I put this in too - better IMO!

I'm completely stuck on the clock. I've tried Black Hands, Gold Face - neither of which are books AFAIK! What am I missing???

Gold Face
Not gold but similar. All one word.

Stowickthevast · 15/11/2024 08:36

Oh FFS , I've even read it. Thanks @CaptainMyCaptain (love that film btw)

I wondered what you meant for a minute. I haven't seen that film but it's a poem by Walt Whitman via a character in the Archers a long time ago 😁

Finished - took me ages because I thought the clock face was orange in colour - must be my screen - and I thought the little girl was holding a goose!

I thought the clock face was gold!

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 15/11/2024 09:06

"Argh!" Is all I can say as I get frustrated at my remaining ones. Feels tough this year.

Stowickthevast · 15/11/2024 09:09

@CaptainMyCaptain the poem was in the Dead Poets Society - it's an amazing scene 🥹

If she's an angel she's a '.... girl'. What does it look like has happened?

It's not just a book it's on Netflix.

goingforbronze · 15/11/2024 09:21

Thanks guys!

Phew, finally completed it and apart from the guy with the fangs I think I cheated all the way!!

I did quite a lot of cheating, too, but it's become part of the fun for me - checking out Booker prize long lists and booksellers' bestseller lists, joining the thread on Mumsnet - it makes me feel really Christmassy!

Identify professions from the pictorial clues

TinyTear · 15/11/2024 10:52

But the great thing is that both here and on twitter people are in the spirit of the game and don't give out the answers, just good (and not so good) clues

nothingtoseehereatall · 15/11/2024 11:47

I've got them all except Sherlock Holmes one and the CCTV camera - which I'm sure is something to do with reality TV/ surveillance but can't think what connection with Oceania is?

Oceania only features in the book so if you haven't read the book it will be meaningless to you. You are on the right track.

Stuck on 3:
Sherlock Holmes
Comedy - is this someone who died recently?
Box with light names

BiliousOhGod · 15/11/2024 13:00

The Sherlock one is the name of one of the books, which is not necessarily the same as the TV programme it's based on...

The comedy author is still alive. But is Scottish. 😀. The picture represents the kind of thing which xx consumers want to see, and which xx performers want to portray, but say that xy decision makers don't commission..... Sorry - that's really vague.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 15/11/2024 13:07

@Otterseatpuffinsdontthey

You can't see the lights, you might well be blind

gamesnight · 15/11/2024 13:42

stuck on Mixologist
Baking
Travel
Angel
Barbershop

Otterseatpuffinsdontthey · 15/11/2024 13:51

@BiliousOhGod
Thanks for your clues. I need to leave this for a while!
I gather the Sherlock one isn't "One Man and His Dog"? 😉

goingforbronze · 15/11/2024 14:31

Sherlock clue - just google Sherlock Holmes stories, look down the list and you'll see one which mentions what could be a room and a colour. It will be obvious when you see it! Nothing to do with hounds!

InMySpareTime · 15/11/2024 14:34

@Otterseatpuffinsdontthey what if Mr Holmes modelled his home office decor on the Pimpernel?

It's a key ingredient in baking and a recent hit

It looks more like custard than what it actually is.
