Dogs are everywhere?!

I took DS to a university open day today. Two separate families had brought their dog with them! Is this someone I've missed?! Why is this necessary?!

@m@monkeyblonde

Reminds me of a documentary on John Lewis. A woman with a dog was in there. Took no notice of the dog defacting on the floor. Just marched on. Grim!

That happened in Zara the other day except the woman did try and clear up tbf but the staff had to wash and sanitize. It also happened on a bus I was on and the dog owner got off. When the driver realised, he refused to continue and we all had to get off.

We don't want your dog on cafes, shops and pubs and I don't need your dog to relieve my stress. Thank you

@Justcallmebebes

speak for yourself!

I'm quite happy to have her dog there.

thank you

There was a dog poo on the tube the other day, just horrible.

I get this but I also think maybe some people shouldn’t have dogs if they haven’t got the space…

Oh so anyone who doesn't have a barn, shouldn't have a dog 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

I have a greyhound, and they need very little space. For a big dog, they have very low demands

OonaStubbs · 30/10/2024 21:55

People who live in flats or small town houses certainly shouldn't have dogs. They really should only be for people in detached houses. Ideally, houses surrounded by land. Living next door to a barking dog can seriously affect people's mental health.

I live in a terraced house and at one point, my neighbour asked if my dog was ok as he never heard her. Not all dogs bark all the time. I can count on one hand how many times my dog barks in a year.

TBH, kids should just be for people who live in detached houses too. I have been kept awake by a baby crying on one side, and teen meltdowns on the other.

OonaStubbs · 30/10/2024 22:57

babies and teens grow up to become adults. Dogs stay dogs.

Not sure what your point is.
Not all dogs bark. And the neighbours on one side of me are mostly adults and very noisy.

OonaStubbs · 30/10/2024 23:31

Sorry but I have been faced with the nightmare of neighbours' yap dogs too many times, and each time I have had to move. I do not like dogs at all and think they are an unnecessary nuisance.

Wow! 😮

Dogs smell! Maybe their owners don't notice it as they are used to it but they smell. They have no place in shops or cafes. Plenty of outdoor spaces for them.

yeah, just the entire sofa!! 😂😂

There seem to be a lot of anti dog people on here. Family dogs are just that. They are part of the family and give back in spades. I am always suspicious of people who don't like dogs.

Some do, some don't. Same as people.

Maybe you should buy a detached home, surrounded by land.

Why it could be? Maybe because many people feel overwhelmed by the number and behaviour of dogs around them?

Noone denies some families benefit from having the dog. Noone begrudge a calm family dog in their own garden.
People are just pointing out that the family benefit comes at the cost for everyone else, and that the cumulative cost nowadays got too high.
Big part of it is due to bad ownership, there is no benefit from dog shit in public areas or dog smell in a shop. There is no reason why a family dog should jump up other people, bark on them or approach uninvited in general.

Keep your family dog to your family and all will be good.

Young people will grow and many of them will become useful members of the society. The dog will never become more than some combination of a value for it's owner and nuisance for people around.

So one kind of nuisance is pro-social in the end, while the other is not.

Tapthisscreen · 31/10/2024 09:24

A large amount of young people will grow into absolute arseholes. Thieves, bullies, cheats, uptight mumsnetters etc. They could even become … dog owners! 😦

Rummly · 31/10/2024 09:33

TBH I’m always suspicious of the more defensive sort of dog owner. Many of them seem to value their dogs as or more than they value humans. That’s a very unpleasant mindset.

Tapthisscreen · 31/10/2024 09:38

Good for you.

I’m suspicious of people who try and belittle others for not thinking the same way as them. Very egotistical mindset.

Oh stop it with this crap, this argument always get wheeled out on dog hating threads, yes people pay taxes etc but we are allowed to have pets, those that do love them and enjoy many benefits from their companionship.

let me preempt the answer to this “but everyone else doesn’t enjoy being harassed by everyone’s dogs whaaaaa!”
