Yes she was and like you I’m perfectly happy to give her credit where it’s due.

I was a little too subtle ... that was my low grade sarcasm ...

Sorry is the same Kemi Badenoch who got wheeled out to say why taking Frank Hester’s money was okay? That one?

She wasn’t wheeled out to do that. She publicly condemned Hester’s comments as racist.

There’s a whole other story to tell about some current Labour figures and their time in Corbyn’s antisemitic movement, including in Lammy’s case being willing to put Corbyn up for election as leader.

I must admit I didn’t understand what you were implying.

What were you trying to imply?

Personally, I am less interested in what Kemi Badenoch gets up to in her spare time, and more interested in how she intends to restore a level (rising to zero) of propriety in the Tory party.

This would mean swift action to censure - and potentially remove - anyone who makes public statements that are any form of -ist.

If we are talking past performance, I can not only see that not happening, but her joining in and agreeing.

There isn’t so far any great sign of propriety in the Labour Party. And when the widespread Labour antisemitism bursts out again - as it inevitably will - we can discuss that.

DuncinToffee · 07/11/2024 17:42

Good to see but Corbyn making a reappearance

Anti semitism is the new Godwins law as far as I can see. I realised that when I saw someone who asked what it meant being accused of "being an anti semite".

Just another buzzword to muddy the waters and prevent deeper examination of any issues.

However returning to propriety. Would I be correct in paraphrasing your stance as "if one side do it, then it's OK for all to do it" ? Or have I missed something ?

When do references to Johnson and Truss become out of time? Or Cameron? Or even Thatcher?

DuncinToffee · 07/11/2024 18:00

Probably when that treasury note does

If you grew up in Glasgow in the Poll Tax era, never.

There’s a reasonable interpretation of your first two paragraphs that might be thought unpleasant. But I’ll take it as political to-and fro.

As for the rest, no, I think you’ve got it backwards: it’s not ok to accuse critics of a BAME Labour MP as being inevitably or probably motivated by racism but to presume criticism of other parties’ BAME MPs as not being grounded in racism.

I am struggling to understand how people like Musk and the whole of Trump's family get positions in Trump's 'cabinet'.

And don't get me started on RFK being in charge of health. That's terrifying.

DuncinToffee · 07/11/2024 18:10

NEW - from Kemi Badenoch's campaign chair Rachel Maclean on Politics Live.... She says it was NOT the right decision for Tories to expand free childcare. “I actually don’t think it was... I think we should talk more about families and encouraging responsibility of families."

Maclean, a former MP, said: "Combining work with children is very hard but it’s about the right way of doing it. I don’t think the state can do all of it and I think we should empower women and parents and fathers as well to do more, as much as they possibly can.”

Do these people even want a productive workforce?

Way hay! We can never stop harking back to the 1970s or anything since, at the very least!

Piggywaspushed · 07/11/2024 18:28

1970s?

Poll tax was a wee bit later than that.

Trump's nephew on Trump.

There was a short interview with him on Newsnight last night. Brutal. It’s a shame he didn’t do it a couple of weeks ago.

I am guessing I am also required to forget about the politicising of Hillsborough.

ContactNightmare · 07/11/2024 18:41

I can’t get too worried about the political past. We are in the here and now. Thatcher was deaf on the poll tax and succeeded on the miners. If you look at the Conservatives now she looks like a wet on some matters compared to the previous government.

About the only good thing I will complement Badenoch on her attending the Cenotaph this weekend unlike her former colleague Braverman who practically incited a riot last year as Home Secretary

I was really thinking of your mention of mining, and what went before the pit closures. But local authority funding and spending would take us well back into the ‘70s and earlier as well.

Piggywaspushed · 07/11/2024 19:00

OK, well fair enough.

I'm not quite ready to forget Hitler (Or Powell, or Mosley) either, to be fair.

There’s a whole back story on this to do with inheritance.
