Why do you hate business so much. Dyson has a very successful farming business. Clarkson is example of diversification. They don’t let the land lie fallow.

That isn’t the point. If there hadn’t been tax incentives they’d never have bought the land in the first place. No tax avoiding scheme has ever been ignored by Dyson hence moving his millions out of the country. Now he’s pissed off because he can’t move land somewhere else to avoid tax.

And they can afford the IHT.

It just stings because the exemption is why they bought the land, no noble motives.

Why does he have to have noble motives.

He doesn’t. He just has to pay tax like the rest of us.

He doesn't, he made it very clear his motives were IHT.

If you want to defend a multi millionaire - possibly billionaire - tax dodger, fill your boots. You won’t find much sympathy on this thread, though.

None of my views get much sympathy on these threads 🤣

Are you affected by the IHT?

cardibach · 19/11/2024 11:15

derxa · 19/11/2024 10:37

It’s not Clarkson’s protest. It’s thousands of ordinary farmers who were lied to by the government pre election.

What was the lie?
Also, their problem isn’t IHT, it’s supermarket price gouging. If they earned more, they wouldn’t have to worry about saving for IHT. They’ve been protesting about that for years and years, yet suddenly it’s IHT putting them out of business.

DuncinToffee · 19/11/2024 11:16

Farmers got my sympathy with the Australia deal, not IHT

derxa · 19/11/2024 11:17

DuncinToffee · 19/11/2024 11:13

Are you affected by the IHT?

Nope. We’re a very small farm in Scotland. If I got planning permission for 30 executive homes it might be different.

@BestIsWest Thanks for thé tips for deleting X. Been meaning to do it for a while. I like Bluesky and have found most of the people I followed

BlueSky is good, it's like Twitter used to be. I haven't deactivated Twitter yet, as funnily enough I posted something on there, and got over 100 likes (it was quite funny even though I say so myself!) Usually no one notices anything I say on there 😂

When? I don’t recall that. Do you have a link?
Not suggesting it’s not true, obviously. Just I haven’t seen it and I haven’t seen any other media source reference it when criticising the policy.

When and where? The only taxes they pledged not to raise were income tax, NI and VAT.

For a tiny proportion. Wouldn’t the ones like Clarkson etc who are stirring it up be better placed using their voices to get the actual problem fixed instead of tinkering wit( something that won’t affect many?
Ah, but no - because they don’t give a stuff about farmers, just their own tax dodging, so there’s no benefit in saying ‘you know what, it’s fair farms pay some IHT as they used to not so long ago - but it’s difficult to make a living farming, so shall we try to do something about that?’ Because that only helps actual farmers.

Google sky news and Steve Reed and there is an article where he admits making a u turn over IHT on farms.

BustingBaoBun · 19/11/2024 11:36

BIossomtoes · 19/11/2024 10:48

The people it will hit - quite rightly - are the Dysons and Clarksons who bought their land as a tax dodge in the first place. There are ways round it anyway - pass the farm on now and live seven more years. Job done.

And so they should be hit. Especially Dyson. He owns more land in the UK than the Queen. They both have something in common. Tax avoidance when possible.

He has hoovered up a massive area of the countryside near me. Huge parts of Lincolnshire, Gloucestershire and elsewhere. His owned land is believed to be over 35,000 acres.

What is sad is... opposite where his huge land grab is situated in my vicinity, he has now taken over an old farmhouse/building opposite, it looks truly awful as he has concreted over it all, so his empire is moving ever forward.

And yet he pays no IHT on this. No one (not even derxa on here!) can justify that to me. It is absolutely criminal that this is a tax wheeze. Yes of course his website shows all the bio-diversity and such like but pay your fucking taxes like everyone else.

Incidentally, a lot of Dyson's farming land grabs are shrouded in mystery, it is really hard to find out detail.

But if he has to pay IHT like the rest of the British public, GOOD

He espoused Brexit then fucked off.

This? Steve Reed isn’t the chancellor and he apparently made a promise he had no right to make over a year ago. All that says is the he personally has changed his mind.

Environment secretary Steve Reed admits he U-turned on farm inheritance tax

Farmers are protesting in Westminster today after Chancellor Rachel Reeves announced in the budget last month that 20% inheritance tax will be charged on farms worth over £1m, a policy that Mr Reed said a Labour government would not adopt.
