Penguinsa, good to know your dh is back and Floof has set him straight. 😂
It'll be nice having dd home. 🙂

Have used wand vacuum to clean up morning breakfast mess (bread/crumbs everywhere) and spot-cleaned couch of peach juice. Put sheets in wash. Am attempting to watch a morning talk show that I've re-started 3x (dc are interferring with tv watching!) 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Still coughing and congested (upper and lower now).

Weather is decent, so will take restless dc out for a walk.

More laundry later along with a proper vacuum and likely wash floors.

MissConductUS · 07/11/2024 19:41

Penguinsa, good point about the better builders being booked out ahead of time. I think people find her trustworthy, which you don't always find in building contractors. The good ones are always busy. And it will be nice to have the house in order for Christmas. One thing she may be able to do is replace the windows in the kitchen between now and then. We lose a lot of heat through the current windows, which are old and a single pane of glass.

Does Floof have his own Christmas tree? What a lucky boy.

Havoc, it's concerning that you're still coughing. Is it dry or productive?

I went to the allergist yesterday for a skin test. I reacted to nothing, not even the histamine positive control. They're going to repeat the test next Monday.

  • TMI warning*

Miss: coughed up yucky stuff this morning. I knew the cough was my body trying to get that out the last few days.

mathanxiety · 07/11/2024 20:20

havoc if you're able to lay your hands on some guaifenesin, it might help.

I had the day off today and had marked my calendar for the grand opening of a new Aldi. When I got there the car park was crammed and there was a line stretching from the door all the way through the car park, and two blocks down the street, so I went later after picking DD up from her job. It was all very shiny and new and surprisingly well stocked considering the legions that had descended on it earlier, but the aisle of shame only had seasonal items and not the wondrous stuff advertised in their flyer.

Deathraystare · 07/11/2024 20:21

Work has been a bit of a pain as everything seems kept together by sellotape! Not literally but.... our door (that should be secure) is not shutting properly so we have to lock it. Imagine how many times we have to unlock it -people wanting the loo/people coming in for papers/keys etc etc.

Also for three days we have not had proper internet cover (I get on mumsnet and cannot post!! The horror!). Somehow our phones are attached to the internet (nope no idea how but to do with us being able to skype if we wanted (nope). So that means we can hardly ever put calls through.

Absolute pain in the arse.

Luckily off tomorrow. Going to try and find the Citizens advice place re accommodation. Also going to a shop that deals with EVRI collections as I was sent 2 nail polishes (for SIL birthday) and badly packaged. One smashed. Went to the local Tesco that did EVRI collections and they stopped doing so on 28 October! Great!

Also getting another suitcase to act as clothes storage and possibly Primarni for gloves and scarf as getting a bit chilly.

My friend has put audio books on my ipod but I cannot yet finish the registration as I left my phone at work and I have to send them my phone to get a text. Came back to work to do so but of course the internet is not working. Scream!!!!!!!

In work Saturday (i have no internet) so hoping the porter who helps with technical matters can help me!

Deathraystare · 07/11/2024 20:25

@Mumtobabyhavoc

Poor you , you have been very poorly for quite a time.

@@mathanxiety

Ooh a shiny new Aldi (sounds like a car!!).

I have to take 2 buses to my nearest one.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 08/11/2024 08:50

Took dc out after dinner for walk downtown and to take in some art installations for the Lumiere festival.

Oh lovely! The dragon is great fun. Light festivals are such happy things.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 08/11/2024 09:00

And spent some time in the Hotel Vancouver lobby. Havoc enjoyed going around and around and around the revolving doors and baby was laughing while watching, so I picked up baby and we joined Havoc. Free entertainment. 😂 Hotel guests were (thankfully) quite amused at the smiles and laughter.
Also checked out the gorgeous Dior window displays.
(my pic doesn't do it justice, though. The other one of a unicorn won't load.)

Decided to try again. Still, my pic doesn't show how lovely the display really was.

Took dc to Lumiere again. This time we saw the aurora exhibit on the water. It was pouring rain, but it eased a bit for a while so we walked to Canada Place and back. Shopping after in W Van. Rain boots for Havoc. Snow boots and birthday outfit for baby.

That unicorn is stunning! just gorgeous.

Penguinsa · 09/11/2024 09:45

Wonderful pictures Havoc such lovely trips you do, love seeing around Canada. I hope you feel better soon.

That's good you have someone so good doing your kitchen MissC and yes Floof has our second Christmas tree which is upstairs, he claimed it last year. He has been sitting under it gazing at the lights.

DD home last night for the weekend and been lovely to catch up on all her news and tell her all of ours as its always so rushed when she is at university. Its 8 or 9 week terms x 3 there but very full on. They have a tradition at Oxford that first years can "marry" other students and then they get children in their second year. Apparently a girl proposed to her and now they are married. She also has a college Dad. I'm not entirely sure what these things entail as didn't have them at Cambridge but its nice she is connected with others and enjoying it.

@Mumtobabyhavoc It is lovely!

Deathraystare · 09/11/2024 14:10

Still our 'secure' door to the office is not mended. Bloody place put together with string and sellotape (very slight exaggeration!).

