Oh, god @HelenaJustina long day for all of you. 😯
I hope things get better re school. Is it the scaries? If it's too personal no need to elaborate.
Havoc starts week after next. We went to school playground earlier for a bit of play and walk around. Went to school door and chatted that's where we'll be going again soon. It's 30c with humidity so feels line 36c. 🥵
Stop playing with me weather!!!! I was all set to start baking banana bread again. Now I don't know if I need to put my heated throw on the bed yet, or not.

Penguinsa · 05/09/2024 21:28

Just been gardening with DH though could only do 1.75 hours as got dark but still managed to clear a lot of leaves, do some weeding, plant a couple of new plants, put some recycling in the bin and get the bulbs unpacked. The day are starting to shorten and at 8pm we couldn't see too much so came in.

DH went to get a kebab but the van has closed earlier maybe due to shorter days so he's off to the Chinese. I will get a mixed starter box.

One of our two green bins was damaged, lid came off, when they collected it so ordered a replacement one.

Hope checks are done quickly for your DS MissC

That sounds super busy Helena hope you get chance for a rest at some point.

Exciting Havoc starting school, hope it goes well.

Nice of you to help with adoption Lemons and thanks.

sproutsandparsnips · 05/09/2024 23:19

Busy busy Helena!
I bet your garden is lovely Penguinsa. Hope DD has fantastic time in lovely Venice. DS is planning a trip to Magaluf next year.......
Hope you can get allergies sorted Miss.
DS did UCAT on Tuesday, he was happy with result, it wasn't stellar but he can still go with planned university applications although a couple will be aspirational.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 05/09/2024 23:24

Congrats to ds! @sproutsandparsnips

Penguinsa · 05/09/2024 23:27

Thanks Sprouts Congrats on UCAT being done, does he have results already then. The test DD did results came mid Jan after you knew if uni had made an offer or not.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 06/09/2024 07:17

God it's gross here... 72% humidity. Even though temp has dropped from 30c to 21c it's still so hot as no breeze. Took dc out for a drive and an ice cream after dinner. Went to La Casa Gelato, I've mentioned it before, and got a scoop of chocolate raspberry sorbetto and a couple of cake pops Spotted a house draped in lights so took a pic. I think they were having a wedding party. Also a pic of Science World from former Olympic/Athlete's Village.

Had a free day yesterday so went to Westfield. Had a 'lunchtime special' in Rosas Thai. Ordered the aubergine stir fry and rice. What came was chicken curry and rice! However i then got my right order. Tried a cocktail Chilli lagerita. Not to be recommended. Just tasted of lager. Oh well one must try these things! In the evening met friends for a trip to the theatre. Was quite good (and free! Friend got first night free tickets. About the first wave of English (ne'er do wells) that were shipped to Australia and the way it affected the country and it's original people. One of my poor friends had to make an emergency Primark stop to buy more clothes as she got soaked! I remembered to buy some bread milk and veggie butter spread later but could not carry loo roll back so really must buy some today! Funny how I keep forgetting loo roll but never forget to buy chocolate!

We've got a possible buyer for our house

We've got a possible buyer for our house

That was quick, @GettingStuffed!

MissConductUS · 06/09/2024 20:11

@GettingStuffed, have they made an offer yet?

Not much new here. I'm glad it's Friday. DS has been looking at apartments online. He wants a short commute into the city. Those are more expensive than the ones further away. It's interesting to see him dealing with economics in real life. We're hoping to have a FaceTime call with DD and SiL this weekend.

The men in high viz have managed to lower the water level in the reservoir by about three feet. Dear girl cat is enjoying the cattasaurus bed. Dear boy cat seems less interested.

Hello, Cat. 😻You look so comfy!

MissConductUS · 06/09/2024 20:31

I know, it's the perfect size for her to curl up on. I want to get a picture of her on top and him inside looking out, but I don't know if that will ever happen.

sproutsandparsnips · 06/09/2024 20:53

Sounds like a lovely day @Deathraystare!
Hope DS can find apartment he likes @MissConductUS
Thank you @Mumtobabyhavoc and @Penguinsa, yes they get the result printout as they leave. It's done in the same place as driving theory test. There were different tests being done at the same time - DS was the last one out he thinks he was the only one doing the UCAT at that time!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 06/09/2024 21:58

Wow! That's an interesting way to do tests.

DandyDandylion · 07/09/2024 08:53

@Mumtobabyhavoc wow that house looks beautiful, what a simple idea.

