Such sad news, but a life well lived, and what a great legacy of work she leaves. RIP Dame Maggie.

That is sad, she was a brilliant actress. One of those people you hoped would go on forever.

Same. Awesome woman and actor.

LauderSyme · 27/09/2024 14:29

RIP Dame Maggie. Your acting was supremely superb and your presence stole the scene every time X

Onehappymam · 27/09/2024 14:29

Although she reached a grand old age it feels like she had so much more to give and we’ve lost that. So sad.

Grew up watching The Secret Garden & Hook and loved her in both.

Elseaknows · 27/09/2024 14:30

Just read this 😭I'm gutted.

Calliopespa · 27/09/2024 14:30

Am shedding a few tears having seen this on the news - not that she’d have known me even if she accidentally sat on me, but because I think many of us feel she really brought a lot to our lives.

My favourite actress: rest in peace Dame Maggie.

HeartandSeoul · 27/09/2024 14:33

I just heard the news 😞. She was amazing in everything I saw her in. Thanks for the laughs, Maggie ♥️.

Hydrangea58 · 27/09/2024 14:33

RIP Dame Maggie. You brought joy to millions.

AHFBridport · 27/09/2024 14:34

Oh no, this has shocked me. I mean, she was obviously elderly but she had been working right up to very recently. RIP and thank you for all the pleasure you gave us <3.

NewGreenDuck · 27/09/2024 14:35

An absolutely wonderful actress. RIP.
May her memory be a blessing.

AllTheWatersTurnedToClouds · 27/09/2024 14:35

No! Oh that's sad. She was wonderful.

Procrastinates · 27/09/2024 14:38

Another here who is deeply saddened to hear of this news. 😔 She was truly fabulous and led such an interesting life, one of those rare talents who could portray so many characters so perfectly.

whymewhyme · 27/09/2024 14:39

So sad. Like others have said I hoped she’d go in forever. Loved her in anything I saw her in.

pilates · 27/09/2024 14:40

Loved her character in Downton - brilliant actress!

diddl · 27/09/2024 14:42

Oh how sad.

89 is a good age but still not much comfort to the family.

Strangerthanfictions · 27/09/2024 14:45

She amassed an incredible body of work. there was just something incredibly special about her. I genuinely feel bereft

Danikm151 · 27/09/2024 14:47

Mrs Medlock in secret garden, Mother superior in the sister act films. The lady in the van, keeping mum

i’ll have to give them a watch this weekend

LeoOakley · 27/09/2024 14:47

Saddened by this news - even though she lived to a good age.

A national treasure, a character and actor that is irreplaceable.

She has left us with a superb catalogue of her stellar work.

May she rest in fabulousness.

HeartandSeoul · 27/09/2024 14:49

Dame Maggie was one of the few people you let out an audible gasp when you hear the announcement. To me, she was on a level with Sir David Attenborough, in the sense that she was one of our finest stars, and one who felt like a member of the family ✨.

She received numerous accolades including two Academy Awards, five BAFTA Awards, four Emmy Awards, three Golden Globe Awards, and a Tony Award as well as nominations for six Laurence Olivier Awards. Smith is one of the few performers to earn the Triple Crown of Acting.
