Best spa you were ever at?

I just went to one in Milan, Italy and oh my God it was amazing.

It's the best one I've ever been at.

There was an inside pool with jacuzzi sprays.
There was an Outside pool with jacuzzi sprays.
There was a sauna outside that was built like a train carriage.

Inside, they had a lavender sauna room, so you could breathe in lavender scent.

They also had, (the first one I've seen), a cinema special effects pool.

You sit in the pool and a short film comes on. Rain starts happening in the film, and then hot rain actually starts coming down on you in the pool.

I was impressed!

AIRE in London was lovely.

Nirvana Spa in Berkshire. Absolute heaven!

DemonicCaveMaggot · 12/11/2024 18:53

Covidwoes I joined this thread to add Nirvana. I particularly like the dead sea pool.

Ragdale Hall is cold. There are no steaming hot water pools and that's a shame. I loved the underground candlelit room but it was the same tepid pool temperature.

The thread I needed! OP what was the name of the spa you visited in Milan?

I'm absolutely going to check out some of the recommendations and add a couple when I have a moment to collect my thoughts.

I went to one just outside Barcelona which was amazing. Beds you could lie on and have warm water poured on you. A lazy river. A sensory room with heated beds, music and a light show. Hot and cold plunge pools. Loved it.

NotMeekNotObedient · 12/11/2024 19:08

I love Hamman Anadalus, a few of them in Spain. It's similar to AIRE in London. It's a hot baths type which I love.

Florence - Hotel Bristol & Helvetia. The spa was amazing. Built around an ancient Roman spa with the archaeological remains a key feature. Caldarium and frigidarium pools, different temperature water jets in the ‘Emotional Room’ that you walk through several times, and an ice room with a wall of ice for rapid cool-down after your sauna. There is a relaxation room with a floor of salt crystals that you sink your feet into as you relax. Beautiful snacks, fruits and cleansing teas etc to help yourself to at will. Just the most divine experience - DD and I couldn’t quite believe our luck!

The Sanctuary in Covent Garden back in the day. My first experience of a spa and I loved it.

Oh I'm sad to hear that. I last went in 2018 and it was amazing.

Gosh, I used to go there back in the mid 90s! That takes me back! Absolutely loved it on that swing!

Oooh I want to go to all these spas!
There is an Aqua Sana near me and it's lovely, but some of these sound even better.

Center parcs spa has a sauna which does that with the film! Gave us a shock when cold mist started spraying out 🤣 they also have the scent rooms

England - Pennyhill Park. Loads of different rooms to visit, beautiful pools indoors and outdoors. We went near Christmas...hotel is stunning too.

Abroad - We've just got back from the Maldives and the spa at our resort was just heavenly. Service was off the scale.

Covidwoes · 13/11/2024 20:08

@DemonicCaveMaggot it's honestly one of my favourite places in the world to spend a day. I ask for a nirvana voucher every year for Xmas, as it is expensive. Feel like a million dollars after a visit there. Absolute heaven! I'm very lucky that it's local to me!

TheRealKatnissEverdeen · 14/11/2024 08:58

Spa in the W Amsterdam is amazing. Very relaxing indulgent.
Bali various places I can't recall but prices were great and treatments glorious.
St Pancras Renaissance hotel spa is nice.
Champneys Tring
I did a cruise with Tui and the spa on the ship was impressive.
Lara Batut Collection hotel spa in Turkey
Belmar Spa Portugal

The UK spas I've been to (there are lots) have escaped me!

zingally · 14/11/2024 10:00

Ragdale Hall in Leicestershire is my personally favourite! I feel relaxed the moment I turn down the driveway!

littletesco · 14/11/2024 10:03

The spa at The Corinthia is sublime. The therapists are world class and you are treated like absolute royalty.

Interesting. I hated the Dead Sea pool at nirvana but I have very dry skin so I walked in and all my skin felt like it was cracking! I loved the sauna and plunge pool though - there aren't enough plunge pools in the UK.

I love Sherwood Aqua Sana. Except when there are large groups of women there on hen parties as generally you always seem to get a few in the group who don't seem to understand the concept of indie voices.

But other than them, I love the outdoor heated pool, the variety of steam rooms with different scents and the many places to just relax and read a book. It's just a lovely place to chill .

Well I retract this comment!

Went to Sherwood Aqua Sana last week on overnight spa break, so disappointed. I'm annoyed as I have been going here several times a year for at least 10 years, this is my third over night spa break there. I know what to expect and as per my previous post it's always been lovely. For various reasons it's ten months since my last visit and I was frustrated at some of the changes.

Firstly, on arrival they have always supplied you with a bag to put your bits and bobs in while in the spa (books/glasses/extra towel are the things I usually put in my bag), they no longer supply the bag, and there is no option to buy one. Because we were on the overnight break I had left my overnight case and handbag in the car ready to check into the lodge later in the day so I didn't have to hand my fold up shopper from my handbag. Fortunately my friend had a carrier bag in her pocket so we shared that.

The spa itself is looking tired and uncared for. Usually staff are quietly cleaning through the day. Not once in 2 days did I see the floor where you get out of the pool swept with the squeegee brush thing they usually use, so it was always a massive puddle with bits of fluff and dirt.
In the beds room that overlooks the hot tubs, big bits of dirt/fluff/apple stalks (!) in the bit between the mattress and wall. In the pool dirty grout, black mould in the area at the back of the pool where you stand on the jacuzzi plate (which no longer works btw) .
The hot tubs outside, they use to alternate being big bubbles, now neither of them are properly bubbly, they are both just on a very low setting so no proper bubbles.
The first morning we bought breakfast from the cafe, I had the poached eggs pesto and cream cheese on toast (came with 2 eggs), the next morning breakfast was included with our package, I ordered the same thing but it only came with one egg. Which sounds minor but I was expecting it to be the same as the previous day so again it felt like cost cutting and corner cutting.

After over a decade of being a loyal Aqua Sana customer, both me and my friend have decided to go else where now.

Currently looking at Ragdale or Hoar Cross however having seen the Ragdale reviews on here may rethink that!
