I would love for psychologists to study Trump.

Ed Davey

"This is a dark, dark day for people around the globe. The world's largest economy & most powerful military will be led by a dangerous, destructive demagogue.."

Well done him for speaking out. Starmer has no choice but to suck up... has Badenoch said anything?

DuncinToffee · 06/11/2024 09:35

I just think her being a woman was the biggest obstacle.

We all said that America wasn't ready for a woman president Sad

That is so so so sad. It's time for a woman president. She is so lovely too. She was beautiful, happy and positive.

America being racist and sexist.

DuncinToffee · 06/11/2024 09:46

Krishnan Guru-Murthy says they 'fired' Johnson from their show for promoting his book

It was a bizarre choice in the first place, not sure what they expected.

DuncinToffee · 06/11/2024 09:54

PMQs later

I staying away from threads saying to be nicer to racists (alledgedly)

BustingBaoBun · 06/11/2024 09:55

Yes, I think I agree. How fucked up is that when countries all over the world have women in power.

It's a sad sad day for women in the US now. They are obviously lesser beings

SugarIsHardtoAvoid · 06/11/2024 09:58

Feel scared for what’s to come socially, politically, economically, environmentally.

Is it Trump?
Is it definitely him?

His nonsense about people eating cats and dogs sounded like it came from a drunk person but it's someone who will likely be president of America again. The man is a lunatic. I am not a psychologist but does it look like he has a grandiose personality disorder? That's what it looks like to be. He's all talk about how great he's going to be and how great America is going to be but there's likely going to be no substance and a lot of it is built on hate.

There was a black voter on the telly yesterday who votes Trump. He said the cats and dogs line, then laughed. His ultimate take was Trump spews nonsense sometimes but it's just funny. Beyond that, he argued that Trump had better policies.

He then went on to say that it was Republicans who freed the slaves. I do hear that one trotted out quite a lot. It's objectively true. Whilst also being a nonsense argument.

I think the reason so many Europeans are surprised buy this is media obsession with 'balance' means for every Trump voter they showed in a vox pop they found a Harris voter and to our European ears , the Harris voters sound (and look) more reasonable and measured and representative.

I have recommended it before but Jon Sopel wrote an excellent book on the faulty British assumption that, because they are English speakers, Americans are the same as us.

I see the MN knives are really out for Lammy.

With Rayner posts it's misogyny and classism. With Abbott it's misogynoir. With Lammy, it's usually thinly disguised racism.

I can't see it any other way, I'm afraid.

ilovesooty · 06/11/2024 11:39

And of course if this has a detrimental effect on the markets and the UK economy it will all be Starmer and Reeves' fault 🙄

DuncinToffee · 06/11/2024 11:47

I like this advice (long thread so I have only copied the start)

https://x.com/i_iratus/status/1854123640578826317?t=d-CT9bw70AxUKDo_ePiypQ&s=19

Right.

I think we can all agree that the proverbial shit has hit the fan in a big way in the United States today, and the splatter will most certainly not be contained in the country that will now soon again be run by someone who is increasingly orange, senile, unhinged and surrounded by a few exceptionally dodgy characters.

Now, for me personally, when the faeces has exploded, the first thing I do is put on my strategist’s* hat (it’s really nice, it has sequins, but still looks serious).

So, with that in mind, let’s all put a plan together. Let’s identify the risks we’re facing now, the actions we can take, and how it may just help our communities not just cope but build resilience over the next four years.

BIossomtoes · 06/11/2024 11:53

Thank you for sharing that Duncin. I’ve just read the whole thing and it’s packed with good advice.

And of course if this has a detrimental effect on the markets and the UK economy it will all be Starmer and Reeves' fault 🙄

He has said he will impose a blanket tariff of at least 10 per cent on all foreign-made goods. 60 per cent on Chinese goods.

"The fear in Whitehall is that if Trump follows through on his election rhetoric then the hit to the UK economy could be as big as Brexit. UK goods exports — amounting to £59 billion — to the US would decline because prices would rise, while reciprocal tariffs would push up the cost of imports."
(from the Times)

Any trade deal of the type Farage etc will suggest that only he can get will need concessions on pharmaceuticals (sales to the NHS in particular), hormone treated beef and chlorinated chicken.

I fear it would be a massive mistake to assume any politician in this country would be able to get a fair deal from a Trump White House without screwing over some sectors - they certainly didnt manage that last time.
Of course that wont stop the right wing suggesting otherwise.

Thx for that Duncin

Wise advice. I do like the 'find laughter wherever you can bit'. Because I feel like I might wake up from a bad dream and that there is a black cloud following me round.
But DC2 has whatsapped me with an absolutely hilarious situation at her work, that has had me laughing out loud a lot. Pure coincidence it was today but what a darling she is!
There is hope.

DuncinToffee · 06/11/2024 12:21

Badenoch wants to invite Trump to Parliament, get those orange pompoms out

ilovesooty · 06/11/2024 12:24

Does anyone remember the footage of Trump visiting the UK and the Queen being really cross with Princess Anne when she lurked in the background and refused to come out to greet him?

Llttledrummergirl · 06/11/2024 12:25

Badenoch can fuck right off!

DuncinToffee · 06/11/2024 12:27

Oops

Badenoch accuses Starmer of failing to answer questions and instead reading "the lines his officials have prepared for him" as she asks about farmers inheritance tax row.

PM: "If she's going to complain about scripted answers, it's probably best not to read that from a script".

Wouldn't we all do the same Grin
