I have a real craving. Tbh I have probably tried most of them but posting just in case. Which one is your favourite? Can shop at either Sainsbury’s or M&S

Co op is good (or do you write it as coop), because its more garlicky than the rest

MiddleClassProblem · 25/10/2024 19:01

Just had to prove that you can get small pots of Ramona’s!

Ramona's for me, I prefer textured but Sabre does have a good flavour.

lljkk · 25/10/2024 19:10

I intensely dislike Sabra.
I loathe texture AND taste.
Sainsbury's, Lidl or Ramona are fine for me.
Getting thru a whole tub of Ramona is not a problem...

purplebeansprouts · 25/10/2024 19:11

I like the morrish smoked stuff from sainsburys

Yes the texture of sabra is weird

I had extra garlic when I make it so this is good to know

ChanelBoucle · 25/10/2024 19:17

I came on to say Ramona’s Jalapeño one!

PersephonesPantaloons · 25/10/2024 19:29

I have tried Tesco, Asda, Morrisons, Coop and Sabra.

Coop all the way! Thick and delicious.

Sabra is vile. It's a sort of smooth dip that tastes a bit like it might be houmous' third cousin.

Userxyd · 26/10/2024 07:05

Moorish smoked houmous is amazing 🤩

I seem to remember what put me off Ramona's is the additives

Sainsbury's Organic is my favourite supermarket's own but the Precious Pea or Moorish Smoked are lush

Making your own, either use warm cooked chickpeas or heat up tinned slightly, makes them extra smooth

That's a good tip.

I'm off to google Ottolenghi's recipe now.

GetDownkeith · 26/10/2024 07:25

Was going to say Ramona’s too. The big pot did put me off at first but I use it up in a week if it’s just me eating it.
I like Morrisons own as well the plain and the flavours. I am usually a big m&s fan of it really not a fan of theirs it’s a bit bland.

peekaboopumpkin · 26/10/2024 07:29

Ramonas hummus is a UPF, it has some weird ingredients.

If you make your own hummus it can taste bitter depending on the tahini you use. Some are way better than others. The ones in small jars from supermarkets are usually crap and a strange texture.

RampantIvy · 26/10/2024 07:39

Can you recommend a tahini brand @peekaboopumpkin

We don't have any ethinc grocery shops round here unfortunately.

LadyPenelope68 · 26/10/2024 07:47

This is THE best - available at most supermarkets. Gorgeous texture and has pine nuts on top and whole chickpeas in the bottom, it has such a great flavour.

Waitrose does a beetroot and mint one which is really unusual but amazing

they also do a Moroccan one. Lots of supermarkets do a Moroccan one but I think the Waitrose one is the best, followed by the M&S version

Waitrose caramelised onion one is also really nice. The Sainsbury’s equivalent isn’t.

ninja · 26/10/2024 07:50

You can freeze houmous so even if you buy a tub that's too big just freeze the rest

DustyLee123 · 26/10/2024 07:51

For me it has to be ALDI/LIDL, the one in a wide bowl with sweet chilli sauce 😋

CookieMonster28 · 26/10/2024 07:52

If you're ever near an Asda their own brand one is lovely

JuneFromBethesda · 26/10/2024 07:54

Another vote here for Co-op. My daughter and I both love it although we have never been able to work out why we prefer it to any other 😄

Reading this thread I’m intrigued to try some of the brands I haven’t tasted.

Bjorkdidit · 26/10/2024 07:57

Well Sabre certainly is the marmite of the hummus world. I'm in the 'don't like it' camp.

ILoveAnnaQuay · 26/10/2024 07:59

Sabra. Our local Tesco only has the plain version so I sometimes mix some caramelised onions into it.

I do make my own as well, but the reason Sabra is so creamy and snooth is that they skin the chickpeas before blending. Sod that for a game of soldiers

Agreed - it contains modified maize starch whereas you can find other ones that only contain ingredients you'd use if making it yourself. I prefer waitrose no1 olive oil as it has the best ingredients list.

I would love to try this brand but the tubs are huge, would never get my way through it!

Freeze it 👍

Grepes · 26/10/2024 08:09

Sabra or Yarden.

Those who say homemade hummus is quick, I disagree. I’ve had people’s quick blitzed hummus using tinned chickpeas and I find it bitter and grainy. Using dried or good quality jarred makes a big difference, so does shelling the cooked chickpeas. It takes forever, but the hummus is so much better.
