Would you bother going abroad for a few days?

I have the chance to go to Gran Canaria for a few times but flights are shocking.
Monday -11.45 am departure -land 4.35 pm
So loose that day
Return
Friday 6am !!
So leaving resort at 3am !
It's really putting me off
It means we only get 3 full days
4 nights
First day won't be getting to hotel till 6pm

Would you even consider this ?
Flights are costing us £55 return
Hotel is a 5 star and managed to get it £800 for 2 of us all inclusive (it honestly looks amazing )
Flights are putting me off

I personally wouldn't bother because I really dislike the stress and hassle of flying. I'd go if I was getting a full week or more away but not for three days.

Comedycook · 16/10/2024 19:18

Yes I absolutely would. I hate autumn/winter. The inconvenient flight times would be a small price to pay to go somewhere warm and sunny

HaveYouSeenRain · 16/10/2024 19:18

Without kids yes I would do it

OurLadySaphire · 16/10/2024 19:19

Absolutely!!! I did it last year and it completely rejuvenated me - and I went for a shorter time

MumChp · 16/10/2024 19:19

£400? wouldn't bother. Would book a spa near home.

HaveYouSeenRain · 16/10/2024 19:19

No better flights available or a day later?

onetreefill · 16/10/2024 19:19

It is just us no kids
We are lucky it's a small airport we depart from with only 1 terminal and you get through in minutes but it's just the flight home time putting me off

Yeah then I would definitely do it, you will be in and out quickly

User050105 · 16/10/2024 19:20

I would hate leaving the hotel at 3am. I'd not enjoy all of the last day for worrying about getting up so early. I guess you could just not go to bed. Have you got kids with you?

Apart from that then yes I'd definitely go for just a few days.

Carnationstreet7 · 16/10/2024 19:21

Pay more and get more reasonable flight times?

BendingSpoons · 16/10/2024 19:21

Personally I'd want closer to a week if it's a 4 hour flight. Plus leaving at 3am is a killer.

BitOutOfPractice · 16/10/2024 19:22

Hell yes!

MummyJ36 · 16/10/2024 19:23

It’s the flight at 3am that would make the whole thing feel rather pointless for me. I once went to Spain for 2 nights and had a great time but we left super early in the morning on the outbound flight and got a late afternoon flight home at the end. I wouldn’t have felt it was worth it if I couldn’t even get a bit of sleep on my final night!

onetreefill · 16/10/2024 19:24

That's the only flight back to our airport that day and then no other flight till 3 days later.
We could fly to a different airport but then a train journey

Hayley1256 · 16/10/2024 19:24

I'd go, you got plenty of time in the evening to jave dinner ect, I just probs wouldn't go the sleep for the flight back and then just sleep on the flight. They are really cheap flights

grimupnorthnot · 16/10/2024 19:25

my oh and dd are off to Iceland for 36 hours. Why not. But then I’ve also down a weekend in LA.

Motherrr · 16/10/2024 19:25

With kids defo not. Without kids hmm - still quite disruptive sleep wise - depends how good you are without sleep?

rightoguvnor · 16/10/2024 19:26

Madeira would be my limit, even though it's only half an hour shorter flight but it's a quick airport and my favourite hotel is just 10 minutes away, and then only 5 mins from my favourite restaurant.
Have you definitely got the hotel Thursday night, if not you're 'baseless' from about 10am on Thursday til your flight. No way would I do that.

Tiswa · 16/10/2024 19:27

Yes I would for 4 nights at that price

onetreefill · 16/10/2024 19:27

Yeah hotel is for 4 nights
Our hotel is around 15 mins from hotel so I'm assuming transfer would be picking us up at 3.30am

£1000 for 3 days and a horrendous early morning flight. No way. Book a lovely weekend in a luxury hotel at home.

Whatanidiot123 · 16/10/2024 19:29

I’d do it! Swapping this miserable damp climate for some bargain winter sun is a no brainer! I like traveling though and enjoy a flight too.

onetreefill · 16/10/2024 19:32

There's a jet2 flight
That's £350 extra and departs at 2.30pm
I honestly think I would rather just be tired than spend it

whiteroseredrose · 16/10/2024 19:32

I probably would. We went to Istanbul Saturday pm to Wednesday am and it was definitely worth it.