@Deathraystare I haven’t had a Thai meal in a while but there is one opening just up the road soon. This is a very old pub that has struggled to find its niche over the years. It has never been under one manager for more than five years. Hopefully the food will be nice and they will offer delivery, that way they should have plenty of trade.

@GettingStuffed hope your home sale goes well, have you found the house you wish to move to?

@MissConductUS I wonder how one lowers such a large area of water by such a big amount. Are there areas of flooding in your region that have to be managed? I didn’t think we had flooding here until last year. There was so much rainfall some local houses suffered surface water flooding. It was all the houses who had tarmac drives taking up the whole of their frontage. The water has to go somewhere. Toothless dandycat purred when I showed him your cat, think he coverts that bed.

@sproutsandparsnips how things have moved on since the driving instructor asked a couple of theory questions at the end of the test. Ds will need to apply for his provisional licence soon and book his theory test. Then we need to find a cheap manual car as we both drive automatics. I want him to have a car where it doesn’t matter if he scrapes the odd wall 🫣 Well done to the future medic taking his first steps, does he have any idea what he wants to do eventually?

Dull news of the day is that I saw this in a public bathroom yesterday and it made me smile.

Come and tell me your dull and unexciting news 31: Calmly through the day
MissConductUS · 07/09/2024 11:45

@DandyDandylion, the reservoir is close to the Hudson River and is uphill from it. They can lower the water level by opening a valve on a large pipe that drains water out to the river. Flooding is fairly rare here, but it does happen when there are very heavy rains in a short period of time, as would happen with a hurricane or tropical storm. Our house is atop a hill, and we've never had water enter the house or basement. We're also in the woods, so that helps, too, I think.

I was making cookies last night when my hand mixer, a KitchenAid about 10 years old, stopped working. I went to a department store to get a replacement so I could finish the cookies, but I had to get a Cuisinart instead. It finished the job, and I like it. We have a Cuisinart toaster that's been great, so I thought it was a safe alternative.

DS has a friend from uni who is visiting for the weekend (hence the cookies, which are oatmeal chocolate chip). He arrived fairly late last night and is sleeping in DD's room. They're planning on taking the train into NYC today. I have to find out if they plan on returning in time for dinner.

Deathraystare · 07/09/2024 18:31

@DandyDandylion
Yes a number of pubs do that. Very often very authentic too. There is two or three . down the road from me and one I know in Richmond by the river. My favourite cuisine!

sproutsandparsnips · 07/09/2024 20:50

@DandyDandylion it's a constant stream of the next hurdle it seems at this age!
It has rained very heavily yesterday and this evening. DS2 was due to play away to a team in the Gower, quite a long way, tomorrow but they have called it off due to poor state of the roads.

Penguinsa · 07/09/2024 22:23

DD back from Venice yesterday and home. Her boyfriend left for Bristol Uni today.

DH and I have been gardening today and also getting things for uni from Dunelm for DD. I planted lots of bulbs and sweet pea seeds and some lawn seeds on the patches which need more on and did some weeding. DH was cutting some branches down.

Interesting about tests Sprouts

That looks lovely Havoc

Love a Thai Death

Cookies sound great MissC

Just had a Chinese takeaway as was late after gardening. Looks like operation will be on 24th.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 07/09/2024 22:39

🤞Penguinsa 😊

bizzey · 08/09/2024 00:09

Ohh fingers crossed Penguinisa.

How did Venice go ? 😁..

Nice that your DD and her bf have unis relatively close to each other.
.

Penguinsa · 08/09/2024 00:14

Thanks Bizzey and Havoc

Well Venice Bizzey I have had very teenage conversation with DD about.

Me to DD - DD did you enjoy Venice? DD to me - Yes
Me to DD - Did you stay in Venice itself DD to me - Yes
Me to DD - Did you sightsee in Venice DD to me - Sort of.

🤔

Mumtobabyhavoc · 08/09/2024 01:38

Sounds about right, Penguinsa. Try, I chat with someone looking to go to Venice. What should she avoid/do? 🤷‍♀️

lazy day today as I tried to nap as sleep has been crap. Got some much needed paper shredding done, though. Just put dinner on: pesto salmon and prawns; zucchini and asparagus; and brown and wild rice. Should be ready in about 20 mins. Nursing baby in the meantime and scrolling...
Hazy with wildfire smoke here. It's still fairly warm and humid ad well.

bizzey · 08/09/2024 02:29

Penguinisa 🤣🤣🤣!

We are having an amazing thunderstorm at the moment !

Couldn't sleep so watching TV with headphones on ..and can hear the thunder through them 😯 .

I do love a thunderstorm !

bizzey · 08/09/2024 02:30
