What would your dream house include?

In the absence of staff, an emancipated but diligent house elf, giant leap forwards in robotic technology, mine would be a side entrance into a boot room which massive abouts of spaces for sports shoe & bag storage and underfloor heating so that kit abandoned on the floor magically dries. Importantly, this would be a separate entrance to the front door so that you're not constantly risking breaking your neck or apologising to visitors,
delivery drivers etc for the dump that is your entrance hall. The fact that the gorgeously proportioned entrance hall was one of the selling points and the beautiful tiles extortionate makes this situation particularly galling!

4/5 bedrooms so my kids can have their own rooms. 2 reception rooms. A bath! A utility room.

Buffypaws · 29/09/2024 12:02

Ooh a bathroom with a separate bath on legs and waterfall shower in a wet room type corner

Runningupthecurtains · 29/09/2024 12:05

A front door in the middle, chimneys at each end, window seats, a swing seat hanging from a willow in the garden. A snug/library with comfy chairs, a roaring fire and loads of book shelves. A utility room, a boot room (can be the same room), a craft room (could be the library), a sweeping staircase, a kitchen with enough space for a rocking chair. Views over open countryside.

Load of storage so I hide all the bloody junk that is the bane of life.

Toddlerteaplease · 29/09/2024 12:07

A utility room!

I remember reading the wife of an American t.v. mogul had a gift wrapping room in their mansion.

In that vein I would have a travel packing room, somewhere to keep the suitcases permanently and not have to hoik them out of the loft every time.
A great big worktop for folding and putting the clothes into piles, and some of the folding stools for suitcases that the hotels have.

Candy Spelling! Classic 90s moment.

I don't care about gift wrapping, just a massive walk-in closet so I can see what I have, an indoor/outdoor pool and a large bathtub with a view. Beautiful waxed hardwood floors everywhere and very high ceilings.

DuesToTheDirt · 29/09/2024 12:13

Yy to more storage. I am constantly decluttering but it doesn't seem to be enough, and currently my home office is a dumping ground for loads of crap.

And a big porch or vestibule so we could put lots of shoes in it instead of a couple of pairs (which we fall over), with the rest cluttering up the hall. I suppose that's storage too!

And a decent sized third bedroom instead of a tiny single.

A garden that gets the sun from dawn to dusk, rather than lunchtime to late afternoon.

RabbitsRock · 29/09/2024 12:20

Sea views from every room & that minimalist look with natural colours/fabrics. I miss having an en suite shower room so definitely one of those off the master bedroom. Big kitchen with a double oven & an island. A library would be heaven. Music room with a grand piano.

Yes! This sounds perfect!

Only thing to add is no close neighbours and a walled garden for my dogs to run around in.

MrMucker · 29/09/2024 12:36

Just a basic 3 bed house where nothing is broken please, so we can spend our hard earned cash on memorable experiences rather than overpriced soffits or messy replastering or storm damaged fencing.

When I find it I'll let you know so you can buy the (appropriately distanced) neighbouring one.

I live in my dream house on the North Wales coast with a view of the sea from every room.

We downsized when our children all left home but when they were younger, my dream house would have had a separate utility room, a boot room, a basement playroom and a self cleaning kitchen 💖

I live in my dream cottage in mid-Wales! Forest rather than sea views.
Possible additions would be heating of some sort upstairs and a downstairs toilet.

chisanunian · 29/09/2024 12:44

A pantry.
A library / study.
A music room for DH to keep all his stuff in, and big enough for band rehearsals.
A conservatory (the proper sort for growing plants in).
An extra-large utility room.
A couple more bedrooms.
At least one downstairs loo.
Plenty of built-in cupboards.
An airing cupboard.
Barns.

