Would you bother going abroad for a few days?

I have the chance to go to Gran Canaria for a few times but flights are shocking.
Monday -11.45 am departure -land 4.35 pm
So loose that day
Return
Friday 6am !!
So leaving resort at 3am !
It's really putting me off
It means we only get 3 full days
4 nights
First day won't be getting to hotel till 6pm

Would you even consider this ?
Flights are costing us £55 return
Hotel is a 5 star and managed to get it £800 for 2 of us all inclusive (it honestly looks amazing )
Flights are putting me off

Did exactly that a few years ago. So, yes.

5128gap · 16/10/2024 21:30

No. I'd drop a star and go for a full week with better flights for less with on the beach/love holidays. The flight back is horrible and would wipe out the benefit of the luxury for me.

Sallysoup · 16/10/2024 21:40

I would. The days will feel long especially if you are mainly chilling out.

I'm going to Dubai for 4 nights soon.

Ineffable23 · 16/10/2024 21:44

For me, leaving at 3:30 am would entirely remove any benefit of having been away. But I do not deal well with lack of sleep so I guess if it doesn't bother you it might be fine.

petathedragon · 17/10/2024 07:37

For that price, yes

Allschoolsareartschools · 17/10/2024 07:44

That's a bargain isn't it?
I'd definitely go, it's a fairly long flight so you can snooze on the plane after the early start. I think it's better than just hanging around waiting to be picked up.

Gorgonemilezola · 17/10/2024 08:11

No. Hate flying anywhere for less than a week.

elderflowerspritzer · 17/10/2024 08:13

I'd go if the Friday flight departed at a reasonable time. No way I'd get up in the middle of the night.

FrenchandSaunders · 17/10/2024 08:15

Wouldn’t bother me. I’ve done similar recently. Got home and into bed and slept until early evening.

FrenchandSaunders · 17/10/2024 08:16

I like flying though. Brekkie and fizz at airport, podcast on the plane and a little nap.

BigDahliaFan · 17/10/2024 08:16

Just for sun...probably not. For a city break in the sun....yes.

onetreefill · 17/10/2024 08:17

We have booked it
It's still 3 full days there and 4 nights.
If we go to bed at 10 we still get 5 hours sleep (what I'm telling myself anyway ha ha )
We land on the Thursday at half 4 so gonna just get a taxi to hotel
So hopefully there by 5.45

I have booked to go away for the same amount of time, although my flight times are slightly better and only to Majorca. The fourth day I am up and out for 8am, so no fourth day and arrive at hotel for midday all being well. For slightly better flight times I am paying more than double for the same holiday, so without DC that it is a good deal.

TBH I hate having the final day without a hotel room for a base and a shower etc I don't enjoy the feeling of just waiting to go home, hanging around the hotel.

DeanElderberry · 17/10/2024 10:35

I'd worry about the planet, but that didn't stop me having a very jealous pang when someone told me they going on a day trip to Malaga (from Ireland) to see the Christmas market, for much the same price. Proper sunshine.

Well this will be my second flight in 18 years, so I feel fine thanks!

DeanElderberry · 17/10/2024 11:15

Sorry @rewilded, I wasn't putting the boot in. I assume most people feel the same way and make their decisions to travel based on lots of things - including the health benefits of getting some warm dry weather in winter. I certainly haven't committed to never going anywhere ever again.

Am805463 · 17/10/2024 11:21

Yes definitely, we’ve done Las Vegas for 4 nights twice and it was a fab break away.

onetreefill · 17/10/2024 11:22

I had 15 years of not flying anywhere when I was caring for my late mum
It's only the last few years I've been able to go on holidays again
I don't feel too guilty tbh 🙈

I would go abroad for a few days and often do, but I want good flight times. If those were the only ones available I'd look at other destinations with better flight times.

snowbellsundersnow · 17/10/2024 11:24

Personally no but it sounds like you want to.

Funkyslippers · 17/10/2024 11:29

Bear in mind that's it's very windy out there atm!

StMarieforme · 17/10/2024 11:34

Yes. But I've hardly travelled and want to do more!

Twentybottlesofbeer · 17/10/2024 12:04

I'm very envious op I'd love a short break in the sun!

I flew to Boston for two nights a few years ago. Arrived for a late dinner on Friday and left at dinner time on Sunday. Ditto NYC.

It's never a waste of time.

Daisy03 · 17/10/2024 13:54

Your in time for dinner and a nice walk along the coast in the Monday. I'd totally go for it 💕
