I deactivated on November 6th. I’ve been on BlueSky for a while but it does seem to be taking off. I’m also on threads but that seems to be very quiet.

BIossomtoes · 19/11/2024 07:38

Can anyone tell me how I can deactivate my account? I’ve just spent ages trying to work out how to do it to no avail.

I think @BIossomtoes means Twitter not Mumsnet.
In which case

  1. Click or tap your profile icon or the navigation menu
  2. Select Settings and privacy
  3. Select Account
  4. Select Deactivate your account
Sounds simple but it took me a few goes and involved a password change.
PandoraSox · 19/11/2024 07:49

Edited as got wrong end of stick!🙄

Cheguevarahamster · 19/11/2024 08:15

Its very therapeutic when you deactivate. Loving Blue Sky. It has a 2010 twitter feel.

Threads isn't political enough..

BIossomtoes · 19/11/2024 08:20

I like it too. I still haven’t managed to free myself of X, it doesn’t recognise my saved password.

What I don’t get is the rage. I have seen a number of articles which are complaining about the departure of leftist woke godless socialist (I exaggerate) leaving X. These are people who are usually on the right. Snarling at them about leaving X won’t change any minds. Or is it not much fun if you don’t have an opponent? X is a race to the bottom imo because it gets personal quickly. If Bluesky has a better standard which avoids that then I can see the attraction.

"Or is it not much fun if you don’t have an opponent? X is a race to the bottom imo because it gets personal quickly"

Yes, I imagine this is the problem.

My Twitter feed was largely work and particular interests (and pets!). I moved to Bluesky because the people gradually stopped using Twitter. Annoyingly I havent been able to track everyone down on Bluesky yet so I will have twitter until I do.

That said the last time I looked at Twitter it took me to For You and the first post was a woman pretending to perform a sex act on gym equipment. That might encourage the tech bros to stay but does nothing for me.

Some lovely news for the morning.

Free school meals for all London primary children 'boosting health (and budgets) of families', new report shows Sadiq Khan says it's one of his 'proudest policies as Mayor'.

I haven't deactivated my account yet as not everyone I follow has signed up to bsky.

I don't post much but I am happy to connect on there and expand my blue bubble Smile

At least I can block the Kev's on there Wink

Elodie09 · 19/11/2024 10:18

Also left twitter a while ago.

A thread on the Clarkson protests

https://bsky.app/profile/torstenbell.bsky.social/post/3lbc4op5vkc2z

Big day for reasoned debate on farms/inheritance today - a debate undermined by @BBCNews repeatedly and wrongly reporting as fact that “farms worth more than £1m would have to pay inheritance tax”. This is just flatly wrong in vast vast majority of cases

Strangely, the Beeb posted this informative fact check a while ago.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c8rlk0d2vk2o

"Under the new rules, those 462 farms would be affected by the 20% inheritance tax on any value above £1m (not on the whole value).
However, as Mr Neidle points out, like for the rest of the population, there is no inheritance tax to be paid on the value of property up to £325,000, bringing the untaxed total to £1.325m.

If a farmer is married, his or her spouse would be able to pass on another £1.325m tax free, taking the total untaxed amount to £2.65m*

How many farms would be affected by Budget changes?

Estimates of the number of farms affected range from 100 to 70,000.

It's there when you read beyond the headlines

SerendipityJane · 19/11/2024 10:36

Personally I'd just not use Twitter/X. Leave the account there to piss of his Muskness when he tries to sell advertising based on x-million accounts.

It's what I'm doing with all mine 😀

Bluesky is nice enough. I set my account up just before the Muskalypse.

It’s not Clarkson’s protest. It’s thousands of ordinary farmers who were lied to by the government pre election.

grannycake · 19/11/2024 10:37

@BestIsWest Thanks for thé tips for deleting X. Been meaning to do it for a while. I like Bluesky and have found most of the people I followed

It’s 462 farmers. Not thousands. There’s nothing ordinary about anyone who’s worth north of £2 million.

Farmers being lied to - well I never.

Hows that Brexit going, by the way ?

Well that’s 462 farms possibly out of production then. Why do you want that? What incentive is there for young people going into farming.

The people it will hit - quite rightly - are the Dysons and Clarksons who bought their land as a tax dodge in the first place. There are ways round it anyway - pass the farm on now and live seven more years. Job done.

Why do you hate business so much. Dyson has a very successful farming business. Clarkson is example of diversification. They don’t let the land lie fallow.

DuncinToffee · 19/11/2024 10:54

At least they don't have to pay the ULEZ or congestion charge as tractors are exempt
