I've always loved this line in Harry Potter, because it was the way she delivered it with such a recognisable smile that so many of us do when we do something we've wanted to do for ages.

“I've always wanted to use that spell!”

Fabulous actress. From a golden era of fabulous British actors.

She was, from what I understand, quite difficult to work with!

I was going to post that!

A wonderful actress.

It's strange that The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie isn't available anymore on DVD and you can't stream it on any platform. Hopefully one of the TV channels will show it soon.

A couple of her lines from this film I wanted to share: "Six inches is perfectly adequate. More is vulgar!"

Bluebellsinthewind · 29/09/2024 17:24

It's on YouTube. That's where I got it yesterday. It's free to watch.

I hadn't realised at the time that her then husband is Teddy in it!

If you have access to it, I highly recommend the Sky Arts Discovering Films episode on Maggie Smith. It's been a joyful hour of my life

Is that one of the series with Mark Cousins where he sits down with an actor and talks about clips from their performances? I recently saw the episodes with Donald Sutherland and Lauren Bacall, which were both fascinating, and great fun.

No, that was ‘Scene by Scene’, back in the late 90s.

I’m hoping the BBC will screen some of her films later this month, in tribute.
