I have a real craving. Tbh I have probably tried most of them but posting just in case. Which one is your favourite? Can shop at either Sainsbury’s or M&S

The best one is one that's got a proper lid instead of the plastic film .
Grrrrr

ReadingInTheRain583 · 25/10/2024 10:05

The size of Ramona's is never a problem in this house 🐷

5yo DS is all about the supermarket own brands caramelised onion houmous. He'll eat a whole pot in an entire sitting with a spoon given half the chance

I would love to try this brand but the tubs are huge, would never get my way through it!

Freeze it in pots. Houmous freezes well

CurlewKate · 25/10/2024 10:07

@ScottBakula Buy some reusable lids. Game changer.

liveyoungstayactive · 25/10/2024 10:09

Marks and Spencer in our house. We go through tubs per week.

CurlewKate · 25/10/2024 10:10

We're not doing a Mumsnet chicken here are we? How long does a Ramona sized pot last? There's two of us- a pot would last a dinner and two lunches....

Waterboatlass · 25/10/2024 10:13

I seem to remember what put me off Ramona's is the additives

Sainsbury's Organic is my favourite supermarket's own but the Precious Pea or Moorish Smoked are lush

Making your own, either use warm cooked chickpeas or heat up tinned slightly, makes them extra smooth

Get one from M and S and keep it

Sabra for smooth
Ramona's for textured

I've tried making my own so many times and it never tastes as good as bought.

Agree with these. I don't like any of the M&S ones really, I think they taste too oily/a bit wrong somehow. Sainsburys Organic is quite nice though.

NewGreenDuck · 25/10/2024 10:19

Sabra. Freely available in Tesco.

LegoTherapy · 25/10/2024 10:21

M&S roasted red pepper hummus. Or Waitrose. No additives or preservatives.

floppybit · 25/10/2024 10:23

@mikado1 @Bonbon21 thanks for the recipes. As someone said up thread I haven't bothered trying to make hummus for years as it always came out bitter, but I'm going to give it another try today.

soupfiend · 25/10/2024 10:24

It the tahini you use, theres a lot of dispute about what sort of tahini should be used, how its pressed, whether hulled seeds or not etc etc.

WildFlowerBees · 25/10/2024 10:25

Homemade! Put some ice in at the end and it makes it really creamy. Much better than shop bought.

DonnaGiovanna · 25/10/2024 10:25

M&S caramelised onion, I had to stop buying it because it was too moreish 😳.

MrsSkylerWhite · 25/10/2024 10:26

Have never tasted one that’s much like home made at all. If that doesn’t bother you, the Aldi ones are ok, not as sloppy as most.

Plump82 · 25/10/2024 10:29

I find Sabra just a bit too oily for me. My favourite is the Tesco Finest Moroccan inspired one.

mitogoshigg · 25/10/2024 10:33

One can chickpeas, some lemon juice (I use Aldi) some tahini to taste, one jar is expensive but will make 20 or so batches, olive oil and salt. Blitz with a blender, you won't go back!

cardibach · 25/10/2024 09:58

It is, but it's also made in Israel so it depends whether your hummus buying is subject to any purchasing decisions you have made.

I've never actually bought it myself, my bosses do and I eat it at work, but yes I'm going to continue to eat it.

Thats fine, I’m not criticising. Some posters might want to know though.

Boycott Campaign: Sabra - CJPME - English

FYI Sabra are not a great company if you are concerned about what is happening in Gaza.

Bjorkdidit · 25/10/2024 10:49

I like Waitrose smoked houmous best. But I'm obviously a heathen as I tried something that looked like 'artisan, authentic' houmous and I didn't like it.

I think it's very personal which anyone prefers, all threads like this just end up with lists of all available products with contradictions where one person says something is the best and someone else the same thing is awful.

For anyone buying tahini, I can attest that the jar lasts for years without going off so don't worry about it going to waste. It can also be used to make a very nice yogurt tahini dressing (maybe with lemon juice too, I don't remember) that's good over marinated chicken, falafels, as part of a mezze selection etc.

This is lush.

Icedlattewithvanilla · 25/10/2024 10:55

Tesco own houmous is rubbish, watery and tasteless.
I love co-op houmous or marks houmous. Morrisons jalapeño is a fave as well

CameraCoffeeCrochet · 25/10/2024 11:00

I was just thinking I fancied hummus today and came on here and saw this thread! 😲
Ramona's is my favourite as well, wish they did a smaller tub as I'd eat all of it if I didn't stop myself.
