 09:06

Good morning @lucysmam . I have had breakfast in bed (bacon sandwich) and I now have a fresh hot water bottle and am contemplating going back to sleep. I didn't have a great night and we have nothing planned for today so why not!

I've been looking at my diary for next week and it is rather more full than usual. I have a blood test and swimming on Monday - swimming is at 9.00 which means that I won't be able to go for my blood test until later, which means that I will probably end up in the queue for the phlebotomists for well over an hour 😢. I'm working on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, then I have a dental appointment on Friday - I had a baby tooth (upper canine) which finally crumbled to bits on Thursday evening so I'm going in for an impression for a denture. What is left of the root is still in the gum, so I can't have a bridge until it has come out, and the dentist can't take it out because I'm on several drugs which make it risky, so I have to wait for a hospital appointment. Hence having a denture, for the moment. It's my first and I can't say I'm looking forward to it. My other upper canine is also a baby tooth so I still have the joy of waiting for that one to crumble as well! In amongst all that we also have picking grandson up from the Cathedral duties. Christmas is less than 5 weeks ago so his Christmas duties are really ramping up!

All that rambling is just to say we are looking forward to a day busy doing nothing today. Tomorrow we have to pick grandson up from the Cathedral in the evening, so today is the only day for that.

lucysmam · 23/11/2024 09:10

@LittleRedRidingHoody I make the "MN first" mistake on an evening when I want to read...3 hours later I can still be reading here instead of my book 🙈

We desperately need to do a Big Shop, we do it every other Friday, but had a funeral to go to yesterday and it snowed on Thursday. However DH hurt his back last night so can’t really move and I am recovering from an operation, I can walk but not carry anything. I guess I will make 2 or 3 trips to the nearest place for essentials to last us until DH is mobile again (Tuesday?)

We had planned to go and see a landmark in our city that has reopened after restauration.

And DH invited a friend and his 6 year old son over at 4pm for cake (we don’t have any cake or ingredients), but not sure whether they're coming or not.

I also need to do some medical paperwork.

DH is still asleep.

RabbitsRock · 23/11/2024 09:12

Morning @lucysmam & everyone - grey, wet & a tad windy here in Cornwall. I’m having a cuppa before getting in the shower to wash my hair. Must book a fringe trim as it’s driving me nuts! DD15 is coming out the other side of a nasty cold/chesty cough & I appear to have a (thankfully) mild version with scratchy throat & blocked up nose. Working later so will dose myself up. DH is already at work but only for a couple of hours then he’ll pick up some straw for when he cleans out the bunnies. I keep thinking he’s going to succumb too but so far he’s just a bit snotty & snoring more than usual! Haven’t christened tea yet. We were having omelettes but I just don’t fancy them. Oh yes, just remembered, DH is getting Asda pizzas. Need to text him what toppings I want. I have clean washing in the machine to be tumble dried then possibly enough to put on another load. Dishwasher needs unloading/loading.

Giggorata · 23/11/2024 09:13

Good morning lucysmam and all!
I am contemplating getting up for my tea.

A friend will be round in about an hour to help DH do something with the wood burner, thank goodness. I have really noticed the difference without having it on, using just the oil heating.
I plan to watch Legion today, with oodie and heated throw.
Later, I might paint some wine boxes dark blue, for an odd corner I have upstairs. They make good bookshelves.

I will try my first drive post surgery, going to the coven tonight. It is only a few miles. I won't go if this heavy rain turns icy.
DH isn't impressed, he thinks it's too early.
I told him that I would drive like an old lady and he reminded me that I am one…👵🏻

Hope everyone has a good day.

AWeeNameChange · 23/11/2024 09:13

Full day in bed surrounded by snacks & books.

TribulationPeriwinkle · 23/11/2024 09:14

Morning, @lucysmam and everyone!
@CoastalCalm I hope you’re comfortable and pain-free and that you find something suitably escapist to watch.

Miserable weather here in London but we’ll be going out anyway when DD’s carers arrive.
Will hunker down in our favourite local cafe for a bit - they always have lovely home-made cakes - before running errands (prescriptions from two different chemists) and finding lunch somewhere.
Will need to cook something for DD when we’re back - veg fried rice, maybe, not a lot left in the fridge! - then wait for food shopping to arrive. DD loves helping put everything away and finds it much more exciting than I do 😃 - “look, mummy! Spinach!”
Once she’s in bed, we’ll eat something snacky and I’ll gird my loins to get stuck into paperwork for her upcoming EHCP review, while DD reads the entire internet on his phone. If I can’t face the paperwork, I’ll return to the disaster scene that is the beanie I’m trying to crochet!

Meadowfinch · 23/11/2024 09:14

It's raining here, so I gave Parkrun a miss.

I've had coffee, put washing on and done the Mumsnet puzzles. Tesco food shop next. After that I'll put a chicken casserole in the slow cooker for later, then start writing Christmas lists.

I've a new dress for the works Christmas do, with sequins which are very not-me so need to try styling it.

Then light the log burner, persuade DS to do his homework and settle down for a lazy evening. I might try to beat DS at Scrabble, which is getting harder. 🙂

Spagettifunctional · 23/11/2024 09:17

Hi lucysmam and everyone

dh is bringing me tea and toast and he’s up with the kids so I put the electric blanket back on

kids have activities at 3 so easy morning until then & my plans are to do a bit of work for school, put batteries into the Christmas decorations ready for early December.
housework and dinner are done (I made a stew in slow cooker yesterday)

i would love to get stuck into a bit of Netflix at some point

PandaChopChop · 23/11/2024 09:18

Morning Saturday mumsnet crew- @CoastalCalm sorry to hear about your op. I've been watching Cross all week if that might float your boat.

I've just woken up after a much needed lie in. I feel like it's been a very long few weeks of work drama, job hunting and chaos.
DD has her birthday celebration with her friends today, so DCs dad is coming to collect DS so they can go out for a few hours while DD goes to see the new Wicked film and ice cream for dinner. I'll be wondering round doing some Christmas shopping/drinking coffee as I've been told I'm not allowed to go in with them!

I'm about to get up and give the DC a hug and have a cup of tea and then start getting my life in order. I've got a couple of job applications to fill out, an assignment to finish off and then general house jobs.
We'll be sat watching I'm a celeb later no doubt and possibly strictly if DS gets his way, and I think I will make chilli con carne with peanut butter sandwiches for dinner.

Tomorrow the DC are begging me to put the Xmas decs up so we'll do some of that, a friend wants to catch up with her DC which will be lovely.

Have a lovely day all. Wish it was snowing here!

changedusernameforthis1 · 23/11/2024 09:19

We were planning on going around the Christmas market with the kids today, but it's snowing/raining on and off, both kids are full of cold and I didn't manage to get a wink of sleep all night (chronic pain, insomnia) so I think we're having a cosy day at home instead.
We'll probably bring out the board games at some point and stick a film on later with some nice hot chocolate.

RabbitsRock · 23/11/2024 09:20

PandaChopChop that’s a very unusual food combination!

RabbitsRock · 23/11/2024 09:21

Would appreciate any reviews of the Wicked film.

drspouse · 23/11/2024 09:22

Storm Bert has hit the NW and I've battled through it with DD for a haircut.
Then she and I have music group but we are not all going to the disability dry ski club this afternoon so we don't drown.
It's supposed to ease off in time for DH and I to go to a vvvvvv fancy restaurant tonight. I have a new dress from Joanie.
