Lovely photos of the Cheshire countryside and local farm, and the Lumiere festival.
havoc I hope you'll all be able to shake the colds
penguinsa sounds like a lovely visit from DD, and we'll done to her on becoming an ambassador.
MissC the backsplash will look terrific. I'm glad you won't be disrupted over the upcoming holidays and you have time to consider details like drawer pulls and layout.
bizzey Christmas presents already?!!

I went to the (very jolly) birthday dinner on Saturday at a steakhouse and ate my weight, give or take. I waddled home swearing I wouldn't eat again for a week, but then DD made gingerbread. What's a girl to do??

mathanxiety · 12/11/2024 04:23

Well, not we'll..

DucklingSwimmingInstructress · 12/11/2024 07:38

goodness gracious @bizzy, how organised is that!

gingerbread doesn't count, @mathanxiety Much too tasty to have calories in.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 12/11/2024 18:27

Math, you made me google a recipe. I love gingerbread cake!!! I think I'll do one for Christas now. 🤗

Bizzey, saw your thread. I had same earlier this year. My optometrist, well-trusted 10+ years, advised me to use very warm compresses throughout the day (very hot wet washcloth wrung out) and ensure you wash your eye area using soap/baby soap gently once a day. No eye make-up. Toss old eye make-up and clean all brushes as bacteria can irritate. I was also advised to purchase eye wipe pads ($30) which I used for about a week twice a day. After about a week I stopped using the pads, but kept up with the compresses 2-3x p/day. She also cautioned me from over cleansing/using compresses for too long. A couple weeks of diligence should do it.
Also, non-medicated eye moisturizing drops, just saline, for dry eyes used daily.
All the basic proper eye make-up care. Irritants cause eyes to over/produce tears which clog the ducts and exacerbate the problem. Dry eyes = more tears as eyes try to stay moist. Use drops daily 1-2x and before bed.
This can be chronic, so if it flares start the regimen again. It's also a good move to not wear eye make-up daily. When I'm up in the middle of the night I use a warm wet cloth to wipe my eyes clean, too.

DucklingSwimmingInstructress · 12/11/2024 20:58

Also, non-medicated eye moisturizing drops, just saline, for dry eyes used daily. Hylo make some good ones. I use them for dry eyes to avoid corneal abrasion.

Oldest son and I watched the old film Waterworld together. I'm often the worst mother going, ever, in all of history, so this was lovely.

IWanderedLonely · 12/11/2024 21:21

Deathraystare · 13/11/2024 07:39

@IWanderedLonely

So sorry to hear your news. Glad she died peacefully.

@Penguinsa

To be honest they weren't given much to work with! They have circulated his picture from CCTV to local nick . I did ask my boss to get someone from the ward he mentioned to view footage in case they know who he visits and may be know his name but of course that did not happen (sigh). No point pressing it further as nothing/Nobody was harmed and the other staff deal with this every day (much more than I do)..

Off to my brother's place in Hampshire (UK not New Hampshire!!). Only for two days but it will be restful. He is a councillor so will be out and about. He also plays the organ in a church. His wife is on the internet most of the time!

They have two cats so I will look forward to meeting them for longer this time. They are not as 'floofy as Floof @Penguinsa so he is still top cat!

Deathraystare · 13/11/2024 07:40

@@Penguinsa

What are those biscuits? Are they Christmassy?

Penguinsa · 13/11/2024 08:10

Enjoy the time at your brothers Death

These are the Christmas Merrilosossus biscuits which are lovely but had to get DH to hide them after 2. We had the Christmas selection tin with peacock on it rather than this one but has 4 of these in it. Its half chocolate and has fruit, nuts and spices in.

Floof woke me up at 5.50am poking me with his fluffy paw twice. I stumbled out of bed and he put his big paw on the electric heater so I turned it on and he purred and jumped on the bed with me and then fell asleep and woke at a more reasonable 7am for his tuna.

Deathraystare · 13/11/2024 09:29

@Penguinsa

Oh right the biscuits sound nice!

Clever Floof!

MissConductUS · 13/11/2024 21:07

DH has signed the contract with the builder, and ordered the cabinets, worktops and windows. The windows will take about 8 weeks to come in, so that will be just about the time our contractor will be ready. The windows are a standard size, but still built to order as you have options for how many panes of glass, what type of coating, color, etc.

I had no idea they would take that long.

Sounds delicious @Mumtobabyhavoc.
Nice biscuits @Penguinsa.
Sorry about the eyes @bizzey.
Have a lovely time @Deathraystare.
Exciting @MissConductUS!

DandyDandylion · 13/11/2024 21:49

Just had a quick skim read to catch up and sorry to hear your news @IWanderedLonely . I hope the death admin (which is apparently called sadmin) is going smoothly. We had all this last year with my FIL and there really is an awful lot to organise when you are not feeling your best.

We are gearing up for a weekend away. It will be my dh’s 50th birthday and he didn’t want any big celebrations. So we are off to centre parcs, we will walk, swim and enjoy eating out. It is also their Christmas period so dd and I will enjoy the lights displays and singing reindeer.

bizzey · 14/11/2024 02:30

Catching up x
@IWanderedLonely so sorry to hear your news 🙏💔.
Hope you and your siblings can find comfort with each other at this sad and difficult time.x

bizzey · 14/11/2024 02:35

Havoc and Duckling ... thanks for the eye advice !

I had a really early and stressful hospital appointment with my DB this morning.
And stupidly fell asleep after diner so I m awake now ! 😀😀.

I couldn't get to sleep the night before as I was worried about the 6am alarm going off ...so that added to my tiredness after dinner !

Don't feel like I slept at all the night before !

DucklingSwimmingInstructress · 14/11/2024 10:35

Youngest had a good appt at the hospital for his eyes. His prescription has changed a bit but some of the symptoms he's been getting are tiredness-related, the wonderful doctor thinks. Need to take him to the house-doctor on Tuesday for it, it's been going on a while.

bizzey · 14/11/2024 17:09

Such a weird day for me today !

Started with a suprise phone call from DWP about ds 's renewal for PIP .

I didn't know they were going to ring .
I answered 2 questions only ..a d she said that is fine ...I will send off the renewal and you will hear shortly .
🤷‍♂️...we will wait and see !

I looked up the delivery ume for the eye drops I ordered from Amazon....
Only o find that the address was still stuck on ( dad's address 80 miles away ) ***
ds 1 's address as he ordered last 😂!

I then left my house for my dreaded long awaited hair appointment. .... Only to get to the end of the path and realise...I had not put my glasses in 😲.

What a weird day !
