We’re obviously looking at it differently then. Clarkson just oozes privilege. And misogyny.

Edited

Of course he does. He’s always been like that. Misogyny? Have you watched Clarkson’s Farm? His girlfriend spends half the time calling him a fecking twat.

ContactNightmare · 19/11/2024 19:39

Look he’s terrific entertainment but that is it. He is still resentful of the BBC sacking him for punching a junior member of staff with a few choice epithets on his origins.

I think he is still annoyed at not working for the BBC. Truly. He came across like a bitter divorcee

Notonthestairs · 19/11/2024 19:53

I used to quite enjoy Clarkson but now every time I see him I think of his weirdly strong desire to punish Megan Markle (someone I have zero feelings for).

There are plenty of well known people I don't much care for. I have no desire to see for any of them publicly stripped. Nor would I suggest it even in 'banter'. I suppose that makes me woke or a prude.

He's made a good living as yet another gobshite though.

I agree with your friend. Derbyshire was dripping contempt.

Derbyshire was?
Calrkson (as usual) was arrogant and contemptuous. He had no answer to being reminded he had boasted of buying his land for tax avoidance purposes. All he could do was sigh about the BBC and look at the crowd. He owes his career to the BBC for a start, but it’s clear from the interview he’s motivated by self interest.
Derbyshire was totally calm and neutral.

ContactNightmare · 19/11/2024 19:59

I do think he is bitter. He liked working for them. It was never the same after he left, he had nothing to kick against. He likes being mainstream, and Amazon wasn’t it. A protest in Westminster is a day back in the public eye. If picking a fight with the BBC is how he does it then that’s fine.

I like the Union Jack Mac! Perhaps this will extend to all the Tory shadow cabinet

Isn't it Boden? as seen in Style and Beauty who IIRC weren't too keen

ContactNightmare · 19/11/2024 20:26

Well Boden for the Shires. It could be a unifying look for the shadow cabinet

Those women were odd. The one with the Stop Global Food sign in particular . What did farmers expect post Brexit? That they wouldn’t have to compete with the whole of the world on agriculture? That was pretty much exactly what it meant.

Well she isn't wrong is she?
Still doesn't make him correct though, Derbyshire asked him to back up his 96% figure, which even the NFU don't quote, he couldn't and then treated her like a hired hand.

He is just full of slurry, he admitted he bought a farm to avoid tax, then tried to deny this but even after these changes, he or rather his inheritors, will still get taxed at 20% instead of the 40% everyone else has to pay & even with poor tax advice, will avoid that.

No, I believe he's already quoted as saying he'll put it in Trust so avoid IHT. Obviously there are some charges for that but he must think the charges will be lower than the 20%.

Notonthestairs · 20/11/2024 07:46

I think if you want evidence that Clarkson invested in land to avoid IHT any subsequent move to use a Trust would confirm that.

Efacsen · 20/11/2024 07:46

My cousin went to school with Clarkson - he's always been a total twat and started young

How does that suggest he's not a misogynist?

Like saying someone can't be racist because a black person called them a twat.

BIossomtoes · 20/11/2024 07:50

His motivation is so obvious and it’s simply greed. There’s no way he can pretend his is a family farm. I really don’t understand why people like him care so much about what happens to their money when they’re dead.

Well our tv screens are littered with twats. They often make good love 'em/loathe 'em entertainers

I think it's more that he cares about not letting the government get their hands on any of his money. I mean, you don't want your vast wealth going to make life better for anyone else, do you?

That’s the very definition of greed, isn’t it?

No she wasn't. She asked him a very understandable question that we all want to ask. Do journalists now 'drip with contempt' if they ask an obvious question? Who the hell is he that he can't be questioned?

He is a dinosaur who did his very best to avoid paying the taxes that the rest of us do. His blustering and trying to get the people around him on side when she asked him a question, shows he was caught out.

He's putting it in trust anyway and even if he didn't let's not forget it's half what everyone else pays and over ten years to pay it! I am surprised there's not family business owners out on the streets given their IHT has to be paid before probate is issued!

This is a very good point, even if his estate paid full IHT, they would still be incredibly rich.

But as i learnt a long time ago, the more wealth one acquires, the more you want.

I'm with Octopus energy, Greg Jackson is now heading towards being a billionaire, i mean why? just think what good he could do for others with just a fraction of that money and if he can make that sort of profit, why have energy bills gone up?

Hoarding money seems to be a disease for some.