Humdrumdumb · 29/09/2024 12:47

I’m pretty much in my dream home but I’d have:

the rooms a bit bigger
a proper laundry room with heated drying racks (and a robot to hang things up/take them down/ put away in the correct places although I know this is not in scope for this thread)
a pan extra utility room just for cat litter trays
a deeper bath like a pp mentioned
a wider lane to the house so we don’t get held up by the neighbours deliveries or have to reverse to a passing point
a high wall around the garden
no heating bills
a lift so I could continue to use upstairs when I’m doddery

autienotnaughty · 29/09/2024 12:51

It would be a five bed detached with-

Lots of light/windows/sun facing
High ceilings
A library with floor to ceiling shelves and a ladder
Balcony on our sun facing bedroom
Sea views
A soft play/ indoor trampoline/sensory room
Large conservatory
Stand alone tub in main bathroom
Utility room
Office
Games room
Large kitchen with aga and island and double American style fridge

CraftyNavySeal · 29/09/2024 12:52

Closets. In America a room cannot legally be called a bedroom unless it has closets and they are right.

2 dishwashers.
All singing all dancing heating/cooling system so the house is never cold or mouldy.
Pantry, utility room, parking space with charging point so I can have an electric car.

Autumnismyfavouritetimeofyear · 29/09/2024 13:02

A utility room, a mud room, and upstairs drinks kitchen. A balcony off the bedroom and a huge terrace with a lovely view. Space for a separate bar area downstairs (even though I dont drink much anymore). A walk in wardrobe with dressing room, so that the bedroom does not have to have any of those things in and is tranquil and calm.

chisanunian · 29/09/2024 13:12

Ooh... thanks @Humdrumdumb for reminding me.

A walled kitchen garden.

BehindTheSequinsandStilettos · 29/09/2024 13:12

My dream house would have a cinema room, a wet room with a rainfall shower, an adjoining door between two homes (Helena Bonham-Carter and her ex Tim Burton had this iirc), a wild flower garden with a swing chair and an outdoor jacuzzi. It would be in Edinburgh or Anglesey and it would be brightly painted like houses in Sorrento or Tobermory. I'd have a Smeg fridge and an Aga and pretend I was posh. I'd also have a padded room/ballpit my ND child could throw their tennis ball around in or velcro themselves to the walls and a room which was essentially a graffiti/wall art/kids scribbling all over room with all their artwork on one wall and the rest changing whenever they saw fit, and finally, I'd have a cosy snug just for me with a fireplace, a teamaker, a velvetiser , a book shelf, a reclining chair and a fishtank.

I can afford none of the above but a girl can dream.

Buffypaws · 29/09/2024 13:13

Chris Hemsworth is in the dream house doing all the housework and making me cocktails

DeltaAlphaDelta79 · 29/09/2024 13:18

Be on the norfolk broads, with a private mooring for my own boat 😁

DillDanding · 29/09/2024 13:24

Yes to a boot room with outside access and a dog shower and underfloor heating, so a wet dog would be happy to snooze and dry out in there.

I’d have a massive upstairs laundry room so washing didn’t have to be carried downstairs and back up again.

The downstairs utility would have a 2nd dishwasher. We entertain a lot and one dishwasher isn’t enough.

His’n’hers studies.

A home gym.

JudyP · 29/09/2024 13:41

A weird one but 2 friends have a butlers pantry between kitchen and dining room and I love it - when they have people over for dinner there is space to 'hide' prepped food and to make drinks and then to have desserts ready to serve but the kitchen stays sort of tidy - its like a magic little room

hanali · 29/09/2024 13:43

A large kitchen, dining room, living room, utility room, downstairs loo, bathroom, ensuite, three bedrooms, double garage, a large back garden.

Cynic17 · 29/09/2024 13:44

A library. With floor to ceiling books on every wall, a couple of squishy sofas and a log fire. Maybe a discreet coffee machine in an alcove round the corner. And a door I can lock from the inside!

tsmainsqueeze · 29/09/2024 13:53

A lot of what is mentioned here but also i would love a lush green cottage garden with a very gentle slope down onto my own remote private sandy beach.
