Best spa you were ever at?

I just went to one in Milan, Italy and oh my God it was amazing.

It's the best one I've ever been at.

There was an inside pool with jacuzzi sprays.
There was an Outside pool with jacuzzi sprays.
There was a sauna outside that was built like a train carriage.

Inside, they had a lavender sauna room, so you could breathe in lavender scent.

They also had, (the first one I've seen), a cinema special effects pool.

You sit in the pool and a short film comes on. Rain starts happening in the film, and then hot rain actually starts coming down on you in the pool.

I was impressed!

Sounds amazing! I haven't been to many but really enjoyed the Thermae Bath Spa. The rooftop pool is gorgeous, there's a lovely pool downstairs and all sorts of other rooms to explore in between.

Bath is nice but way too busy. Budapest has a huge one that's fun, Buxton is good

20yrs ago, I went to one in Suffolk at a grand manor house/castle type place! I suspect it would be considered an 'old school' spa now, but I've never been to anything similar since. They had the regular massage, sauna, steam rooms etc. A wooden box where we each lady sat inside, hair in a turban thing and I 'think' it steamed the body. I recall laying in a warm bath and a woman with a massive hose directed the water over by legs/arms. Apparently this was a cellulite treatment. I also recall standing in a shower area with another woman using a freezing hose to wet me down between the hot treatments.

Explaining it now, it sounds like some sort of prison shower experience, but it was actually very nice! 😆

Lake vyrwyn hotel and spa, best view from a jacuzzi ever!

Newtrix · 11/11/2024 20:35

Seaham Hall in the North East is stunning.

deademptyduck · 11/11/2024 20:38

Eden Hall Day Spa is lovely. It's just a spa, not a hotel, so its massive!

mindutopia · 11/11/2024 20:45

St Michael’s Resort in Cornwall was lovely. I also went to the Aire Spa in Barcelona and that was great for the variety of plunge pools. It’s also cavernous and feels like you’re in caves. The tea service was nice too. It’s very expensive now though!

I love Sherwood Aqua Sana. Except when there are large groups of women there on hen parties as generally you always seem to get a few in the group who don't seem to understand the concept of indie voices.

But other than them, I love the outdoor heated pool, the variety of steam rooms with different scents and the many places to just relax and read a book. It's just a lovely place to chill .

fivechairs · 11/11/2024 21:34

To add, Sherwood Aqua Sana isn't the 'poshest' spa I've been to, but it's my favourite go to spa, I go about 4 times a year.

Seaham Hall in the North East is stunning.

I also love it at the Serenity Spa at Seaham and came on to say the same thing.

Was that Shrubland Hall? I went there over 20 years ago and the entire staff were batshit crazy. The doctor was about 110 and he spent all my consultation time telling me about all his ailments. They also starved the guests to the point of feeling weak and faint. Bonkers place but long closed now

greentree16 · 11/11/2024 21:42

Has to be aqua sana!

CadoAvo · 11/11/2024 21:45

Tamarind Springs in Koh Samui Thailand. Was there on honeymoon and it was amazing. Pools built into the rocks, saunas built into caves and the odd monkey spotted in the trees above you. Had a 3 hour couples outdoor treatment and the only downside to that was the mosquitoes but the massage therapists dealt with them 😅

That does sound amazing OP!

I really enjoyed the Aire spa in Seville last October. We’d had torrential rain all day while sightseeing so taking refuge in the spa in the evening was wonderful. There was a salt bath, an ice one as well as lots of hot ones of course, and various steam rooms.

Others I’ve enjoyed very much are Bath- loved the different scented steam rooms. Have also been to the big one in Budapest which was fun, but I took a wrong turning at one point and almost ended up in a naked male sauna with lots of rotund Hungarian chaps 😂
The spa at Chewton Glen was also very good but ten years since I was there so not sure if it’s still as good.

*Edited because Chewton autocorrected to ‘Cheetos’ 😂

Ragdale Hall.

BellissimoGecko · 11/11/2024 22:21

Aqua Sana at Woburn Forest. 25 relaxation/steam/experience rooms! Water beds! Fab outdoor pool. Great staff. Amazing treatments. Love it.

Okbyethen · 11/11/2024 22:23

Aqua Sana Woburn Forest is always nice, as is Hoar Cross Hall.

I didn't rate Ragdale Hall at all. It was cold (inside the spa) when we went and the pools were cold too. Bollocks for what it cost!
