Have been rewatching The Sandman on Netflix and am again blown away by Tom Sturridge as Dream/Morpheus. He's so incredibly otherworldly and compelling, such a great casting choice for that role.

Anyone fancy sharing their favourite casting decisions? (Or worst! 😁)

The young and older Rhaenyra and Alicent in House of the dragon. It is absolutely uncanny how much Emily Carey looks like Olivia Cooke, and Milly Alcock like Emma D’Arcey.

Tom Burke and holiday granger as strike and robin. And the music absolute perfect casting

Milly was also perfect with Tim Minchin in upright. If anyone has not watched this it's amazing I can't believe it's not more well known

I absolutely love the pairing of Richard Cant and Elizabeth Spriggs in the Midsomer Murders pilot 'The Killings at Badgers Drift'. And when they both returned for a later episode!

Agree with Whoopi Goldberg in Ghost too. I've watched it so many times, mainly because her performance is so good.

Meryl Streep as Florence Foster Jenkins.

Oh I LOVE that movie! I agree she was wonderful.

The Brigerton cast. Sone of the family resemblances are superb.

Korn4 · 07/10/2024 19:05

Robin Williams as Mrs Doubtfire.. nobody else could've done that role the justice.

bluecomputerscreen · 07/10/2024 19:09

arnold vosloo in the mummy

Brefugee · 07/10/2024 19:10

have not RTFT. But Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie as Jeeves and Wooster. Perfect.

Cattery · 07/10/2024 19:13

John Thaw as Morse

Puzzledandpissedoff · 07/10/2024 19:15

Ronnie Barker in Porridge
Joan Hickson as Miss Marple
Pierce Brosnan as Bond
Nigel Hawthorne as Sir Humphrey
Ed Harris as Gene Krantz in Apollo 13
Maggie Smith in Downton Abbey

Sometimes the sctors are SO suited that you just can't imagine anyone else ever having done the part

ItWasOnAStarryNight · 07/10/2024 19:18

Schitts Creek especially Dan Levy and Catherine O'Hara

Lesley Manville and Peter Mullen as Kathy and Michael in Mum

Adrian Dunbar as Ted Hastings in Line of Duty. Bent coppers 🚓

MrsMitford3 · 07/10/2024 19:25

Everyone in Mama Mia 2 was a great young version of their older selves.

Loved the casting there!

AtmosAtmos · 07/10/2024 19:27

Agree with so many here especially Jeeves and Wooster Fry and Laurie.

My Fair Lady cast, at least for looks. (The wonderful singing of Eliza was Marni Dixon)

SisSuffragette · 07/10/2024 19:36

Agree with Leo Woodall, perfect

netflixfan · 07/10/2024 19:38

Cillian Murphy in Peaky Blinders.

roseymoira · 07/10/2024 19:42

Alexis in Schitts creek

David Tennant Dr Who (even if MN hates him now)

William Shatner in Star Trek

Belathecreator · 07/10/2024 19:44

Bringing it right up to date, David Mitchell as Ludwig, can't imagine anyone else in the role.

DrFoxtrot · 07/10/2024 19:47

Also the main cast of Motherland 😆

TheGoddessMinerva · 07/10/2024 19:47

Shaun Evans in Endeavour.
Sean Bean in Sharpe (once the author clarified the back story!)
The whole cast of Ghosts (UK)

Most of my other favourites have already been mentioned.

Jamie Dornan mis-cast in Fifty Shades, should have been Matt Bomer.

Jamie Dornan mis-cast in Fifty Shades, should have been Matt Bomer.

I always thought it should have been Ian Somerhalder, however I actually didn't mind Jamie Dornan in it in the end

Talking of Jamie Dornan, he was perfect in The Fall.

INeedEvidenceMum · 07/10/2024 20:05

All the casting in My Brilliant Friend (Italian drama)

FoxtrotOscarFoxtrotOscar · 07/10/2024 20:06

I loved the entire cast of The Good Wife, esp. Stockard Channing (inspired), Alan Cumming and Christine Baranki.

Sussurations · 07/10/2024 20:07

Totally agree with both Joan Hickson as Miss Marple and David Suchet as Poirot, and also Hugh Fraser as Hastings. Just perfect!

Hugh Laurie is wonderful as Bertie Wooster but Stephen Fry just isn’t Jeeves to me.

The casting in the tv adaption of A Dance to the Music of Time was very good - especially Simon Russell Beale as Widmerpool, but I also loved Jonathan Cake as Peter Templer.

I thought Ben Whishaw was great as Richard II in the Hollow Crown series.