Was meant to go for a smear test today. I went but cannot relax and clamp up. I have been referred to a hospital but what will they do differently? Bash me on the head with a mallet so I am out for the count??? I feel really bad because of the receptionist dying of cervical cancer (well, 'down there' cancer anyway) but I cannot relax at all!

The Dr will have my list of health problems ready on Wednesday so I can show the housing bloke who I saw yesterday. I had not heard back from him so I went down there assuming I would just leave a message to ask him if he had seen my emails and within 2 hours I saw him. Very nice man he sounded.

On the way there a pigeon shat on my head, I think that was a good sign.!

ShoesOnFirstThenCar · 09/11/2024 18:54

Death hope they find a way to do it that isn’t too traumatic for you 🤞🏻, and I think birds shitting on your head is good luck so yay to that!
Penguinsa lovely to have DD home for a spell, enjoy your “Christmas”
Havoc those are lovely lights
Miss hope the repeat test goes ok

Again, not much news here. DD been to club this morning where they made biscuits (think they were meant to be reminiscent of poppies as she’d also made a paper poppy, though DH did question when we got home why she had made boobies 😁), but they forgot to give them to me inside so one of the staff followed me to the car park to hand them over with a “sorry the icing is still wet” warning. Hands covered in icing, had to lick myself clean before I could touch the steering wheel.
Im just waiting for some time to pass to watch Strictly on the iplayer so I can fast forward all the (imo) nonsense

Mumtobabyhavoc · 09/11/2024 19:29

Shoes, "Hands covered in icing, had to lick myself clean". Of course you did! Needs must and all that. 😀
Penguinsa, doing anything special for visit with dd?
Death, I would suggest a combo of Tylenol, Advil and either a Clonazepam/Diazepam/Lorazepam. Speak with your doctor.

For interests's sake this is how our gov't is trying to get more screening done (various reasons: comfort and cost):

http://www.bccancer.bc.ca/screening/cervix

Rainy morning here. So, it was necessary to make pancakes with dulce de leche and bananas. Obligatory lattes as well. Laundry is on. Doc on tv. Referring dc.

sproutsandparsnips · 09/11/2024 20:46

Just catching up.
@Mumtobabyhavoc pictures are lovely. Did you say a while ago that the Hotel Vancouver was the Fairmont hotel? The display looks beautiful. Your food sounds amazing too!
@Deathraystare I hate hate hate having smears too. Luckily now only have them every 5 years. The printer was playing up in work yesterday so we wasted a lot of time trying to fix it. We really rely on it in our little department to print labels and blood forms.
@MissConductUS yes just think at least no disruption before Christmas!
@ShoesOnFirstThenCar I'm sure the biscuits were lovely and worth the stickiness everywhere!
@Penguinsa I do like cottage pie especially with root veg mash on top with swede, carrot potato on top.
Been cooking again for the team's game today - pasta bake and garlic bread for 60. Now relaxing. Enjoyed lovely walk this week.

sprouts - beautiful photos! Where were they taken and is that a canal or a river?

havoc sounds like a great evening for you all. We won't have Christmas lights here until the end of the month/ Thanksgiving.

I'm heading out tonight for a birthday dinner of a friend at a fairly nice restaurant. DD has told me to bring back a doggy bag.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 09/11/2024 21:22

Sprouts, yes, Fairmont Hotel Vancouver. Before Fairmont bought it, it was the Hotel Vancouver and is still called same by locals. It has been refurbished beautifully.
(Eta: lovely looking walking path.)
(2nd edit: Math: I've seen christmas trees up in some homes already!)

Havoc loves the new rain boots. I bought the Hatley brand in navy with yellow trim. They look very classic and smart. I think we need to take them out for a puddle test! 🌧️☔️

Penguinsa · 09/11/2024 21:45

Been lovely having DD home today and had a lovely first Christmas meal with a large chicken as can't get turkey here yet (Quorn version for veggie DD), pigs in blankets, cranberry sauce, stuffing, Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes, cheese cauliflower and broccoli gratin, broccoli, chanteney carrots and gravy. Followed by Christmas pudding from the bakers with double cream. Had prosecco. Also had mince pies and brownies from the bakers. There have been fireworks tonight as the village display is on and we can see from our window. Lovely day.

Tomorrow DD is here, her boyfriend is also home from his university for the weekend so they may meet up or we may see Paddington in Peru together at the cinema and she will probably go back late tomorrow. She has a role now as Student Ambassador for the university which is paid.

Impressive cooking for 60 Sprouts

Hope you had a lovely dinner Math

Floof and his stocking.

What a great day and meal, Penguinsa! 😄😋
Sitting here on the couch with Havoc watching Happy Feet; snacking on naan and spinach dip; and baby is toddling around and babbling happily.
I'm thinking on a crab pesto pizza for dinner...
Still haven't made it outside (or out of pj's).

Penguinsa · 09/11/2024 23:03

Thanks Havoc Love Happy feet, enjoy your dinner, sounds lovely.

sproutsandparsnips · 09/11/2024 23:24

@mathanxiety it's a canal - we have two close by. I can do a round walk up one and back on the other.
@Penguinsa I would like to go and see Paddington in Peru. Your day sounds lovely.
